Yea, I hate the guys that talk really loudly during Morning Bell though, and attempt to sing along.
True. I wish he'd played that both nights. One of those nights has the version of "True Love Waits" where the guy's like "OMG! THEY TOOOOTALLY NEVER PLAY THIS!", right? Or was that another show I have?

ATM 08-03-2005 07:04 PM

Heh, yea that's the one. I wish I had been there to beat those kids down for talking during the set.

JonM 08-03-2005 07:05 PM

That guy is probably a MXican, though.

ATM 08-03-2005 07:05 PM
That guy is probably a MXican, though.
It was probably Med

JonM 08-03-2005 07:07 PM

Yeah dude, you're probably right.

ATM 08-03-2005 07:09 PM

I think they may be going on tour to promote the new album :-D

JonM 08-03-2005 07:12 PM
I think they may be going on tour to promote the new album :-D
We're spamming, but I can't wait to see them again.

/pulls thread back on topic

Today I've been digging Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me, Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow, Ani DeFranco - Educated Guess, and I'm still enjoying Elbow - Leaders Of The Free World.

Little Man being Erased 08-03-2005 07:38 PM

This morning I have enjoyed Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight and Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... but Nothing is Lost.

6Stringer 08-03-2005 07:54 PM

Today all I listened to was DJ Danger Mouse and MF Doom - DangerDoom, it never gets old to me. I love it.

Little Man being Erased 08-03-2005 07:58 PM

It wouldn't wanna be getting old yet, seeing as it's not even out yet and all.

6Stringer 08-03-2005 08:12 PM
It wouldn't wanna be getting old yet, seeing as it's not even out yet and all.
I know, I saw it advertised on Adult Swim last night and I thought man, I'm so happy we have YSI and people who get leaked albums on MX.

biografiend 08-03-2005 08:53 PM

Today:

American Football
Archer Prewitt
Castanets

Chik 08-03-2005 09:32 PM

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas

Zappa 08-03-2005 11:40 PM

I just, for the first time, listened to the original running order (and am on the bonus tracks) of

Buy by James Chance & The Contortions

Seems to be a pretty fuckin' stellar album.

Little Man being Erased 08-03-2005 11:44 PM

I just realised how much I love Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

What sort of music is it? Like most of the other stuff you post about, I've never heard of them.

Zappa 08-03-2005 11:56 PM
What sort of music is it? Like most of the other stuff you post about, I've never heard of them.
They call it "no wave," I guess. It's sort of like more avant garde post-punk. The Contortions play pretty funky rock music with some really hot sax playing (James Chance plays sax and sings, and originally moved to NYC to become a jazz musician) and really angular riffing and anxious-sounding vocals.

Little Man being Erased 08-03-2005 11:59 PM

That sure does sound mighty interesting, fella.

Dog 08-04-2005 12:01 AM

Aren't the Residents classified as no wave? If they are then I don't think I would like much from the genre.

asymm 08-04-2005 01:25 AM

Sigur Rós - Takk

musicisgood 08-04-2005 03:23 AM

^^^^^^
Ha. Me too.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 08-04-2005 03:24 AM

Me toooo. It's extremely, extremely good. Although I'm only on song 3. :p

br3ad_man 08-04-2005 06:31 AM

Six Degrees of Separation
M83
The Kills

Adult Swim is the sussest name.

ATM 08-04-2005 06:40 AM

Hey Smackers, I listened to your mp3s, they were pretty impressive

The Contortions are a cool band.
Aren't the Residents classified as no wave? If they are then I don't think I would like much from the genre.
I've always just called The Residents Avant-garde. They're a lot different from the Contortions.

Smackers 08-04-2005 06:42 AM

I always thought the Residents were classified as the Residents.

Thank you, I spend a lot of time on them until I get them just right and it's really nice to hear some feed back. Right now I'm working on a cover of "In Heaven" from the movie Eraserhead. The Pixies use to play it after each show. They did a great cover of it, but I always thought there should be a really creepy and f*cked up version of it, so I've decided to do that. I'll send you a copy of that when I'm done if you want too also.

They sounded so professional. How are you creating them?

Smackers 08-04-2005 07:28 AM
They sounded so professional. How are you creating them?
I've gotten good at getting the sound I want with my four track, which is digital, and I'm sure that helps. But I think my mixing software is probably the best thing I use right now to make them sound like they do. It's just a version of Cool edit, but it's really good for what I'm working on. You should hear my old stuff though, it sounds more like actual demos with a lower quality. I guess it's just been a lot of practice and trial and error.

So overall, I record the songs on my four track and mix them with cooledit. That's pretty much it.

...or maybe I'm really really special. :D ;)

ATM 08-04-2005 07:31 AM

Is Cool Edit free? I want to start recording things.

Electrocution 08-04-2005 01:22 PM

I have fallen in love with Sonic Youth's Sister.

6Stringer 08-04-2005 01:42 PM

Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk and Trout Mask Replica

I found out Captain Beefheart has a four octave range voice. The average person only has 2, I think.

Zappa 08-04-2005 01:51 PM

Yeah, the Captain does have a big range. And he wrote some of the most charmingly bumpy music of the late 60s to be included on Trout Mask Replica .

Happymeal 08-04-2005 02:13 PM

I never liked Tom Waits this much until now. His later works didn't make much of an impression on me but Rain Dogs certainly hits the spot.

biografiend 08-04-2005 02:16 PM

Today has been full of:
Broken Social Scene
Archer Prewitt
American Football
Death Cab
Castanets.

it has been very mellow listening day.

Zappa 08-04-2005 02:20 PM

The No New York compilation, particularly the songs by James Chance & The Attractions and DNA.

Little Man being Erased 08-04-2005 03:57 PM

Pinback - Summer in Abaddon
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

and now, Black Mountain - Black Mountain

later, more Dylan.

Smackers 08-04-2005 04:37 PM
Is Cool Edit free? I want to start recording things.
You can get a free demo of it but after a few times, it won't let you save your work anymore. I think I only paid half price for mine version of it. It was still $120 though. Maybe start out by trying the demo.

Zappa 08-04-2005 04:42 PM

I illegally downloaded CoolEdit Pro 2.0, and that's what I use to create masterpieces.
