Interesting that you mention that, becaues I've thought abou it but realized it's unlikely, mainly because their record company would not allow it. They'll want the maximum time for promotion and building anticipation as possible.
Since when has Tool done what their record company wants? |
^^Well, i don't think they have much choice sometimes.
|
JoZ said somewhere back that it'd be hardcore to have a fulltime keyboard/synth player for Tool. I was thinking that just yesterday! Imagine Reflection, Lateralus and The Patient with keyboard... ooooh. And Third Eye too.
But since the next album is more brutal, semi-death metal, I guess keyboard's won't work. |
I wouldn't go as far as calling it even semi-death metal. I wouldn't like that at all.
|

Those tracks definetly could benefit from a keyboard. Not that the songs are bad or lacking as they are, but the extra synth would only make it better...
But since the next album is more brutal, semi-death metal, I guess keyboard's won't work.
Heavier? Oh yes. Death metal? Never. |
When I think of Tool making their music a little more heavier, I think Ticks and Leeches style.
|
When I think of Tool making their music a little more heavier, I think Ticks and Leeches style.
Agreed. Or end of The Grudge heavier. It will be very interesting to see what "heavier" means for Tool. I think it will mean more crushing walls of sound, and bigger sonic landscapes rather than chugging riffage. |
i think the new album will be like probably how Aenema was, but in a ticks and leeches style. Since that song wan't about the lateralus type stuff.
srry but i have to say that if maynard found jesus then well, i guess the world would end. also i think that their version of heavier could be more dynamical, and chilled out, and longer songs. And with the salival cd i like third eye live a little bit but, i think they could've done the end like the album version instead of maynard only sayin " prying open my third eye" 4 times. and pu**** i like it, because the intro and how they go from the modified version to the original. |
^^Well, i don't think they have much choice sometimes.
At one point didn't they stop recording one of their album and refused to play because their record company was fucking them around too much? At least I think I read that somewhere... could be bullshit. |
On the whole Maynard/Jesus issue...I don't care if he has found Jesus...What pisses me off, is that he "abandoned the project altogether"...
|
But he didn't, it was a joke. So in other words, that's irrelevant.
|
It will be very interesting to see what "heavier" means for Tool.

I'm thinking the new album will also have numerous songs that will be considered epic, if the album itself isn't dubbed that first. |
Yeah so my band are covering schism, i have gone over it with my guitarist and we have it pretty tight, i just really want a whammy pedal now for the bridge bit, as the one on my zoom multi-effects mucks up my tone.
|
Those tracks definetly could benefit from a keyboard.
Not that the songs are bad or lacking as they are, but the extra synth would only make it better...
Well people can use keyboards too much i still think it would be deadly but if they did lets hope they dont go overboard with it. |
I don't think they will overdo it.
I mean every cd is so balanced, so why wouldn't they balance it out when they hacve an active synthplayer? |
Wow... I really suck at guitar...
Edit: oh and I thought you guys would enjoy this picture of our hero, The 'Nard. Maynard At Constantine Movie Premier
I finally got to see that last night. I love the take on the Good Vs Evil stuff. And 4 people headbanging in a cinema when Passive came on was quite cool too. |
Oh yeah, i saw Constantine the other day and when it finished and the end music came on, i was like......"wait.. thats tool!" is it a new song?
|
It's passive, It's on a perfect circles latest release, emotive. It's a cover of a song Maynard wrote with trent reznor for the tapeworm project...google it/search this thread for more info...
...In other new, AJIG's avatar dances perfectly to Nin's - The day the world went away. |
That's awesome...I'm glad you're listening to The Fragile.
I think Tool's new "heaviness" will not be Ticks and Leeches style, but rather a concentration on, like Joz said, sonic landscapes and dynamic shifts. |
i think heavyness in music as in the delivery of it (for lack of a better word). but yea pretty much what Joz and Kage said.
|
If you take Patient for example, that's a really melodic and somewhat mellow song, yet it's heavy because of that huge build-up of tension and then it explodes into the distorted section, and it sounds really heavy.
|
Tool's dynamics is what makes them heavy. And if a heavier approach means more dynamics, then its bliss for me.
No, Adam does. I don't know how though.
He's got a foot controller for his synthesizer. each button produced a different tone, then for guitar (which was probably on the other channel) he played a real simple riff. i've seen it live adam is doing both at the same time. |

No, no... I knew that. What I meant, is, I don't know what technology/pedal he's using to get those tones. :thumb: |
Just found a very interesting interview between Maynard and a philosopher. Its back from 2001 so its a bit old and i'm not sure if anyone has read it before but if not, here it is:
http://www.cdicarlo.com/paper_04maynard.htm I believe it was posted at the Tool Army site and well, I just got around to reading it. Anyway, it's a great interview where they discuss philosophy, Hitler, Religion, the media, Fibonacci sequence, etc, etc. They also talk quite a bit about many of Tool's songs and the meaning behind them like Stinkfist. Enjoy. |
ohoh maybe the reason we havn't heard anything about the whole maynard inncident since is because he's running for pope, so i say yeah maynard for pope, maybe he can fix the world and make people think, he has my vote but im not a cardinal so he doesn't really but if i was he would have
|
|
What is the origin of the Manyard/Jesus thing??
