Good on you. They've been my favourite for a while now, as most of the regulars will know. :p

Wyko 07-08-2007 01:41 AM

Does anyone have a torrent/stream/whatever of Roger Waters playing at Live Earth :)?

Danger Bird 07-08-2007 01:44 AM

Don't worry, it wasn't that good.

JohnXDoesn't 07-08-2007 01:10 PM

See, thats why I'm not so sure I'd enjoy Roger's live show.

After watching The Wall: Live at Berlin it turned me off a little.

Dude I'm telling you if he plays live anywhere near you, don't miss it. I'll say it again, best concert/show I've ever seen.

Bah, a huge stadium show could never be as cool as a small intimate one with an energetic band. I'm sure it would be a fun experience though since it's a big production and everyone is stoned.

last_few_bricks 07-09-2007 01:32 PM

doesn't matter if it's a huge show and youre miles away from the stage, you're still there, it was my first concert, and I've heard from a lot of people that it is one of the best that they've seen, and they were the ones that went and saw all of the great bands in the late 70's and early 80's

Riva 07-09-2007 02:21 PM

The problem is you can't expect small intimate shows with big name bands, and when you get down to it, a lot of people are just thrilled to be there anyway, despite the fact that the stage is a small square on the horizon and the performers look like ants.

Danger Bird 07-09-2007 02:25 PM

Yeah, I'm sure it's fun and everything but as somebody who's been to both kinds of shows I really don't think an arena show can compare with the energy of a small club.

Riva 07-09-2007 02:26 PM

Well, I suppose it depends on the band playing and the atmosphere of the small venue. I've seen some horrid bands in crowded, smoky pubs.

JohnXDoesn't 07-09-2007 03:47 PM

i find large shows to sometimes be as intimate as small. biggest thing is sound and volume at a large gig. if those things are right and the band is tight its still the music that matters most

MattSharpIsCool 07-09-2007 06:43 PM

I saw Tom Petty at a pretty big outdoor amphitheater and I thought it rocked. As long as the techs do a good job with sound, and the band sounds good, large venues are fine, like JXD said.

last_few_bricks 07-10-2007 08:58 AM

^pretty much summed up everything I thought

FriendofTheDevil70 07-10-2007 10:18 AM

Does anyone think the Final Cut is really THAT bad? I was taking a listen for the first time in ages the other day and actually found myself enjoying it. I mean, of course its a Waters ego trip and all that, but theres some really great songs on there.

last_few_bricks 07-10-2007 11:07 AM

you know I was just going to ask that question, it sounded like a good idea on paper, but it just didn't have the Pink Floyd sound to it. It was less of the sound that they had with all of the great guitar tones, the key tones, and they just almost lost the guitar, and changed the key noises from an organ type sound to a piano. It just didn't work with what they had already done, and the fans wanted another album like the other ones, not something completely different. correct me if I am wrong

Zebra 07-10-2007 11:16 AM

The Final Cut is terrible music. Most of the songs sound like crappy outtakes from The Wall.

last_few_bricks 07-10-2007 11:19 AM

I still listen to it once in a grand while when I have nothing better to do, but it still doesnt hold anything near any of the other albums that they did

Leper 07-10-2007 11:56 AM

Roger Waters, even in a large arena, shares a great deal of intimacy with the audience. The sound was FANTASTIC and the special effects and stage set-up were something that can't possibly be matched by a small club. I'm a perfect example of someone who "just wanted to be there." I sat in the upper-deck and it was still the best show I've ever seen.

I like the Final Cut, but it just doesn't even compare in album quality to earlier Pink Floyd.

Riva 07-10-2007 04:28 PM

The Final Cut really is like The Wall Pt II, but I don't mind it at all. Not my favourite album, since you can barely tell it's a Pink Floyd album, rather than a Roger Waters solo album, but yeah.

MattSharpIsCool 07-10-2007 06:10 PM

Ya, it's definitely not my favorite album, but it's not so bad.

Riva 07-10-2007 08:31 PM

I think it's the controversy behind the album that puts a lot of people off rather than the actual music content itself.

Yeah how great are his shows, did you get that extra video bit for on the run? That was fantastic.

the final cut is prolly my second fave floyd album. maybe even my first.

Riva 07-11-2007 12:21 AM

Not saying it's bad. It's not my least favourite, let's put it that way.

MrConeman 07-11-2007 07:45 AM

The Final Cut actually is out takes from The Wall. There's a bit where the lyrics are supposed to read "I'll show you whats behind the Wall." but it's covered up with a gunshot noise effect.

I read somewhere that it was originally going to be named Spare Bricks.
I really like the album though, theres just something to it, I love Rogers voice on it, and Two Suns in The Sunset is one of my favourite lyrics songs of all time.

EDIT: Yeah, listening now, it's in the title song.
"...and if ya make it past the shotguns in the hall, dial the combonation, open the priest hole, and if I'm in, I'll tell ya..." *gun shot*. It was originally "I'll tell ya whats behind the wall."

yeah that part was really cool, but my favourite was the pictures and vids of syd during Shine on. But you can't forget the moon during intermission. That was cool
