If you can read sheet music, this will clear a few things up : http://littlerowboat.net/piano/scores/ps/

And if not, http://www.powertabs.net/pta.php?page=song,12040 <- Here's an excellent powertab version..
It's a very awkward rythm, but as soon as you get it down, it seems completely logical

gaslight 06-11-2005 02:59 PM

How proud I am to actually have been able to consult the first link this time :D! Music school is working :).

Thanks heaps, that makes so much sense. *Chorus of "Oohs" and "Ahhs" while reading.*

denboy 06-11-2005 03:25 PM

I'm actually practising reading music to get into a music school, it's nice to be able to do something I find to be great fun, while actually doing something constructive! hehe

gaslight 06-11-2005 03:34 PM

Definately, I'm about to complete the first semester of a one year course here. I love it, it is so much better than high school.

I'm enjoying it so much that once I am good enough, I want to go back to this same place and do the Bachelor of Music course.

Trigger_003 06-11-2005 03:39 PM

Sweet stuff there Knifeboy. Nice vocals :thumb:.

gaslight 06-11-2005 03:40 PM

Hey Trea (that's your name right?)

You're up early :). I haven't quite gotten around to sleeping yet.

Trigger_003 06-11-2005 04:17 PM

Hey Matt :). Yeah, it's Trea.
Man, all nighter? Doing much or just stuffing around on the net etc.?
It was only 7.30 :p.

gaslight 06-11-2005 04:46 PM

Music, MX, indexing my music collection on my computer, Seinfeld marathon on TV1, just the usual stuff :). I had a lie down for a while because I had a headache, but that's all better now. I'll probably try and stay awake throughout the day so I can go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight and then be in a normal-person-sleeping-pattern for exam week.

I also need to do some revision for my Theory and Music Technology exams, and just keep on with my ear training for the Aural exam.

What are you doing today?

Trigger_003 06-11-2005 05:04 PM

Sounds good.
At the moment, I'm going down to a shop to get some timber. Then I'll just play guitar and do some Mx I spose. Oh yeah, and check out that fundamental ear training program or whatever it was :).
See ya later.

gaslight 06-11-2005 05:06 PM

Timber hey, building a guitar? Possibly some kind of fort?

Either way, cya later.

Trigger_003 06-11-2005 07:47 PM

:p Nah, I'm helping a mate build a deck.

Oh yeah, I'm going to the city tonight for my b'day party too (who cares if my birthday was 3 weeks ago).

So you're mainly just revising/studying today?

airborne50caliber 06-11-2005 11:46 PM

A mixing deck????? Wow

gaslight 06-12-2005 12:58 AM

Studying/sleeping/Seinfeld.

It's all good.

Trigger_003 06-13-2005 12:47 AM
A mixing deck????? Wow
 I wish.
Nah, an it-goes-around-a-house-and-you-stand-on-it kind of deck.

gaslight 06-13-2005 01:24 AM

Oh those decks.

You guys wanna hear my Mogwai remix?

http://s14.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2M895FD14KCVF3T2EGS7J2A14S

I made it last night.

decking?

airborne50caliber 06-13-2005 02:44 AM

Oh that kinda deck...

gaslight 06-13-2005 04:22 AM

Little help guys?

Time sig question.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352115

Trigger_003 06-14-2005 01:43 AM

Sorry for the confusion there guys.

Oh yeah, Matt,
With the Mogwai thing: Haven't heard the original, so I don't know what's changed, but the remix sounded pretty sweet anyway.

To your second set of questions (key sig. questions):
"A bar of 5/8 could be filled out by crotchet beat, and a dotted crotchet beat. Right?"
Yup.
"So would a bar of 5/4 correspondingly be filled out by the equivelant of a minim beat and dotted minim beat, keeping the same pattern?"
Pretty sure.

Hope you did well in your exam today/will do well in your upcoming ones man (and anyone else doing them).

gaslight 06-14-2005 02:01 AM

Thanks :). That's my first ever remix attempt so I played it pretty safe not knowing what to do really. I plan to practice that kind of thing and have some fun with it during the break coming up.

I think I did pretty alright in my theory exam today :). Most of the real theory wasn't a hassle for me but I forget the verbal questions like "What are the 1st, 4th, and 5th chords of a scale referred to as?" The answer being primary chords. Stuff like that I forgot to study.

I also wasted my time learning that the process of dividing an octave into twelve equal notes is called Equal Temperament and was "invented" by J S Bach in 1650.

I will have to file that in my brain along with all the dates pertinent to Nazi Germany. Thankyou, HSC.

What year did stresseman die?

Trigger_003 06-14-2005 02:29 AM

Good to hear. That remixing will help with a lot in composition... I should really get into it too :).

Speaking of verbal questions, our Italian teacher was telling us about the external year 12 VCE Italian exam (man - what am I getting into?). It consists mainly of a 7 minute oral (in Italian on migration) and 3 tapes (all spoken in fast Italian) being played upon the basis of which we have to:
the 1st) write an essay (in Italian) on
2nd) write another essay (but this time in English) on
3rd) reply (in Italian) to questions asked (also in Italian) by the examiner.
Owch.

/Just listened to one of Colditz Glider's songs :thumb:.

gaslight 06-14-2005 02:29 AM

1929.

*Twitches*.

moaner 06-14-2005 02:58 AM

after some years of that guy, aes changes his avatar for a sad flower.

strange. Although you can see the slight resemblance between aes and his flower.

it's like double vision.

Aes820 06-14-2005 03:00 AM

He' not sad... He' ANGRY!

he looks like he doesn't trust whoevers holding the camera.

Aes820 06-14-2005 03:17 AM

Uggh.
You can always tell when Chris has had a few drinks.
Whenever someone points a camera at him, he gets a big ol' sh!t eating grin on his face.

moaner 06-14-2005 03:29 AM

why are you talking in the third person?

Aes820 06-14-2005 03:31 AM

No reason.

Anybody familiar with the Schrodinger's Cat scenario?

moaner 06-14-2005 03:39 AM

i beleive so.

Is that the one where in order to measure something, you change it?

moaner 06-14-2005 03:41 AM

oh, its the oe where the cat is dead AND alive.

unfortunately, i don't know enough quantum physics to really grasp its importance.

Aes820 06-14-2005 03:52 AM

I've just recently rekindled my love for an old web comic which I used to get into alot.
And I was reminded of this particular strip:
http://www.angryflower.com/schrod.gif

It has put the concept behind Schrodinger's Cat into a means which I can more easily relate to (and doesn't involve animal cruelty).
The fridge contains both equal possibilites of beer, or no beer.
The only way to find out is to open the fridge and look for yourself.

So, wether the beer actually exists or not is only determined by a humans aknowledgement of if it is there or not.
So, without human perception, would anything exist?

moaner 06-14-2005 03:58 AM

If a man speaks in a forest and his wife isn't there to hear it, is he still wrong?

Aes820 06-14-2005 04:07 AM

We are so deep!

But, really, I'd give it a week or so 'till I'm bored of this Avatar and go for a new one.

moaner 06-14-2005 04:39 AM

hehe

i've had mine for aaaaaages, but i'm yet to see a better one.

gaslight 06-14-2005 04:56 AM

I change mine on a whim.

Trigger_003 06-14-2005 04:58 AM

I've had mine for ages too.

It was off the front of a birthday card I gave to a friend. Inside it said: For your birthday, I grew you a cat. It was so lame that it was funny.

Don't be a humanist... if a puma opens the fridge, finds the beer, and gets drunk as ****, we can't really say the beer didn't exist just because we humans didn't acknowledge it....
