It's almost here boys and girls. Roughly 24 hours till showtime.

Speaking of the time, does anyone know what time they are scheduled to take the stage?

all pink floyd fans must read this, i am quoteing this from the Dub Side of the Moon, which is the dark side but reggae artists redid their songs but anyway you must read this, its the deepest **** ive ever heard:

While each of the four Pink Floyd albums between 1973 and 1979 transformed huge themes into rousing studio experiments, Dark Side of the Moon stands as the most resonant- most likely because the record examines the human condition as skillfully as any anthropologist could. Starting and ending with a heartbeat symbolizes life, the narrative moves on the path from birth ["Breathe"] to death ["The Great Gig in the Sky"] and eventual spritual resolution ["Eclipse"] all while exploring the basic forces that shape mankind: time or lack thereof ["time"], movement ["on the run"], possessions ["money"], conflict ["us and them"] and madness ["brain damage"].

ATM 07-01-2005 09:03 AM

Where from the album did that come from? The booklet?

I agree, but I think that Great Gig In The Sky is more of a fear of death, which leads to the hoarding of money, the seperation from society, and the inevitable descent into madness. Another thing to support this is it follows Time, which suggests the man has just realised how short his life really is, and begins to have morbid thoughts.

It could also be said that Breathe => GGitS was Life => Death, and that Money => Eclipse was about the things that happened inbetween. I don't think that's what the article meant, although I could be wrong.

I suppose, I guess I am more inclined to believe the linear story telling that Waters favours, such as The Wall. (Although the flashbacks come thick and fast at times).

i dont think that the great gig in the sky is fear of death because it would be more eerie and trippy like brain damage and the laughing, its creepy but it has grown on me, i love it

Either explanation works, really, but it's just up whoever is listening to choose what interpretation they which to believe.

Well, Goodbye Blue Sky is about an apocalypse of the mind, yet it is probably one of Floyd's most beautiful songs. The guys liked to juxtapose disturbing thoughts with flowing, picturesque music, obviously for some artistic reason. :)

ATM 07-01-2005 09:27 AM

I love playing Goodbye Blue Sky on my acoustic.

yea but wouldnt that mean that they arent afraid of death because then they would be saying that death is beautiful and anyone who smokes as much as they did its virually impossible to think death is a good thing
Just merged a thread into this one, at Riva's request. The thread merged was this post;

Hope it doesn't cause too much confusion.
I was very confused. All these guys started coming in and bitching. Thankfully its over.

Does anybody know if I can catch the broadcast here where I live? I think its going to be on the radio, but I'd obviously rather watch in on tv.

MalcolmYoungRock 07-01-2005 10:06 AM

Yeah, same question bus has.

Is it on TV?

If so,what channel?

robo2448 07-01-2005 10:10 AM

I won't be able to see it :upset:. I'm going to Fire Island tomorrow- an island off the coast of NY. My cousins summer house there doesn't have a tv or radio that I would be able to use :upset:

I hope it is replayed.

I have it at home, but i'm at my cottage right now.

I'll give the link on Monday when I get back.

moaner 07-01-2005 11:09 AM

I'd say that GGitS was about fear of dying- because in Brain damage, when the reasons for his amdness are explained, he says

"If your head explodes, with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark sid eof the moon"

If you think about how you're going to die, and really truly think about the consequences, you won't be able to cope, you'll go mad.

TerryThorne 07-01-2005 11:44 AM

And GGitS has the whisper "if you hear this whisper then you are dying". Also I think the fact that their is just vocalizing in the song represents that words can't describe the fear of dying.

ATM 07-01-2005 12:05 PM

I believe it's going to be shown on MTV.

Hey, that's kind of what I said a few pages back:
A little late but... better than never, huh?

For me DSOTM is a concept album about... life. What is the first thing and last thing that appears through the speakers? A heartbeat. At the beginning it stands for birth and at the end for death. And it all goes around it. Who of us here doesn't want money and would go to the extreme to get it? Who here fears, and ironically, want more time to spare? Who hasn't thought that you might go insane? Who feels he has been manipulated?

You can even see something about religion on Breathe (Reprise) "Far away across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithfull to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic words."

It all deals with everything that involves being alive, express clearly on Eclipse with mentioning actions we all do.

In conclusion DSOTM is how Roger Waters perceives life.

... And does anyone know at what time will Pink Floyd be on stage? MTV and other MTV related networks are going to broadcast the show live... I just want to know when to tune in.
=D

WRONG

Having listened to that sample many times, it is definately "I never said i was frightened of dieing", in response, obviously, to the question "why are you frightened of dieing?!

That is so open to debate that I don't think it should ever be used as a point. Both phrases sound the same, and she's barley audible at my speakers highest settings.
floyd is da shi t especally learning to fly
Speak in English. And Learning to Fly is a great song :thumb:

And they are playing tomorrow.

And she definitely says "I never said I was afraid of dying" I've carefully listened to that section many times and I am 100% sure that is what she says.

UrbanVermin 07-01-2005 07:43 PM

Do you think flody would have been better if Syd Berette would of stayed in the band?
