You should definitely pick up Spiritual Healing. I really like Individual Thought Patterns as well.

Angmar 08-29-2007 11:37 PM

Spiritual Healing is kinda meh for me. ITP and Human are both extraordinary albums though.

LifeInABox 08-29-2007 11:41 PM

Soooo... Anyone like Gorguts?

Nostalgia 08-29-2007 11:49 PM

The Erosion of Sanity.

LifeInABox 08-29-2007 11:51 PM

I have Considered Dead, and it's good. I dunno if I care about any of their other stuff.

Angmar 08-29-2007 11:58 PM

Obscura is meh for me. I have yet to listen to anything else. But I know their other stuff is suppose to be different/good.

LifeInABox 08-30-2007 12:05 AM

I like CD, as I said :)

myron 08-30-2007 05:07 AM

here are the bands i like:

Gorguts (first 3 albums, 4th was a letdown)
cryptopsy (first album, and slit your guts/phobophile)
mithras (worlds... album)
necrophagist (first album)

I also like the occasional morbid angel song. and i like Decapitated - winds of creation (the song)

Not bad for a jazz fan i say!

That and The Erosion of Sanity are the worthwhile ones.

publicastration 08-30-2007 08:03 AM

Obscura is awesome :(

Some of the first songs on it are uneven, but the later songs on the album are killer.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-30-2007 09:03 AM

I never liked Obscura, but I saw some instructional video feauring two of the members and they did a demonstration of a song and I though it was kinda okay, and I really liked what they had to say about things. It wasn't your usual Alexi Laiho clone bullshit like "okay now im playing an e minor arpeggio and im gonna sweep it real fast now im gonna play it at half speed k done"

In fact, come to think of it, it was more of an interview, or at least that's how they treated it.

pate 08-30-2007 09:30 AM

Yeah, that's a decent vid. I like seeing the bassist play those horrible sounding chords.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=dhpHYTZbTSs ?

Maybe not?

It sounds awful just the two of them playing it slow in that little box....but damn that riff is awesome on the album.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-30-2007 09:35 AM

Well nothing ever sounds good in those videos, but I warmed to it a little more when I heard the riff when it was isolated from the other instruments.

and it's better if you watch to longer ones on youtube with the interview.

LifeInABox 08-30-2007 09:40 AM

Steve is so amazing.
Spiritual Healing is kinda meh for me. ITP and Human are both extraordinary albums though.
every Death fan and their mom underestimates Spiritual Healing, which is actually tied for my favorite Death album with Human.
In fact, come to think of it, it was more of an interview, or at least that's how they treated it.
i hate that vid so much, they sound like they suck playing-wise. it was guitar.com right? cause opeth has a similar video demonstrating the drapery falls which is great, mikael akerfeldt was talking about the solo and he says something like "usually our solos arent shred, we're no Jeff Loomis" which i thought was funny.

Angmar 08-30-2007 11:06 AM

Meh, it is kinda like their transition album and it just sounds a bit awkward in some parts for me.

told ya :thumb: were my play counts on there when i sent? im sure most songs were upwards of 30, i really like that album

@stevo
yeah i know what you mean, i particularly love james' legato style solos all over the album + lyrics

It's hilarious how it looks and sounds like the bassist is banging on his guitar like it's a drum.

your username just keeps making me think of luc lemay for some odd reason.

publicastration 08-30-2007 11:35 AM

Well it was conceived before I'd even heard of Gorguts or was even into metal so it has nothing to do with him.

yeah i figured as much. ive been listening to reek of putrefaction lately and its about the only grindesque music i can get into. A.C. doesnt do anything for me, nor napalm death.

What about Nasum? Human 2.0 is killer. I agree I don't really care for Napalm Death either from what I've heard of them.

never got into nasum, i should try them out then, just the main grind bands i cant stand. bands like dying fetus need to stop making music, one of their lyrics was:
YOU ARE ****ING WORTHLESS I DONT GIVE A **** ABOUT YOU

publicastration 08-30-2007 12:41 PM

Destroy The Opposition is a good album though.

Another good Death/Grind act is Aborted.

rattlehead42147 08-30-2007 12:42 PM

well they sound better than most grind but i still didnt' exactly love what i heard.
is archaic abbatoir good?

publicastration 08-30-2007 12:45 PM

It's not bad, Goremageddon is much better though. Also the new one.

Yeah, that was a cool video.

Deth 08-30-2007 01:34 PM

I happen to like Obscura, as I have mentioned. I can't listen to it often, but when I'm in the mood, it hits the spot. It's the equivalent of someone like John Zorn for death metal.
