But you're not as smart as me...especially when it comes to English :)
Heh, fair point, though if you mean in song writing, I think our styles are too different to compare on how smart we are... lol.

Now we're getting into Dialects? Which American Dialect? Southern? Northern? Alaskan? Hawaiian? Native American?

In song writing I pwn most professional insofar as vocab goes :)

But that should be indicative of how well I know the language.

Blowed is in fact a word. It's considered poor grammar though, and is most commonly replaced by 'blew'.

How do you mean?
How do you mean?
Vocabulary is entirely memorization of words, it has nothing to do with how smart you are, it's just knowledge of the language.

Right, but song writing and prose, which I have in S&L, are application of that knowledge. I know how to use the words I know effectively too. My vocabulary isn't as big as people think, I just utilize what I do know effectively.

EDIT: When I said I know the language I meant it like that, not that I know a lot of words.

123, I just got owned.

I use what words help portray what I mean, sometimes it's very simplistic, sometimes I use "big words"

kux0 03-26-2005 01:10 AM

it is entirly to late for this

Simple words are rarely effective because in most cases the simplicity leads to an ambiguity that is undesireable. "Big words" in my experience describes more sophisticated words which are more specific and pertinent. For instance, run has 100 some meanings. Some are obviously similar, so why not use a word more to the point and coherent? The more you use that sort of diction the more lucid and effective you are as a writer.

yes, but what about stuff like:

The thought of a fact ran through my mind
A darkened plague upon the fate of mine

a small taste of a song I've been working on.

I would replace thought, ran, maybe mind, maybe fate.
Ex:
The supposition of a fact coarsed through my mind
A darkened plague upon the impending (doom) of mine

Hard to know for sure what you were going for so it was hard to know if that's what you were going for...but that proves my point :p

Not really, cause certain times, bluntness just fits the song

EG: "Constant paranoia surrounds me
Everyone that I see
Is out to get me,"
-Jon Davis

Pervasive paranoia suffocates me <-better line
If I changed the rest it would be completely, not just a few words :-/

i am the robots 03-26-2005 01:33 AM

I really prefer Davis' style, cause of the way it rhyms and such, it just goes with the tune better.

Trust me, download the song "Let's Get This Party Started," by Korn, everything in that song fits together seamlessly.

It has too many sylables

Constant(2) paranoia(3) surrounds(2) me(1)
Pervasive(3) paranoia(3) suffocates(3) me(1)

Download mewithoutyou, their lyrics fit the song perfectly. It's amazing. I like the way Korns mesh, but the thing is you can make the music fit the lyrics or vice-a-versa, but of course it fits best the way it's performed :)

i am the robots 03-26-2005 01:43 AM

Exactly what I was saying Zep.

I'll check out mewithoutyou tommorrow when I wake up, I'm gonna hit the sack (not a sexual inuendo), guten nacht all.
