The way I usually defended gay people at school was to hit anyone who bagged on my gay friends. That worked for me.

I vote nay to violence.
I vote nay to violence.
What about violence that reduces the overall level of violence in the world? Hypothetically, an act of terrorism that killed the whole of the G8 would diminish violence in the world, surely that's something you would support?

RIP Ian Curtis 02-16-2006 11:41 AM

This wasn't a political statement, this was a "you fuc'k with my friends you f'uck with me" statement. However, I do agree with Eran, violence is an essential tool in social change. Hippies forget this, and terrorists forget the other tools, and the violence has to be 1. Perfectly targetted and 2. The last resort.

That's a little different, but I still wouldn't support that.

Don't turn to the dark side, man. I'm sure you know very well that there are other ways to stop the violent/exploitative actions of the G8 without killing anyone, it's just that everyone's way too alienated(sp?) and lazy to do that though and violence will just alienate people's views of everything even more. We know it's not right by any means, but as you've said yourself, these things take time. Not even Utilarianism supports "violence to reduce violence overall".

Anyway, on a more DIY note, I made a Radiohead t-shirt and my friends made me a cool book about me for my birthday in the style of a 'zine I like to read. Pics will be posted as soon as I dig out my camera.

No offence to you particularly, but I hate when people say things like this. There's no difference between politics and real life. If what you believe in and what you do are separate things, it's not called politics. It's called hypocrisy.

I'm anti-violent by the way. Sure, an act of violence could decrease the amount of violence in the world, but there are still better ways.

My brother's girlfriend made this nice scrap book thing for his birthday a year ago, I thought that was so nice. :)

My latest DIY projects have been a Specials shirt and an Adicts shirt. I'll post pictures later.

iam2000pounds 02-16-2006 08:27 PM

I made an Adicts shirt a while ago.

No I agree with you there, what I was saying was beating up these guys wasn't a politcal statement, i.e. I beat up all homophobes, this was a personal act.
???
It's a huge inside sorta thing. Nearly 400 copies were made of a flyer for people to vote for Joe Jones to be on Americas Next Top Model, and we put them up all over town/school.

That IS a political statement, just as much as a neo-nazi beating up Jews is a political statement. There's nothing in the world that doesn't have something to do with politics, as long as humans are involved.

I finally got around to making Brad's Skating Permitted stencil. It's looking pretty kickrectum.

That's Nick Griffin, leader of the british national party, a bunch of nazi fascist scum.

iam2000pounds 02-19-2006 12:14 AM

A tried making a D.O.A. shirt today, but the paper I used was too thin, and the paint soaked right through.

DaveToopes 02-19-2006 12:16 AM

I'm sorry.

I'm in the process of fixing it, pics up within the hour.

That's the cutest thing I've ever seen in the DIY thread, including asdf's (lol, assdef) bike.

Everyone's laughing at me. :(

coheneran 02-19-2006 04:58 PM

Only because your screenname is different to ours. Conform. Conform. My printer is being a bitch so I can't print out my new Nick Griffin stencil (the one on my avatar). I'm gonna play around free-handing stuff for a bit. Does your screen name have any special meaning, or did you just hit four keys in linear order?
