You can be very analytic as long as you can still enjoy the music.
If you put your analysis before the feeling a song or album invokes, then you're wrong imo. But analysis isn't bad. Oh well, each to his own. |
I know this, but the way those vocals were recorded still kills the quality of the music.
@Cocaine: This statement refers to production/engineering. Leveling would be more of a mixing thing. But whatever, I don't want to argue about it. |
I just feel that oversaturated vocals take a lot away from any feel.
Well then I fail at terminology, I did sort of mean the leveling oh well. |

I don't like some of the material on Panzerfaust.
|
Saturation does work in some cases, take the ambient interlude in Thus From My Lips, By Yours, My Sin Is Purged by As Cities Burn for example, however when the vocals come out sounding like some sort of a laser or siren because of distortion, I think it gets to be a bit much.
|
Yea, true.
However, not to be a dick (because we are both All Shall Perish fans), some of his screams sound like that sometimes.... Especially on The Price of Existance. |
I don't like some of the material on Panzerfaust.
mainly the vocals for me. Although it has it's charm, I think it'd be better if they were drowned into the production like Burzum - Filosofem or Darkspace - Darkspace I |
That's what kills a lot of Darkthrone's work for me.....
|
Yea, true.
Especially on The Price of Existance.
Hate. Malice. Revenge. was with a different singer. He was fat and like 6'5", watching their old videos is fun. |

Hate. Malice. Revenge. was with a different singer. He was fat and like 6'5", watching their old videos is fun.
1) I most definitely agree. 2) I only listened to a few off thier first one a long time ago, so I actually did not know this.....that's funny. |
HMR is real good, I think it's funny how they found a better singer who with the same voice, so to speak.
|
Wow, I never thought I'd see bitching about production in this thread.

Paysage D'Hiver ****ing blows. I downloaded his semi-new album last night and it was terrible.
|
What, how dare you Austin >:|
I have not heard that one but the S/T and a couple others and they rule. |
I just couldn't listen to it. I should be mixed with a lot of harsh vocaled sections like Vinterriket, who is far superior to Paysage.
|
Vinterriket are boring. I could never get through the album I had in one listening. It seemed to be something I'd like. Ah well.
I haven't heard the new Paysage D'Hiver, but what I did hear was good. Haven't listened in ages though. |
i like paysage
austin are you talking about einsamkeit |
Necromansy if fucking great.
Let's not mention the cool extended elite 6 min version I got. |
Yeah, I think. It had the song Kraft off it.
but what I did hear was good.
Haha, how do you like Paysage but not Vinterriket? Vinterriket has some awesomly well-timed harsh vocal sections. |

The album was too long for it's own good from what I remember. It dragged on, and I would just get bored. It had some good moments, but... Incase you say anything about Paysage albums being long, I have the one that's a little over half an hour long, Kristel and Isa. I also have the s/t, but I haven't completely listened to that one yet. However, I don't have a problem with very lengthy albums. That one just didn't hold my attention. Nice avatar btw, good release. Have't listened to in a while, either though :p |
Yeah, haven't listened to in a while either. I wrote a review for Summer Rehearsal by the way.
|
Actually it was just sacrifice i'm sorry :I
|
Yeah, I read it. It's hard to describe that release, heh.
|
I only wrote it becuause I saw you on M-A and noticed you'd written like 10 reviews and I only had one, hahaha.
|

 I might go back and re write some eventually. /shrug And I'm never sure about ratings, which is a piss off, so I just leave them as they are from now on. |
Hey Austin, did you ever listen to that Krohm album? I have it but have yet to listen.
|
first Krohm album is awfully boring... is the new one any better?
|
And I'm never sure about ratings, which is a piss off, so I just leave them as they are from now on.
Go with 7% or 97% |
no it can't be sacrifice wtf =|
|
first Krohm album is awfully boring... is the new one any better?
The one song I heard from it was quit good, it had a really eerie and cool atmosphere and good vocals. |
Go with 7% or 97%
:p Nah, I don't give everything high ratings. The only reason most of the releases UI've reviewed so far are in the 90's, is because I haven't bothered yet reviewing other albums. I've only reviewed some of my favorite releases. I saw someone give a rating in the 90's, to sometihng he described in the title as "generic, but very good" ...or sometihng along those lines. I was like wtf |
MA reviews are pretty much all stupid, it is either really high or really low, people don't really grasp that a 20%=1/5
|
I didn't like the Krohm, sadly. I thought I would, but the vocals to me sucked and the instrumental aspect boried me.
|

I'll still listen to it since I enjoyed that sample track.
