I'm not talking about words like "dey", because that is a pronunciation. But when I hear things like "dey is"... well thats a bit different. Is "dey are" really that hard?
where are the made-up words in those two phrases

last-time i checked "is" and "are" are two well-established words in the english language

"is" and "are" take up the same number of syllables - vowel followed by a consonant - and actually you could argue that "are" is easier to say, as the "r" in english is pretty easy to make

so it's more or less a grammatical issue, that in this instance ebonics doesn't inflect verbs for person

Angmar 02-08-2010 12:09 AM
i dont mean finding my inner self so much as how Hallucinogen's "LSD" put it
yeah i had that in mind.

Think of it this way. We all know that everybody, for example, has a different taste in music and that this most likely has to do with each persons particular set of chemicals and neurotransmitters working in their brain. However, after doing something like acid, it becomes much more real and apparent how vast of an effect a measly 100 MICROgrams of some chemical in the brain can have. From that point, it becomes more apparent how different each person's perspective must really be since their particular brain chemistry is far more different from yours than a few micrograms of lsd.

You begin to realize that if your consciousness just happened to be put in someone else's brain for a day, you probably wouldn't be able to function at all given how far you would be from being used to their perspective.

Yes, this is all something that is basic knowledge even through sober thought... but once you're torn out of the norm and shown it firsthand it becomes much more real and things like this take a much higher priority in your mind leading to a heightened sense of empathy.

In that sort of aspect, yes, psychoactives can teach you a fair few things about life. But no, it's not exactly like while you're on acid a whole other world and set of knowledge is instantly bestowed upon you.

IDK, bunch of babbling and you probably don't understand quite what I'm getting at but it makes sense to me

"******" originated as a racial slur for black people

any further use of it is just an application of that original racist use

I was using "making up words" as kind of an umbrella term for say stupid sound ****. Sorry if that doesn't translate well on the internet.

Anyways can you seriously not spot something wrong with a phrase like: Look at them Saint's fans. They sure is excited that they team won the Super Bowl.

have a nice day

Angmar 02-08-2010 12:15 AM

Paul pooping in your pants completely goes against the western ideology that defecation is meant to take place in the bathroom and that feces are meant to be deposited into the toilet. You pooping in your pants is a violation of this principle and should not be tolerated.

AA-12 02-08-2010 12:15 AM

i pooped myself recently

no shame in that

Tyler 02-08-2010 12:16 AM

there's at least a little shame in pooping yourself

I know what it originated as, but words do take on different meanings as time goes on. Not that I use the word or agree with the sentiment but people do use it as a term for people who act ghetto, white or black.

Moon Flavor 02-08-2010 12:17 AM
"******" originated as a racial slur for black people

nonsense

if i want it to refer to a white person then it means a white person

that phrase is ungrammatical in standard american english just like "he practices the piano" is ungrammatical in british english

its just that the differences between british english and standard american english are much closer

and ebonics isn't used officially anywhere so it lacks respect
