finally, people are gettin into FII :]
the only one that really bugs me is take away my pain and lines in the sand. it drags on forever.

peruvian skies is definitely something DT should play more often...the wah solo leading into the heavy riff is perfect for headbanging :]

nowitzki 12-09-2005 09:55 PM

FII is good at times, but lets face it, there are some awful songs on there. You Not Me is terrible.

DT played Peruvian Skies when I saw them, it was very cool

Lord of Sword 12-09-2005 10:11 PM

i really like 6 degrees, even though most fans hardly ever mention it. you can't really listen to the whole of the 2nd disc as one song too often, but individually they're all good songs (except solitary shell which i never really liked). plus disc one has disappear and blind faith, which has petrucci's 2nd best solo, after UAGM.

Darkness 12-09-2005 10:17 PM

I love the first disc in 6 degrees, but I can't stand listening to very much on the second, save the odd part. I don't know why... I think the lyrics may destroy it for me.

Awake still stands as my favorite DT album, but I haven't listened to these guys in a while...

Triangle 12-10-2005 07:13 AM
I personally love everything on Awake except for 6:00. It's OK but doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the album.
123.

Scarred ftw.

red barchetta 12-10-2005 07:15 AM

i only like Hell's Kitchen from FII.

What about Lines In The Sand!? One of my person DT favs. That = :thumb:

not to mention Trial of Tears, Peruvian Skies and Hollow Years!:thumb:

I love 6 degrees. I like the first disc more, but the second disc is great also.

ghettoeddo 12-10-2005 11:10 AM

hollow years is kinda...anticlimactic to me. good song and all the girls i've introduced it to love it to death, but there doesn't seem to be a high point in the song. it's just kinda flat all the way through.

in that sense, i much prefer songs like goodnight kiss, answer lies within, space-dye vest, anna lee, another day for their ballad-y stuff.

you not me isn't that bad is it? i think lines in the sand is more unbearable. far too long for something that isn't that interesting.

temporary 12-10-2005 11:52 AM
I'm yet to get into it.
Same as most of 6DOIT
I'm still concerned at the amount of filler on Awake.
the first three songs, space dye vest and a mind beside it'self are brilliant.
but the rest haven't got to me yet.
Thats pretty much how I feel about it. Those songs are some of the bands finest, though. I've decided I must get Live at Budoken, after listening to the track samples on iTunes.

CD or DVD? You'll be happy either way.

I'll probably buy the DVD with christmas money I always get from my relatives, considering I'm already asking for the DVDs of George Harrison's Concert For Bangladesh and Pink Floyd's Pulse for christmas.

The DVD is amazing. The production is great and the cameras seem to be in the right spot at the right moment.

Lord Abortion 12-10-2005 12:30 PM

I'm getting twice in a lifetime and LATB on DVD for Christmas...Huzzah!

Falling Into Infinity, as I said, is an awsome album. Favourite song now is Take Away My Pain, I absolutley love the chorus. Other faves are Trial of Tears...(sounds much better than on Budokan, recorded), Hollow Years, Peruvian Skies, Hell's Kitchen, Burning My Soul and New Millenium. Basically the whole album except You Not Me, Just Let Breath, Lines in The Sand and Anna Lee...I just find them not that interesting.

Six Degrees, I enjoy the second disc more, I love listening to the whole of 6DOIT the song. Overture sounds really cool with the orchestra and what not. Would be cool to see DT do some shows with an orchestra. TGP is my fave song off Disc 1.

I like Just Let Me Breath.

Thats what I've heard, it sounds really good.

So, as to FII, I find most of it horribly cheesy, unispired, and the fault of a greedy record company. Lines in the Sand has an awesome solo, though, and Hell's Kitchen is a great instrumental. Unfortunetly Burning My Soul is one of the cheesiest metal songs I've ever heard. Take Away My Pain is just...bad. Peruvian Skies isn't all that bad, either.

Lord Abortion 12-10-2005 12:55 PM

I prefer the first disc of 6DOIT...
Misunderstood is one of my favourite DT songs.

its alright. i can listen to all the songs on FII, but i dont really find many of them that interesting.

this might surprise people, but TGP is actually my least favourite song off SDOIT. its a good song, but the rest of SDOIT is phenomenal, especially The Great Debate and Blind Faith

scenesfromatheater 12-10-2005 02:17 PM

 What a terrible suprise!!!

Triangle 12-10-2005 02:19 PM

About To Crash (both) wins.

scenesfromatheater 12-10-2005 02:21 PM

NP: Losing Time - Grand Finale.........What an album.

ghettoeddo 12-11-2005 10:14 PM

goodnight kiss segue into solitary shell is my favorite off of 2nd CD of 6DOIT.

i love the lion king-sounding thing in the intro to solitary shell :]

nowitzki 12-12-2005 03:24 AM

Yeah that keyboard sounds really cheesy, but really cool.

Jev 12-12-2005 03:26 AM

I used to hate keyboards in rock but thanks to DT I love 'em.

scenesfromatheater 12-12-2005 05:30 AM

JR > KM > DS

Ah? Ah?

Jev 12-12-2005 05:32 AM

I like Kev's stuff more.

scenesfromatheater 12-12-2005 05:39 AM

Hmmmm.... My 2 favourite DT albums are the ones with Kevin on, but I just find Rudess's keyboard playing more interesting live. Derick's keyboards are pretty cool on stuff like Lines In the Sand, but nothing compaired to the other two lads.

Lord Abortion 12-12-2005 08:30 AM

Yeah, it's an interesting mix of Keyboard styles I listen to, because DT use them in the superb style they do, then there's the orchestral Black metal style I love, and the frantic, lightning fast Power metal style.
