Don't jinx it!! Yes, 'twas more vocal based. I want bitchin' riffs (which there were, just not enough).
|
Yeah, it was definately more vocal. The guitars just sucked in comparison to their old stuff, still good but just not in comparison. Could this be a sign of a new Opeth sound?
It would be really cool is Mikael did some solo singer/songwriter acoustic thing for a side project. That way he oculd get all his kick *** vocal based music out at the same time of keeping Opeth heavy and based more on music. I would love to hear solo Mikael stuff. |
Yeah, I found Damnation to be like that to, but I still love the music on that album. I also think Lopez kinda slacked on this cd, but that could just be because he's sick, so I'll cut him some slack, but as for Mike and Peter.. damn them!
|
They'll never top the riffs on Morningrise. Ever.
|
I think the best Opeth riff is the Face Of Melinda electric one. :p
Edit: WTF!! as soon as I hit post that song came on my random playlist!! thats been happening all week! |
Poor Lopez. :upset:
Does anyone know what is wrong with him yet? |
Yeah some blood dieases hes had all his life or something..
|
Yeah some blood dieases hes had all his life or something..
Yeah, that is all I've heard. I don't check the main site or any boards often so I don't ever learn new thing unless someone tells me in here. I was just wondering if there were any developements(sp?). Does anyone else love the song 'By the Pain I see In Others' as much as I do? I love the effects on the vocals, and the jewish harp! |
I really like that song to, I really love the Deliverance album, I find it underrated lots of the time. I try not to listen to it that much so I don't kill it though.... happened to Still Life... :(
|
I go through phases with Opeth albums. My favorite seems to change almost every week.
|
Dude, same here... I hate when people ask my favorite album... I'll be like "Deilverance...*then I'll feel guilty* no wait, Blackwater Park *guilt comes in*, Nah My Arms, Your Hearse..." etc.
|
Haha, I wouldn't want the other albums to get jealous.
|
Exactly.

I love that riff. /creams pants |
Less than 2 months till Opeth!
And I just ordered a Still Life shirt, so I'm happy. |
Don't these loseres come back to Edmonton... I can't believe Mike lied to us... :upset:
|
i got Ghost Reveries yesterday, i've been listening to it nonstop, but i cant really get into it... i know with most songs after listeng quite a bit, it grows on you.. please tell me it will
|
It hasn't on me yet, its good, but not mind blowing like some have said.
|
Not mind blowing but it takes ahwile to grow on you. Then again, most Opeth needs to grow on you before you appreciate it.
|
I just find most of the songs lack a really good climax...
|
I absolutely loved it the first time I listened to it.
The opposite thing happened with me and MAYH, the first couple of times I listened to it I thought it was just Meh, but now I love it. |
Strangely, GR hit me right away, whereas their other albums took 1-2 years to grow on me.
|
I guess GR is just more accessible. I think it was meant to be though,
|
The new album is sooooo good. I'm getting through my first listen as we speak, Reverie/Harlequin Forest being my favorite at the moment...
That acoustic part...just wow... |
darkness of greed hit the nail on the head. theres no epic finishes.
still growing on me slowly. Reverie/Harlequin forest just comes across as weird. It's almost flat sounding... in fact a lot of the heavy moments seem flat in production. Anyone? About 9.15 into Ghost Of Perdition is genius however. And Hours Of Wealth has signalled a new road for Opeth in terms of 'softer' songs. |
There are a lot of bands that I think could benefit from making their music at least a tad bit more "mainstream."
Not mainstream in a "this is gonna make us so much money" sense but just in terms of making things more melodic and catchy. I dunno, I'm in love with Ghost Reveries right now and I haven't always felt like such a fan of Opeth until hearing this album, and maybe I just got a bad start with Opeth(I am trying to get more music of theirs lately and give them more of a fair chance than I gave them before) but it seems there are bands that have so much potential but try so hard to go against the grain that it becomes hard to listen to. GR to me seems to have eased up and seems a lot more softer and catchier, and it sounds really great to me. |
Imagine if Mike and Peter became shredders...
That'd suck. Actually, a real topic would be... Do you guys think Opeth is becoming more vocal based then music now? I think they slacked off on the new album with the music, but the vocals/lyrics are at their best.
I don't really think Opeth is becoming more vocalbased, they went through that phase already IMO. think BWP, D&D, Steven Wilson made Opeth vocal orientated, lyrical wise Mikeal has always been great. does anyone else besides me adore Mikeal's vocals on The Human Equation? /drools I wish I was blessed with vocal chords like that, not to mention his guitarskills |
The Human Equation
Is this some side project band? |
the human equation is a double cd by a dutch composer.
he works with guest performances alot on the latest album a crapload of singers sang: Mikeal Akerfeldt, James Labrie of DT |
I love Akerfeldt's improvisation at the end of the last track. ;)
