I dont like the Line 6 amps, its not possible to put in unique tones, which I rely on to get Tool sounding tones.
I should really be thinking like you clearvision (no way to shorthand your usertitle dammit). Just an amp with one clean tone would do me. |
For the most part, I'd say me, because I am almost always a little off, thanks to backing track differences / me not starting right with the music...
You were spot on for a few. The others, you're a bit quick, which helps. Sometime I feel slowed down with Tool's tracks, even though they are the original precedent. |
Girlfriends that fund guitar equipment? I gotta get myself one of them!
Erm when i was looking at a new amp a while back i was looking at a spider 212 (line 6) or a Laney tube amp. I was gonna have to try e out of course, but never got round to it, realising i have no band and don't play live, so there is no need for an amp.
nah she gave me crap when i got my new schecter last week. I foot all my bills 100%. Im just a good deal finder that will never pay retail. I mean i got a brand new LP classic for 1200. The list at 1850 |

i totally kewl with that. I expected as much, i just wanted to hear it straight from the man |

Thanks, I try to nail my Tool as closely as possible  |
Meh I don't really know much baout gear. When i become better i suppose i will start wanting better equipment, but i can get what i want out of my setup now really. OF course i do want guitars pedals and amps but I'm not fussed.
How old are you Kurrpt? |

If you still are doing a mx cover deal, i play guitar (as you all know) the one song i wanted to play live i couldn't, so if i could send ya eulogy, maybe you could use it.
sorry reading post from 3-4 pages back. |
You are welcome to input...
You can play along to JoZ's tracks, or mebbe wait till Ken has some input into the whole shizz... Upload what ya got to yousendit :) http://www.yousendit.com |
On the cover issue, I can do the vocals, as well as the guitars but it seems that I've already been beat to the chase on that. Vocals may not sound exactly like Maynard or anything like that, but they should be decent.
|
Someone better upload soemthing other than bass soon, i've had Adobe Audition for a week now and im itching to get good with it. And I cant have that much fun with what i've got
|

dude, if you're singing TOoL, you cant have a half arsed attitude. If you gonna do it, do it to death |

Good half time talk. Now send him back out there and lets win this game! |
I guess you earn a fair bit. Or have kind supportive parents/girlfriend(s).
Im going scouting for a new amp this saturday, so I can see what saving target im aiming at (n00b request of 'what amp should I get' input here)
As for amp input, I'd recommend that if you want a tube amp, buy a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier head, and then use your current amp or some crappy cabinet (you can get one pretty cheap) and load it with Vintage 30 speakers, which shouldn't cost any more than $50-100 apiece. Then buy a Tubescreamer (or for a cheaper alternative a Boss DS-1) and get it Mod'd and you'll have a pretty sweet set-up for a relatively low cost. EDIT: Come to think of it, if you get hte Boogie head, you won't even need the Tubescreamer or the DS-1. Nothing beats Boogie distortion. /brain lapse If you don't get a Boogie, I recommend the pedals, though. |
The mesa boogies have always interested me. They look as sweet as they sound.
Just need to start looking this side of the pond for deals as good as you get in the US |
the mark Iv is better and way more versatile. they are harder to get for that reason. Anyone says they are cheap are deff getting it used, which is what i wanna do.
Mark IV all the way man. Look at reviews, you'll see. The mark can do the recto sound, plus a billion others. Its weird getting used to the EQ, since its so different than ANY other. well worth the energy. I was gonna get one for like 1200 american. Ive seen the combos go for like 700 |
Regardless of what Boogie amp you get, if you're not going to utilize its warm distortion there's no reason to even bother. Between the Mark IV and the Rectos, I don't know which I like better, but you can get some good deals on a Dual Recto. Don't even think about buying the standard package with the cab, just get some lame cab and as long as you have it with Vintage 30s, you're good to go.

Meh I was attempting to record aenima, but i need to print out the tab...and try and get my tone not sucking too badly
I would do it tonight, but i have a bio test tomorrow and i need to read hitchikers guide to the galaxy before I see the film...you may get it tomorrow if i finish the book... |
I'm thinking about recording Stinkfist with vocals. It may happen today or it may not. I'd like to get some real drums on the backing track first, though.
|
Looking at Mesa prices in the UK is upsetting. A 30 watt one costs £900. And the heads you recommended....ow.
Clearvision, stay up all night and read that book. Then dont spoil the movie for me, itll be monday I get to see it. |

As long as you put Vintage30s in the cabinet and buy a Tubescreamer or a DS-1 (or any other distortion pedal that fits your taste), you'd have a decent rig. |
2 words ROAD KING
|
Yeah, like that'll be any less expensive.
|
 i started reading this crappy version we have, it's like a book of the film. But then someone said it might not have all the parts that should be there so i sent mum in search of a proper verison. 'Cause i wanna be the person that sits in the cinema and shouts 'they missed this bit!' yeah . Whoever im with is gonna have to put up with that.
I found the other two books in the trilogy in the loft. Result. Just gotta get round to reading them all... I don't know if I'll definateley go saturday, but i should go at some point this weekend. I't better be good, 'cause i may be up fro a while tomorrow reading it... |

This has been catching my eye recently http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=271 Im searching the UK sites I use for Vintage 30s, yet no finds  |

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=271 Im searching the UK sites I use for Vintage 30s, yet no finds
Marshalls are good, although their quality has declined. It's my opinion that they are inferior to Boogie in every way, but if you don't plan on using a clean tone very much, then Marshalls usually will be just fine. Now, if I'm not mistaken, that is the one that is not a true tube amp, but instead has a tube pre-amp? It all depends on what your preferences are, really. If you combined that with a cheap cab that had Vintage 30s (which should be relatively easy to find, although I have no idea about that in the UK  ) and a really good distortion pedal, then that would be a good setup. It would be really good if you could buy a rack multi-effects unit (can't remember the name, but they go for about $2800 US, so...). |
Jesus, I just looked at some of the Boogie stuff on that site, and compared to that, the Marshalls are dirt cheap. If you're trying to conserve money, then what you're looking at would be a pretty nice alternative, I'd say.
|
Gah, I get so confused when around amps. I alwaays set out saying 'I just need clean, I can get distortion from pedals', then I find 1000s of amps I like that are crap for clean.
Marshalls or Line 6 are the two amps that are always in my music stores. Then the mesas will be in the back, with the extra zeros on the price tags. |

When I played on Marhsalls, it was the combos that sounded like crap on clean. The sound was flat and uncharacteristic, and very thin-feeling...no warmth at all. However, on the half-stacks, there was a significantly bigger sound which was nice. I don't recommend getting a half-stack, though. Get the head, but then use a nice cheap cabinet like I've already said. Wattage isn't a big deal either. I'd say as long as you're over 50 watts, that's all you'll ever need. A really good Mod'd distortion pedal will also take you far with a Marshall. |
Check out the Marshall AVT's AJIG...
I don't know what is so sucky about your MGDFX... My amp is a 10 watt aria thingy, it cost as much as it's wattage... |

I don't know what is so sucky about your MGDFX... My amp is a 10 watt aria thingy, it cost as much as it's wattage...
Problems with my MG 1) The clean is ugly. Lifeless, too bassy even when i fiddle with the settings 2) It has too many techincal problems. The distortion cuts out randomly after 4 months of owning it. 3) The built in effects are basic, and have no pedal to activate them 4) The clean volume is 1/8 of the overdrive volume. meaning cutting in to each sound is not smooth at all. 5) The overdrive sounds horrible and is inconsistent with its settings. (i had two different tones from the same pre set once) 6) It gave me an electric shock once. Though that might be the plugs fault http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=268 This one sounds beautiful. |
Yup, if you try it, and it satisfies all of your problems just go for it really (providing you are wealthy like Kurrpt)
/Jelous :p |
Yeah your guys' setups still own mine, no matter what you say... I got:
A b.c rich guitar (can't find what its called on the site, and it was a gift and I acutually really like it, its not all spiky and stuff like there other ones its got a strat shaped body and has a cool sound), an RP100 multi effects pedal, which I don't use and plan on selling soon and buying either a delay pedal or a wah. And I just use the amps distortion channel with my footswitch... |
What amp?
|
Oh forgot to say lol, its a Peavey Studio Pro 112. 65 Watts.
|
I have a kinda ****e setup myself I have a epiphone gibson sg (only good thing) mg100dfx amp and a boss me-50.
|
Mine is still the worst :p
It's not a BC-Rich Bi!ch is it? They are cool... |
