Learning to Fly.
I wasn't thinking about stuff after Roger left, but ok that works. Floyd definitely got a little poppier with David at the helm.
I wouldn't call later Floyd arena-rock at all. It definitely became less spacy but it's not like they made a The Who type transformation.
When I think arena rock I think Journey and Boston.
I wouldn't say Pink Floyd fits in with those two bands. |
I'll be seeing Roger in about 2 hours from now . Gonna get hiiiiiigh tonight.
You are so lucky. I almost saw him last september, he played the entire DSoTM for his second set. I couldnt afford tickets though :( |
Yeah he's still playing Darkside for the second set. On the Run was ****ing crazy!

Yeah, I could imagine. I would kill to see Time and Brain Damage/Eclipse live |
I had Time stuck in my head the entire day after. The guitarist with Roger nailed the solo perfectly. Absolutely flawless.
i love earlier floyd, its pretty much all the floyd i listen to. but i absolutely love it.
my favorite songs: Interstellar Overdrive Julia Dream Stoned Alone (although its not quite a whole song) Astronimy Domine Let There Be More Light Jugband Blues Fat Old Sun |
Atom Heart Mother is starting to grow on me.
Fat Old Sun is now one of my favorite Floyd songs. The other two "solo" songs on the album are awesome, too. |
Stoned Alone is so trippy I love it.
I haven't heard that song. Is it on Relics or something?
No, it wasn't released. It was written in like 66 by Barrett. Supposedly its the first thing he wrote for the band.
Oh I'll see if I can find it on soulseek.
Now you guys have gotten me listening to 60's Floyd. Oh well. |
oh well,
nothing wrong with that. i love sixties floyd :) |

Definitely, absolutely nothing wrong with listening to some sixties Floyd. Hell, I'm listening to PATGoD right now.
So what do you guys think of Syd Barretts solo stuff?
So what do you guys think of Syd Barretts solo stuff?
my favourite is The Madcap Laughs, wich is also I think his first solo album... |
Decent efforts, not really that noteworthy though. Madcap Laughs is good for a spin every now and then though.
yeah madcap is decent, not something i really get an overwhelming urge to listen to though.
I've only heard Barrett and it's not very good.
Have you guys listened to any of the outtakes on Madcap Laughs?
I don't know if it's only on a special edition of the CD or what, but there are a bunch of "takes" of some of the songs where Syd is just off in his own world being crazy and messing up the songs. It's really a little creepy. |
I like the song Octopus.
me too
did anybody else see Roger Waters's solo tour??? dude I saw it on the 30th and it was one of the greatest things that I've ever seen. He played a lot of songs that I didn't think he'd play that I really wanted to hear. What did you guys think?
I didnt go but what unexpected songs did he play? I really want to see him though.
I think it was more the solo stuff he played rather than the songs from Floyd's catalogue. More from Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking than I think anyone expected.
he played songs off of the final cut(shivers at the mention of) like southampton dock, the fletcher memorial home, and then other stuff. I didn't think he'd play Mother, or In the Flesh, and those were the songs that he opened with
Pink Floyd is steadily becoming my favorite band
