RIP Ian Curtis 02-19-2006 12:26 PM
Definitely check out some Bad Brains. I recommend their self-titled album. Also: Common Rider, The Dead Boys, Flogging Molly, The Pogues, and that's all I got right now.
Ghostfire, you seem like quite a happening cat with regards to rockabilly and psychobilly, you like Gun Club?

Thank you, and yes I like what I've heard from Gun Club. I don't have any albums or anything but I've heard various songs and such and it was pretty good stuff.

The Vandals.

RIP Ian Curtis 02-19-2006 11:15 PM

Okay, looking for some jazzy punk, ala Television and The Voidoids. Any ideas?

Liebensaft 02-19-2006 11:18 PM

The Minutemen, and Mike Watt. That's some funky shit, there.

RIP Ian Curtis 02-19-2006 11:42 PM

Right on. Mike Watt = Sex. He was almost distracting me from looking at Iggy at the Stooges show. Anything in particular, other the Double Nickels on the Dime of course.

Liebensaft 02-19-2006 11:48 PM

The Minutemen have lots of other stuff besides DNotD, which, unfortunately, I haven't listened to. Nick would probably be able to tell you which out of the rest of their stuff is the best though.

Daniel! 02-20-2006 12:07 AM

Check out fIREHOSE if you haven't already. Gang of Four and NoMeansNo are good jazzy/funky stuff also. The Big Boys too.

Ghostfire3 02-20-2006 12:17 AM

I need to check out The Voidoids. I've only heard good things about them. What album should I get?

Brain Toad 02-20-2006 12:18 AM

For Watt goodness, get one of his solo albums for sure.
There's also fIREHOSE like Daniel mentioned
As for good Minutemen besides DNoTD, check out Paranoid Time (their first ep), Project: Mersh, and The Punch Line
Minuteflag (collob between Minutemen and Black Flag) is also amazing.

Th'Inbred offer a good brand of proggy/jazzy hardcore-punk.

NekroThrax 02-20-2006 10:01 PM

recommend me anything? i listen to different stuff...Nekromantix...Anthrax...Flatliners...Forgotten Rebels...some ska...skacore...political punk...any recomendations would be appreciated

If you like the Nekromantix, I can recommend you some other good Psychobilly. Check out Tiger Army, The Koffin Kats, Demented Are Go!, Mad Sin, and The Meteors.

scarlets_soul 02-21-2006 03:40 AM

Namdrater im into the same music as you and even looking up music plasma and asking mates for new bands, i cant seem to find the title/category of this sound.

Does anyone know a proper classification for bands such as:
Rise against
Strung out
Propaghandi
Thrice
A Wilhelm Scream etc

I assume they are punk hardcore, but there is a huge jump from these bands and say minor threat.

Rather then linking me to 1000's of previous links that i "should have noted before posting" even though ive just signed up today as a member, could someone take sometime to tell me the category and someother bands that may be of interest... not older 80's bands. New stuff.

Thankyou

AIRIC 02-21-2006 10:17 AM

Rise Against are punk/melodic hardcore but more likely just punk.
Strung out are punk/melodic hardcore but more likely just punk.
Propaghandi are punk/thrash
AWS are melodic hardcore
not sure on Thrice

Brain Toad 02-22-2006 11:09 PM

Thrice is post-hardcore I think.

And Griff, to you I recommend Gram Parsons. He is really good country/country rock/alt. country.

Good one fag.

Minuteflag isn't very good, compared to other Black Flag and Minutemen work anyway. Another band that Mike Watt is a member of with a similar sound is Banyan.

I don't see the jazzyness in Th'Inbred.
Okay, looking for some jazzy punk, ala Television and The Voidoids. Any ideas?
Talking Heads, Tom Verlaines solo work, Das Damien, Angst, Slovenly, Tar Babies, DC3, Opal, Saint Vitus and Universal Congress Of.
I need to check out The Voidoids. I've only heard good things about them. What album should I get?
Blank Generation.

Special Brew 02-23-2006 04:11 AM

You guys got any suggestions for ska bands that are real jazzy? I want something with a good swing, not the overly punkish stuff.

A Japanese band callled Merry.

Special Brew 02-23-2006 05:53 AM

The Slackers isn't really what I had in mind. Thanks though.

Maybe it's not only jazz I'm looking for, but punkish swing music. If you've heard that band, Merry, you would know what I'm talking about. They're really jazzy and swingish at times.

dropkickstreetpunk2 02-24-2006 10:29 AM

I've been listening to bands such as:
DRI
Mob 47
Millions of Dead Cops

What other bands are fast and quick like that?

I recommend these bands to anyone:

His Hero Is Gone
Tragedy
Indian Summer
Joshua Fit For Battle
Neil Perry
Stay Gold
Modern Life Is War
Orchid
As The Sun Sets

You should listen to all of those bands.

Excursions 02-24-2006 01:46 PM

Nah.

RetiredAt21 02-24-2006 01:48 PM

Then you're dumb.

Brain Toad 02-24-2006 04:14 PM
I recommend these bands to anyone:

His Hero Is Gone - Meh
Tragedy - Ok
Indian Summer - Good
Joshua Fit For Battle - Decent
Neil Perry - Get's boring
Stay Gold - Good
Modern Life Is War - Decent
Orchid - Good
As The Sun Sets - Don't know

You should listen to all of those bands.
^^^

EDIT: also, just listing a bunch of random bands with no genre explainations or reasons why isn't recommending bands, it's name dropping.
