Oh yea, Long Live Rock is one I forgot to mention, as well as the Seeker. Originally I thought Long Live Rock was a little lame and cliche, but recently I've started liking it a lot more. It fits perfectly for the credits at the end of The Kids Are Alright.
Yeah, I think it paints a nice vivid picture of a chaotic Who gig. And it's funny, also: Down at the Astoria the scene was changing, Bingo and rock were pushing out X-rating, We were the first band to vomit in the bar, And find the distance to the stage too far, Meanwhile it's getting late at ten o'clock, Rock is dead they say, Long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive. People walk in sideways pretending that they're leaving, We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins, Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong, Promoter's in the pay box wondering where the band's gone, Back in the pub the governor stops the clock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive. Landslide, rocks are falling, Falling down 'round our very heads, We tried but you were yawning, Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead. The place is really jumping to the high-watt amps, 'Til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps, In the blackout they dance right into the aisle, And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles, Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock. Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive. Pete does a great job on vocals, too. Pure And Easy is another great tune that never made an "official" album". Naked Eye, as well. |
Parts of it also seem very sentimental as well, like "...And find the distance to the stage too far", and "..And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles".
Great Who songs not on an "official" album: The Seeker The Relay Join Together Long Live Rock Let's See Action Naked Eye Pure and Easy Baby Don't You Do It And obviously many earlier cuts, especially the added bonus tracks on the Sell Out album. |
Pink, I haven't forgotten about you. I've never uploaded anything to anyone before. What's the best and most effecient way I can get the X material to you, about how long will it take, and can I use my computer for other things while I do it? I have medium DSL. Just some basic info will help me get started in that direction.
you should zip the album files using winzip or winrar. then go to www.yousendit.com and upload the zip/rar file and have it send it to me at pinkfreud2100@aol.com thanks a lot man. just do whatever album you think is their best or their most accessible. |

Yeah, I love Long Live Rock. It never gets the attention it should for an A grade rock anthem. |
It probably goes a bit underrated since it wasn't on an album. Albums last, and singles usually don't (unless they were huge, like Can't Explain, etc). Also, it doesn't really stand up as a rock anthem compared to Baba or Won't Get Fooled Again, so it's not easily recognizable. Still a very good song though.

When was it recorded? It sounds like a Quadrophenia- By Numbers era song.
When was it recorded? It sounds like a Quadrophenia- By Numbers era song.
Sometime between '71 and '74 I think. Anyways, yesterday I picked up the Live At the Isle of White DVD yesterday, and I'm loving it. They have so much stage presence... Even if some of the performances might not be quite Live at Leed's calibar, the fact that there's video to acompany it makes it increadible. |

I want to say 1972 off the top of my head. If I'm remembering correctly when Townshend was searching for concepts before he settled on the Quadrophenia idea, he dabbled in something about the life of rock, and if rock is dead, or something to that extent. He went through quite a few ideas before getting to the mod story that become Quadrophenia. And as you said, it's nice to have any video from their prime years. Some parts still stun me when I watch it (Young Man Blues is amazing). |

Yeah, that might be my favorite so far. I haven't had time to watch all of Tommy yet, but I shall soon. |
I've always like the Overture so that performance was great for me, and the finish on We're Not Gonna Take It is really magical, honestly. I was upset that they didn't have the Amazing Journey>Sparks footage though.

No Sparks  even the Woodstock one kicked ***! |
I know, it's on the soundtrack but not the DVD. Unfortunate, I really wish I could see footage of Amazing Journey and Sparks, considering how absolutely amazing the versions at Leeds and at the Isle of Wight are.

Tommy....
Lunch, I recommend you STOP posting. :) |
Haha, that was really funny to me for some reason.
How 'bout that Who? |
Yeah, they kick up a storm. New info says they will be hitting the road by summer and taking it all over the world. They are back in studio this month with the band and Pete sounds energized. I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully the old geezers don't give out before the end of the year. :(
|
Pete says the American leg of the tour starts in September, which sucks for me cause I'm gonna be going of to college when that happens. I was hoping it would be in the summer so I could go with my friends around here, but oh well. I have to see them anywhere they go.
Edit: I'm working on a review of Live at Leeds, mainly out of boredom but also because I'm trying to express how amazing it is in words. Edit 2: Here's the finished review, comment please: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=5171 |
The Who will headline T in the Park alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers
I'm (hoping I will go) going although I got to go by aeroplane from the Netherlands :P |
The Who will headline T in the Park alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers
I'm (hoping I will go) going although I got to go by aeroplane from the Netherlands :P
I live in America and have no idea what that is, but it will no doubt be an awesome double headliner show. And if The Who come on last (which I'm sure they will) they will have to turn in a strong performance to follow the Chili Peppers. Should be a good gig. |

I really wish I could go, but alas I live in America. Amagin if they had Flea come out to play a few numbers with, it would the closest to having John back they've come so far. |
T in the park is in scotland
and on 7july I'm seeing Sting here so it will be hard to get to scotland but I'll try :P |

That would be wild with Flea kicking out the jams with the Who. If Pino wouldn't be insulted. And I'm sure he wouldn't. He's a real pro. Just the thought of Flea going nuts with The Who makes me tingle in a very special place. :)
T in the park is in scotland and on 7july I'm seeing Sting here so it will be hard to get to scotland but I'll try :P
You will make it for The Who. WTF Sting at the sacrifice of The Who, WTF? |
It probably will be 7 july sting
8 july plain to scotland, arrive there before chili peppers, and watch them next day watch the who next day go to london next week have fun :P |
That would be a great few days.
I wouldn't miss the Who for anything. |
That would be a great few days.

I don't care about Sting or the RHCP really, but it would be cool to see them anyway. And the Who finishing it off would be incredible.

I think it's about time I start posting in this thread.
After having, and loving the album Tommy for awhile now, I finally saw the film. It was pretty weird. |
Yeah, so this Concert In The T or whatever sold out in an hour. Good start, I say....
I think it's about time I start posting in this thread. After having, and loving the album Tommy for awhile now, I finally saw the film. It was pretty weird.
Get the hell out. We've been happy here. |
I don't really like the film all that much. Which is saying something for me, the biggest Tommy whore around here. I heard the musicial was awesome though. I've heard the soundtrack and it was great.
I want to see the Quadrophenia movie, I've heard promising things about that too. Edit: Have they released any dates yet? |
Nothing solid for the tour. They are getting busy, though. Pete and Roger are set to play some dates at a Liverpool shindig (not as the Who) and I believe the band is set to play another Princess Trust concert. Or whatever it is. Pete's website has more info in The Who section. It's a members only thing, so I'm gonna copy and paste later, as I have to leave my house for a moment.
|
Ok cool. Make sure you keep us updated if we don't get the info.

@JohnXDoe, idd one hour, there me was in time through the waitline on ticketmaster.co.uk and than all of a sudden I couldn't order them from holland =S
|
Didn't realise there was a Quadrophenia movie.

/Has 4 tickets to T In The Park.

That sucks, man. I hate when that happens. I mean, I've been shut out before because of a sellout, but never because I couldn't order from my location. What's up with that? Meh, you can still see them sometime this year, most likely. Hopefully Holland orders will be accepted. :p
Didn't realise there was a Quadrophenia movie.
Yup. It's very good and I highly recommend it. It stands on it's own as it's own film, too. It's not a musical like the Tommy film. It's a straight drama and it tells the story straight. It's got it all. Jimmy, the Face, mods, rockers, rioting on the beach, uppers, downers, all arounders. GS Scooters. The whole mod thing. And it's got a remixed (by John) Quadrophenia soundtrack that perfectly suits the film. Do check it out.
/Has 4 tickets to T In The Park. :smoke:
Yeah, well, enjoy your smoke. /envy |
I heard the remix for the soundtrack was great. Although I never really cared much about the whole mod thing, it would still be interesting.

yes I know :) it's good to see that many dates
*still hoping for holland dates* |
Now if they only would vary their setlist that would be great but I guess that's why they play Europe.
Great way to justify to themselves playing the same ol tunes in same order each show with no varaition of any kind. |
Hey, I'm just happy they're able and willing to tour again at age 60+. Cut them some slack.
John: Looks like good news, I'm just waiting for those U.S. dates. Edit: My local CD shop has the deluxe edition of Who's Next (the one with the live disc and the bonus material) on sale for $20, so I might try to pick that up soon. It's still expensive but obviously much better than $30, and I want that live disc. |
