Hey Jean? What's your MSN? :p
On a more serious note, and please excuse me if this has been asked, but who do you feel has influenced you, both on bass and in writing? |
hey jean, love you work, wondering, do you play anything else besides bass?
I got a electronic drumset recently so I've picking up on that. I can play along with the entire beastie boys "paul's boutique" album. hahaha. uh, I played trumpet in 5th grade, can kinda play the piano (I knew the bach piece on piano before I learned it on bass) and I was trying to learn the cello at one point until the guitarist in my band at the time put it over his shoulder (to play it like a big violin) and snapped the neck from the body. I can't really play guitar but I know a couple of classical guitar songs on it. |
excellent
ps- I just noticed www.putfile.com seems to let you keep files up for aaaages, and I remembered that I emailed you about megaupload.com today. Anyway, good luck finding something for that mario vid.
yeah, I got something like 90,000 visits to my website this weekend because the mario vid was put on another funny haha site (which spreads it to dozens of other sites and blogs) and basically crashed the server. Couple of people mentioned the internet archive so I'm going to look into it... thanks for the tip. |
Jean... how much for your fretless Alembic 6? :D
hahahahahaha |
Jean, what field would you get into if you didn't become a musician?
I think I would sell shoes. (joke from spinal tap). |
hahahahahaha
I guess I should take that as, "I'll never sell it... wanker." Just out of curiosity, I have become a big Alembic fanboy (despite their prices), when did you get that bass? How much did it cost you? How often do you use it/where can I hear you using it? |
1) pac-man 9-string
2) standard 3) lowest G (below b) highest C#... hmm and octave above the b on a guitar? 4) no split pickup. 5) quarter notes, 70% mix, about 5 repeats (I'd have to check) 6) sorry no transcription, I improvise it so it's proably a little different each time.
So that G is below your B string, as in the 1st fret on the F# string? I don't remember hearing a note that low, I will listen to it again though. And the highest note is like the 14th fret, B string on a guitar, so... 20th fret F string on your bass? Looks like I might just barely be able to pull it off, if that's correct. What delay pedal do you use? |
Jean, your my new hero.
Okay video game question Remember Smash Tv? I think im going to make a bass for Smash TV, that would be gnar. Oh, and what kind of basses do you prefer, besides your custom ones?
"I'd buy that for a dollar!" Smash TV was great. I really like the orginal game Robotron 2084 used the same 2 joystick control. I like old fenders (jazz or p). Rickenbackers are kinda fun. MM Stingray. There's a bunch I like.... I'd have more 4, 5-strings but everytime I think of getting one the reality is I would probably not play them enough to justify the $$$ to purchase them. |
BIG MONEY BIG PRIZES I LOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Thanks for answering my question, it made my holloween |
Jean since you're an SNES man, maybe you can get Zsnes(A snes emulator) and we can play some 2 player SNES games on the network.
Hey Jean? What's your MSN? :p
On a more serious note, and please excuse me if this has been asked, but who do you feel has influenced you, both on bass and in writing?
dude, I've had my aim/msn names leak then I get like tons of IMs at once and I can't handle talking to more than 2 people at time (I can barely do that) hahaha... I'm suck at the internet. my basses am cry. influences... I think this has been answered a couple of times. when i was a kid, it was steve harris, cliff burton, geddy lee and doug keyser from watchtower. a little stu hamm, jaco and stanley clarke (but never actually learned any of their music). then about 2 years into it I kinda gave up on bass players and just being influenced by music... the singer of the sundays, philip glass, scores to movies (bernard herrmann, marco beltrami, jerry goldsmith), vivaldi, bach, mozart, schuman, schoenberg, etc. japanese temple music, arabic music, whatever I could get my hands on. |
when you think classical music, is there one specific period you prefer most (baroque, romantic, medievel, etc...)

 Just out of curiosity, I have become a big Alembic fanboy (despite their prices), when did you get that bass? How much did it cost you? How often do you use it/where can I hear you using it?
I got it when I was on tour and did a flip on stage and broke the headstock of my custom 5-string bass.. I didn't have a backup so I had to buy a bass the next day. The alembic was the only decent instrument and it was used. I think it was $800? Around 1997. It used to have frets... (I had them pulled out last year). You can hear it on Nuclear Rabbit's "Intestinal Fortitude" album... I think there are a couple of tracks you can download at www.nuclearrabbit.com |

What delay pedal do you use?
It's the middle right before the bridge... it's probably tough to hear through the myspace player. you might be able to pull it off - you can probably just hit the octave. I have a few delay pedals... I'm pretty sure I used the Boss Twin pedal (gigadelay?) but it might of been the GT6-B. |

do they have a mac version? Pocky & Rocky, Street FIghter II or a little Yoshi's Cookie sounds good. |
Hey Jean, thanks again for doing this, man...we really respect you around here, and we LOVE your Pacman/Joust basses.
:thumb: -Gav |
I love the hideous claw, I've got no idea what Gav is talking about. ;)
when you think classical music, is there one specific period you prefer most (baroque, romantic, medievel, etc...)
I like it all, but I prefer solo or small ensembles to large symphonies. I also can't take Opera too much. It's kinda like country music to me. More than 5 minutes and I;m liable to kill someone. Okay, that's it for now... I'll try to check in more often. Happy halloween. |
^ Happy Halloween, Jean!
Tryxx: I love your mom's hideous claw... >_> <_< >_> ...I met your mom, didn't I? Tell her I said hello and that my girl pants are still comfortable. :D :thumb: -Gav |
I will, tonight. This will be rich.

dude that brought up a lot of memories. Me and my older sister used to play that, and for some reason could never get farther than the begining of the second level. good times |
6 month old thread...

It's ask a pro with Jean Baudin...this is different. :thumb: -Gav |
I just started playing What Would Heman Do? :p
So I showed some arrogant guitarist friends your Bach video and they said "wow! He's reeeeally good!!..... but I bet he's a guitarist!" They then proceeded to rant about "a bass with that many strings is just a guitar though!!" |
