Explain.

Chuggy metalcore riffing + breakdowns = metalcore no matter how many guitar solos and progressive influences they sprinkle on top.
Breakdowns don't equal metalcore and neither does 'chuggy metalcore riffing' (da fuk)

this came from wikipedia so it must be right: Metalcore is a fusion genre combining various elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. The name of it is a portmanteau of the names of the two genres. The term took on its current meaning in the mid-1990s, describing bands such as Earth Crisis, Deadguy and Integrity.[3] The earliest of these groups, Integrity, began performing in 1988; some modern practitioners of the genre include Killswitch Engage, Underoath, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying and The Devil Wears Prada.[4] Metalcore is distinguished from other punk metal fusions by its emphasis on breakdowns:[5] slower, intense passages conducive to moshing.

If breakdowns equal hardcore parts then suffocation are deathcore going by your logic.

Lol quoting from wikipedia too.

Spec 12-29-2010 12:44 PM

I almost saw them at a random garage show. Sadly they had begun their drive to the next venue and weren't there. I still saw Shai Hulud though, so it's all good.

alytee123 12-29-2010 12:48 PM

I think it's a fair assumption that PtH have some 'core' aspects, but they're not a Metalcore band.

2muchket! 12-29-2010 12:53 PM

I'd love to see Shai Hulud live. And I'd love to see Misery Signals again.

they used to play melodic hardcore

now they play power metal

sure one could imply metalcore by association

but nah

myexitUnfair 12-29-2010 02:06 PM

Power metal? Now we're just getting ridiculous.

HighandDriving 12-29-2010 02:15 PM

They do have some similarities to power metal. The lyrics are straight up power metal though.

MalleusMaleficarum 12-29-2010 02:43 PM

power pop metal core jazz fusion

2muchket! 12-29-2010 04:38 PM

2muchket! 12-29-2010 04:44 PM

MalleusMaleficarum 12-29-2010 04:45 PM

2muchket! 12-29-2010 04:48 PM

I've caught half of their set before (poor time keeping by my friends ffs) and they were pretty dec live.

Check out Bastions and Antares, they're on the same label as Kerouac, and you may as well check out Santa Karla another sweet uk band.
