Yes, great song, and that nice high singing that I love :D
|
It's also very difficult to play.
|
Ah, we come back to the amazing thing that is James' voice :D
We should do a cover.
Pity my voice tone's terrible. |
Anyone see james hit the f# in learning to live , 5 years in a livtetime DVD? It really defined him as my favourite singer, after Devin Townsend.
|
What actual line does he hit it in. I listen to it over and over but can't pick out where he hits it.
|
Its the Whoa-ooh-ooh, whoa-ooh-ooh, waah-aaaah-aaaaaaaaaaah bit.
|
Its the Whoa-ooh-ooh, whoa-ooh-ooh, waah-aaaah-aaaaaaaaaaah bit.
cool thanks.

No, the F# is this bit: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=406720767529398367&q=learning+to+live
I honestly can't remember that bit from the 5YIALT DVD so maybe you're on about a different note. EDIT: actually just remembered the bit you mean, yeah you're right, it doesn't do that on the studio version though. |
Pity my voice tone's terrible.
lol... I'm so far off being able to play anything even remotely Petrucci-like :p Edit: Just wondering, why don't Petrucci and LaBrie do a sort of duel solo, where LaBrie starts it off (With his voice), and Petrucci finishes it? Watching that video, he seems to have enough control... (Something in the vein of Megadeth's Back in the Day, but of course, better :p) |
I can hit that note
I'm extremely jealous of you. It sucks being a bass and trying to sing along to Dream Theater songs. |

Or just a long Labrie vocal solo.
I'm extremely jealous of you. Sorry, I'm late guys. I was on vacation. But here's the set list from the March 10th show in Los Angeles. IT WAS THE GREATEST SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN. :)
1. The Root of All Evil 2. Another Won 3. A Fortune In Lies 4. Take the Time 5. The Mirror 6. Lie 7. Raise the Knife 8. Strange Deja Vu 9. About to Crash (Reprise) 10. Losing Time ~Intermission~ 11. As I Am 12. These Walls 13. I Walk Beside You 14. Sacrificed Sons 15. Octavarium ~Encore~ 16. Sheep 17. Wait for Sleep 18. Learning to Live I will post my review in the next post. |
**** YEAH!! goin to see Dream Theater tonight!!1! goin with about 7 other friends from my school and its gonna kick *** cant wait!!!
|
1. The Root of All Evil: The opening of the concert started on a weak note. I like this song, but James singing was poor. Meh. 6/10
2. Another Won: This song was okay, but I never really liked the really old stuff. Petrucci was great though. 6/10 3. A Fortune In Lies: James started to pick up the pace on this song. The intro was awesome to this song. Portnoy is a great showman. 8/10 4. Take the Time: This was JAW-DROPPING. James hit all the high notes perfectly. Petrucci's outro solo was spot-on. The place went nuts. 10/10 5. The Mirror: I've really been getting into 'Awake' lately, and this is one of my favorite songs. Everyone was headbanging to this riff. 10/10 6. Lie: I was suprised at how well the crowd reacted to 'Awake.' Everyone plays great on this one. Not as good as "The Mirror" though. 9/10 7. Raise the Knife: Now, I've never heard of this song before. But it was pretty good. Why isn't on 'Falling Into Infinity?' 8/10 8. Strange Deja Vu: Now we're talking. This song kicked major ***. I wished I could seen more songs from SFAM. But I love this song. 10/10 9. About to Crash (Reprise): The place went nuts when John cranked out the riff. It's a cool song and all...but, not yet worthy of a 10. 9/10 10. Losing Time: Meh, I never really cared for this song to much. Same with that whole album really. But props to James. That man can sing. 6/10 More in next post... |
11. As I Am: A great way to open to the concert after intermission. Like SFAM I wish they would've played more songs from this album. 10/10
12. These Walls: James did a fantastic job singing this song. Whole band did great on this song. I love Rudess's intro. 9/10 13. I Walk Beside You: Let me just say, that this song is gay. It reminds me of U2. Would've much rather perferred "Panic Attack" or "Never Enough." 4/10 14. Sacrificed Sons: I don't care what everyone says this song is awesome. Myung and Petrucci were insane. Very emotional. 10/10 15. Octavarium: Wow. Just...wow. Everyone is top-notch on this song. Great animation too. Very, very, cool. 10/10 16. Sheep: I went crazy when they started playing this song. Long live Pink Floyd! Myung's bassline was tight. Yay for covers. 10/10 17. Wait for Sleep: Rudess and James together were great. What a combo. Once again, the place went crazy. 10/10 18. Learning to Live: I couldn't hear myself. The crowd was just so loud! "Learning to Live" was awesome. 10/10 Well, that's all. Any questions or comments? |

Check out the songs on here:
http://pipoelo.free.fr/music.html Those who've seen DT on this tour will recognise them from the intermission. |

http://pipoelo.free.fr/music.html Those who've seen DT on this tour will recognise them from the intermission.
Are they the Acoustic ones? I didn't hear the singing in them but I thought the acoustic version of erotomania was awesome. |
Mmm..acoustic.
|
They're pretty awesome. I thought it was just John jamming on an acoustic when I heard it at the Astoria.
|
But you'd expect that...that's just the way the man is... he's supposed to be taking a break, and he's playing the guitar
|
so the concert last night was friggen awesome, very loud and energetic. I got 7th row so we were VERY close to the stage.. here are some (albeit crappy) pics from my phone

John has a beard? WTF?
|
Man, I can't wait, ten more days 'till Dream Theater. All those setlists look awsome, but I hope they don't play as much Octavarium stuff. Having The Mirror and Lie together seems like it would be awsome.
|
Eh, you're gonna get a lot of Octavarium stuff.
It is the Octavarium tour after all. |
