Shred Danson 05-05-2005 10:41 AM

I actually saw Trent Reznor last Saturday. NIN was in town because of Coachella fest and I was in Palm Desert going to a movie and a went to the restroom to expel forth my urine. As I was walking out, some lanky dude with long hair walked in, and I was like, "whoa, he looks familiar for some odd reason". Then I looked back and I said to myself "that's Trent Reznor!". I can say now with a little bit of pride that I saw Trent Reznor take a piss.

(wow, self pwnage  )

- The last word to describe Trent is "lanky". He's a short guy, and right now he's sporting a massive set of guns. I'm pretty sure you didn't see Trent.

edit:

AWESOME review of the new NIN album:
http://www.theninhotline.net/meatpers/mp_050305.html
That has to be the best review I've ever read :D

I don't wanna comment too much on the album yet. but I've listened to it a good 10 times, and I fugging love it. Ok, it's different from the rest of the albums, but the difference is a good thing. Standout tracks for me are All the Love In the World, Only, Getting Smaller.......screw it, I'm basically just gonna list every track. That's what I think is the most important part of the album; no filler.

Just a note, on the UK version, there's a song called Right Where It Belongs V.2. It's basically just a quiet version of the original, and I think I actually prefer it. Just wondering if anyone else has heard it.

Yeah, I just heard it a while ago (thanks to Med57 for uploading that one and "Home" :thumb: ). Anyway, it sounds good but I think I actually prefer the original version...I don't know. I like the whole crowd thing and the effects that were used. Eh, they're both just as good. :D

Madame Bulimia 05-05-2005 12:51 PM

It seems as if the man has still got it in terms of his technical brilliance, but cant bring himself to write more than like one good song on the album. And it sure as hell isnt "The Hand that Feeds"

Not to mention his lyrics always sucked.

Yeah....I dunno, I've still to decide properly which I prefer.....I just love V.2 so much.

I definitely dig the vocal melodies found on this album. There are some really great "pop-oriented" songs on the album that I would expect to hear in Abercrombie & Fitch (the music at least), but don't think I'm knocking that!!! I like the album; morso than The Downward Spiral (which aside from about 4 songs, I really don't like). However, With Teeth just can't come close to topping The Fragile. I'm not sure any NiN album ever could though, because The Fragile is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I guess I'd give With Teeth 4 stars out of 5.

NOTE: I've only listened to the album straight through once so far :thumb:

I got the album and my official With Teeth clothing line in the mail today. I've listened to it like 4 times now, and I really really love it. I still think there are some parts that are really bad, but no songs that are bad overrall. Like, the chorus to With Teeth is bad, and Only has really bad elements to it, but they're all good songs overrall. I'm not let down at all, I love it.

misunderstood 05-05-2005 06:49 PM

There is an update at the NIN access page. It's a rather interesting if anyone wants to check it out. He talks about the pdf. file, equipment, music he plays before each show, the new album.. :naughty: .. and some other stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd inform you guys...in case anyone is interested.

Kage 05-05-2005 07:17 PM

Trent keeps referring to some big thing that will happen, or some series of smaller events that will lead up to it. He refers to it as the "master plan" and always talks about how we should stay tuned and look forward to it and see what will happen, etc etc. I have no idea what this is, but I can say that I'm so eager to know what he's on about.

Anyone else excited that he's already working on the new album?

He's ALREADY working on it???
I thought he was going to take a little break and then start again on it. That awesome if he does.

And where do you get all this information? Is it from interviews and stuff? Because the only part I've heard about from all tha info, is about the "keep checking back to this site" thing.

And everyone seems to know alot more stuff than I do... I'm guessing interviews

Kage 05-05-2005 08:04 PM

Sort of... there's a section on the official NIN site where Trent answers questions from fans from time to time.

misunderstood 05-05-2005 08:13 PM

Yeah, I've read a few interviews where he talks about that "master plan"..and well, now we have it on the offical NIN site. I wonder what it is...It's killing me. Heh. But anyway, I'm pretty d@mn pyshced about him working on a new album already...in the meantime though, With Teeth is just awesome.

Lazy Beggar 05-05-2005 08:17 PM

Just thought I would say that thanks to this thread I got into NIN, got TDS first and then Fragile. Must say I prefer TDS but still I like Fragile, not sure what side I prefer yet though. I got PHM tonight and I wasn't too impressed by it on first listening and I got WT aswell, which I am listening to now, seems quite good.

I checked NIN out a while ago but found it too heavy for my liking but recently I have been getting into a more broad spectrum of music, and I found myself liking heavier bands like Tool and I seen them mentioned in this thread so I thought, "I might aswell check them out, it probably can't kill me." Pleased I did. So cheers.

Kage 05-05-2005 08:24 PM

^^That's awesome. I love hearing stories like that. Spreading the NIN word is always a good thing.

Awesome, thats good to hear.
Tool is also a great band. You should get more into them also if yuo haven't already.

AIC/EAZY-E 05-06-2005 12:59 AM

Since this is basically a general NIN thread now, does anyone have every song from Still that I could somehow get off them. I'm loving the 3 songs I've heard from it so far (AATCHB,Leaving Hope, The Persistence Of Loss) but I can't find it on any file sharing programs. Are the 'deconstructed' versions of the older songs very good?

AIC/EAZY-E 05-06-2005 01:28 AM

I was thinking of making a CD for a friend who wants to get into Nine Inch Nails. More of an opinionative thing...but just say the songs that best sum up their career, including the With Teeth songs. My tracklist so far (it would be a double album, haven't arranged them into an order of my liking yet) is this :

1.Down In It
2.Head Like A Hole
3.Sin
4.Terrible Lie
5.Something I Can Never Have
6.Wish
7.Happiness In Slavery
8.Gave Up
9.Last
10.March Of The Pigs
11.Closer
12.Mr. Self Destruct
13.Heresy
14.Piggy
15.Reptile
16.Eraser
17.Burn
18.The Perfect Drug
19.The Day The World Went Away
20.We're In This Together
21.The Fragile
22.Somewhat Damaged
23.The Wretched
24.Star****ers Inc.
25.Into The Void
26.Where Is Everybody?
27.The Big Comedown
28.Complication
29.And All That Could've Been
30.The Hand That Feeds
31.The Line Begins To Blur
32.All The Love In The World
33.You Know Who You Are?
34.Every Day Is Exactly The Same
35.Sunspots
36.Right Where It Belongs
37.Hurt

Now I notice I'll have to make some more glaring omissions to this tracklist as there is no way this can fit on 2 CD's. What ones do you think I should leave out or what ones do you think should be there that aren't even there?

Magicaltroll 05-06-2005 07:19 AM

I think The Becoming and Somewhat Damaged should be on there :thumb:

Kage 05-06-2005 07:34 AM

That's a pretty comprehensive list. Perhaps you should consider putting it on an Mp3 disc if you or your friend have those capabilities. I would cut down on the WT (Sunspots and THTF in specific) and take out Starfuckers, Where Is Everybody, Burn, and Last.

misunderstood 05-06-2005 11:04 AM

Yeah, I agree with Magicaltroll834 about adding "The Becoming"...Then again, that is one of my personal favorite songs off of TDS.

Bartender 05-06-2005 12:07 PM

Personally, I don't think I could ever make a NIN compilation without Just Like You Imagined, or indeed A Warm Place. I'd have thought a couple of the Fragile tracks in that list could be removed in favour of them, but then, it's not my compilation.

Kaden 05-06-2005 12:49 PM

With more listens, I've decided that I was wrong in saying there are no bad songs. Sunspots is the only bad one, it's quite boring.

misunderstood 05-06-2005 12:52 PM

Heh. You know, I don't think "Sunspots" is a bad song...but it is probably my least favorite on there. Maybe it will eventually grow on me.

12Rounds 05-06-2005 03:24 PM

Since it didnt come with a booklet, some people are printing the .pdf file as a poster on Echoing the sound. Itll probably cost you about 50-70$ to do it yourself so its not a bad deal, I got two.

I think that would be a good one, don't overdo it. You don't need to put every single NIN song you like on it for it to be a good introduction. Hell, Closer Hurt and The Perfect Drug would be a decent introduction.

Magicaltroll 05-06-2005 04:55 PM

Is anyone else having trouble downloading the pdf?
http://www.nin.com/with_teeth/content.asp

I've heard great things about the artwork, and the suspense is killing me.

BlindWriting 05-06-2005 10:30 PM

I was able to download and open it without a problem, but trying to scroll through it really stalled my computer. It's a really massive document, and there's no easy way to print it like Trent says.
I've heard great things about the artwork, and the suspense is killing me.
In all honesty, it was nothing spectacular. I really didn't mind not having linear notes, but the only thing that I was really interested in finding out was which songs Dave drums on (fairly obvious for the most part) and which Jerome drums on.

AIC/EAZY-E 05-06-2005 10:45 PM

A Warm Place is an excellent introduction to Eraser, those two together are one of my favourite moments in music, period. But, it probably wouldn't appeal to a person who is hearing NIN for the first time.
What is everyones opinions on the soundtrack-only song 'Deep'?

up_the_iron 05-07-2005 10:10 AM

its not his best but its OK

i think that "with teeth" is not the best NIN album but its OK. Its more POP the his other album. For me, the best song of the album it right where it blong. When we heard all the fans behing, its amazing.

i hope the next album will be more like the downward spiral :thumb:

Nah, its not gonna happen like that. I would also like tha a little bit too. But I'm more interested in whatever he wants to do, because its pretty cool watching a band/musician shape their sound through all of their albums.

While I'm pretty sure it will be slightly similiar to WT, I still wanna see what happenes with it.

Gave_Up 05-07-2005 01:54 PM

Personally I think its a really good album...fair enough its different from his other albums but what could you expect? Favourite songs probaly All The Love In The World and Right Where It Belongs :thumb:
