By the way kids, there is no such genre as "goth" and "goth" does not have a sound associated with it, so there is no way the band is goth or has goth influences.
But there IS Goth Industrial. We've got a "goth industrial rave" around here called Ceremony. It's supposed to be really fun. Oh, and The Southern Death Cult/The Death Cult/The Cult sort of encompassed the transition from punk-goth punk-goth industrial.

maco 08-19-2005 08:31 PM
More like "No Dave Party". That song is pretty cool and catchy. I would listen to it a lot more if it wasn't a hassle to get to.

For those that don't know, the song I'm talking about is a hidden track on Very Proud Of Ya. But instead of being on the end of the album, it's before track one. If you own the CD, rewind right when track one starts to play, and you will find this song. It's an instrumental, hence the title: "No Dave Party".
We forgot Initiation.

cheeser_1 08-19-2005 09:53 PM
Cheeser, why does that hurt your brain?
cause it's like a word, except it isn't, and it's all funny and.. *brain explode*

i could be wrong. people play up the fashion way too much in that end of the things, as far as i've ever noticed. so that may explain why it's a big deal.

Goth could be used to describe some bands, a lot of it IS their association with the fashion and scene, but it's still used as a classification. And some industural gets it. HIM gets is, but they just suck and hot topic fags like them.

agreed, except for the unnecessarily homophobic language.

Siouxsie and the Banshees and Skinny Puppy are both considered goth.

I like HIM.

That was a very rude word you used.

Skinny Puppy borders industrial as well.

I'm usually a very rude person/

maco 08-20-2005 12:33 AM

Still no reason to use that word

El_Shiznit 08-20-2005 10:40 AM

You fags are ruining this thread.
agreed, except for the unnecessarily homophobic language.
Yeah, I agree. Fag isn't a nice word at all.

/serious

RetiredAt21 08-20-2005 12:24 PM

Seriously though, this thread is being ruined. Stop talking about s'hitty goth bands. Like anyone cares in the first place.

Brain Toad 08-20-2005 02:57 PM
You fags are ruining this thread.
:upset: that isn't nice Dustin

I'm sorry for everyone thinking me saying fag was so awful. I'll try not to say it front of such sensative people again.

RetiredAt21 08-20-2005 05:34 PM

I really don't think it's awful. Seriously, it's just a word, and although it's a pretty mean word, it's just that, a word. You could be doing worse things than saying "fag" on an internet forum, like going out and beating up gay people or something.

cheeser_1 08-20-2005 08:16 PM

so? beating up gays isn't as bad as killing them, does that make it okay?

Brain Toad 08-20-2005 08:21 PM

Stop. Now. This thread was fine and spam free. Don't ruin it.

RetiredAt21 08-20-2005 08:31 PM

So, did anyone else think the solo from Dancing Through Sunday is as spectacular as I think it is?

cheeser_1 08-20-2005 08:44 PM
So, did anyone else think the solo from Dancing Through Sunday is as spectacular as I think it is?
i think it's quite good.

RetiredAt21 08-20-2005 08:45 PM

I wish I could "shred" like that.

Sleeper 08-20-2005 10:38 PM

Dancing Through Sunday is my favorite AFI solo, anyone have a favorite AFI solo?

Gnarmageddon 08-20-2005 10:39 PM

Are there really any other ones? I can't think of any.

RetiredAt21 08-20-2005 10:41 PM

There's one in 6 to 8, but it's nothing special. Anyone could play it.

Gnarmageddon 08-20-2005 10:42 PM

I guess the beginning of God Called In Sick Today could be counted as a solo. Jade's the only guitar player, so it makes sense that there aren't many.

El_Shiznit 08-20-2005 10:44 PM

There are some solo's from Mark on early AFI.

Nothing compared to "Dancing Through Sunday" though. I wish I could play that, but I don't think I'll ever be that good.

I still like "6 to 8"'s solo better. For lack of a better term, it sounds more "soulful".

And I wouldn't call GCIST's intro a solo per se.

_ThisSecretNinja_ 08-20-2005 10:47 PM

I like the Dont Make Me Ill solo

Gnarmageddon 08-20-2005 10:52 PM

The intro to Don't Make Me Ill is great. What is that taken from?

cheeser_1 08-20-2005 11:59 PM

let's not forget that wonderful tapping part from the leaving song pt. 2. not a solo, so much as an intro, but he definitely deserves some credit for that one.

RetiredAt21 08-21-2005 01:02 AM

Yeah, the intro to that song is pretty good.

cheeser_1 08-21-2005 02:06 AM

i need to learn how to tap.

Oz Rembrandt 08-21-2005 05:07 AM

.
That is air guitar material.

alkalinesk8er 08-21-2005 08:31 AM
i need to learn how to tap.
It's really easy. Have your finger on the second note in the progression and reach for the third as you smack a finger from your other hand on the first.

Too bad you almost always sound like cheese metal whenever you do it though.

RetiredAt21 08-21-2005 12:36 PM

Tapping is really easy. The first tapping part I ever learned was the intro to Lip Gloss and Black by Atreyu. :(

cheeser_1 08-21-2005 12:41 PM

this is the part where i roll up a newspaper and smack you.

RetiredAt21 08-21-2005 12:48 PM

What the crap? I thought we were buddies? :(

cheeser_1 08-21-2005 02:01 PM

we are buddies. but sometimes you need discipline. and not the bedroom kind either.

Brain Toad 08-21-2005 02:19 PM

I was thinking about AFI last night in the moments trying to get to sleep (my second best thinking place, next to the shower). And I remembered hearing Girls Not Grey when it had first come out as a single in a record store and liking it a bit. So I thought I should check them out more. I never reeally did, I think I got I Want a Mohawk, but had a computer crash and lost all my mp3s (this was before I got a new computer). So I thought about it, and if I had checked them out, I'd probably have the same opinion I have now. And since this was the time I was first getting into punk, if I had gotten into them then, I think I may of gotten into other hardcore easier, because of the similarities, and now I'd probably be able to stand bands like Carry On and Comeback Kid for more than one song every month or so.

RetiredAt21 08-21-2005 02:43 PM

But Cheeser, I'm not a puppy.

cheeser_1 08-21-2005 03:06 PM
But Cheeser, I'm not a puppy.
i don't know that for sure. if a sign-language monkey can us AIM, i'm sure a puppy could post on an internet forum.

Yeah they're old stuff is the definition of "a starter hardcore band".

Brain Toad 08-21-2005 05:26 PM

I'm sure many of you are quite knowledgable of AFI, so I encourage you to submit a Band bio blurb for the Top 100 Punk Bands. If you think you can do a good one, email it to me at braintoad@gmail.com

EDIT: BERSERKER! is doing it...
