i just get mad becuase lots of people (and you know this) dont know anything beyond Wish You Were Here, Darkside, and The Wall. pink floyd just has way more music then that. some people try to seem hardcore when they arent. i wasnt directing it towards any specific person, but ive read some posts through out the thread and ive seen some pretty halarious replies.
Wow, thats excellent. Maybe they like what they have and just dont want any other FLoyd. Maybe Floyds other stuff doesnt apeal to them. |
w3rd, lunch.
*high-fives* Now, what do you reckon the best song off of Obscured By Clouds is?
*Re High-fives* I really like the way it starts, With Obscured By Clouds, and then I like When You're In a lot. What do you think? |
Why not count Ummagumma?
i dont really consider ummagumma a true full album, it was sorta more of a live album. |
i dont really consider ummagumma a true full album, it was sorta more of a live album.
It had 2 CDs, 1 live, 1 album, how is that not an album...it isn't a 2 CD album, but it is still a full studio album. |

yeah, but what you are missing is that the songs on the album are just noises/sound effects and not actual songs, did you even listen to it? |

Some of them are, but not all of them are. The Narrow way in particular is not only sound effects. Either way though, the noise effects are done artfully and cohesively. Who said music must have drums, guitars, bass, and vocals? Music is art in sound, no more, no less. I don't know why that makes it less musical. |
Ummagumma is a concept album, and I love it for that reasons. I don't try to compare it to a "normal" album.
And I really like the closer Absolutely Curtains, and Obscured By Clouds is a good one as well. |
OMG IM NOT A TR00 FAN CAUSE I LIKE PINK FLOYDS DOSTM - WALL PHASE!??1//!

anyone else think that Pink Floyd created their best music when they all worked together? If you notice, some songs are just credited to Barret, or Gilmour and of course usually Waters, but a lot of their best credit the four main bandmembers (five if barret is still in the band)
take a look at the wall, just about all of the singles released (and the best songs IMO) were credited to Waters and Gilmour, not just Waters. That's why i like DSOTM and Meddle alot, those were the days when they weren't too "cool" too work together for songs. eventually their egos got the best of them. |
True, one of the reason why DSotM is so great is because of how all the instruments work together, watching the DVD you can tell they all had idea for the album.
Teamwork > Power Trip |
i didnt admit to my album count because i purposely didnt count ummagumma. and anyways, i thought getting the album count wrong by one was a pretty little thing to argue over.
But insulting people because they're not "real fans" isn't petty? I'm gonna try and not rip into you, as it seems others have already done their share, but for your own sake, tone down the ego. Where you live you may be some hotshot hardcore Pink Floyd fan, but that doesn't make you the alpha and omega and what constitues a "real" pink floyd fan. Oh, and for the record, I own almost all their albums, have been listening to them for years, love all of it, and Wish You Were Here is my favorite. Does that make me a poser? |

However, according to an interview with David Gilmour, the only song on DSOTM that was a real "team effort" was Time. I think its less to do with all of them actively being involved with the creation, and more to do with being openminded to ideas and constructive criticisms of other members of the band. |
Christ Misty I used to be just like you. But I'm not anymore, thank god :chug:
I feel sorry for you that you just couldn't take the time to read at LEAST 2 pages of this thread and realize that MANY people have already mentioned albums like "Saucerful of Secrets" and "Meddle" countless times. In truth, I have noticed that most people aren't mentioning stuff about DSTOM and The Wall because they're so popular there isnt much to say that nobody already knows. |
Shine on would be an eerie song and the middle part of echoes
Pink Floyd probably has the best guitar player David Gilmour, because he shows you don't have play fast to be good you just gotta have heart. (this is just my opinion) |
I think with Pink Floyd, because they each buzzed with so much energy and musical creativity, it was hard for them to focus on one song in particular.
|
first of all you cant even really consider The Wall a 100% Pink Floyd album, so your basically saying you like roger waters the best.
I do like Waters the best. I consider him the greatest songwritter of all time. And The Wall is a Pink Floyd album. If you have the time, pick up the CD and look at the front label. It is clearly labeled Pink Floyd. Weather Waters was the main creative force or not, it is still labelled a Pink Floyd album and that's what is has gone down as in history. Using your way of thinking, no "Pink Floyd album" can be considered 100% Pink Floyd because in case you didn't notice in NO PINK FLOYD ALBUM is the amount of songwritting devided equally (meaning 25%,25%,25%,25% or 20%,20%,20%,20%,20%). |
I was wonder which album you guys think is better?
Atom Heart Mother or Ummaguma(sp?) I like Floyd alot and have most of their albums what should I buy next? I have Animals WYWH DSOTM The Wall Meddle PATGOD and Saucerful or Secrets. |
Well u seem to have most of their early stuff. maybe youd like something after the wall, like Divison Bell '94, Final Cut '83, or Momentary Lapse of a Reason '86. But then again, most their earlier stuff is usually better in peoples opinions, like Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, or Relics.
For early stuff - ummagumma For Later stuff - Division bell |

Look into the division bell, OBC, and AMLOR as well (in addition to those you listed). My faves of those would be the final cut or the division bell. |
I say The Division Bell. I'm not a big fan of The Final Cut.
|
I have never really liked Pink Floyd, but recently I heard a Floyd song that I enjoyed very much. I am trying to figure out which one it is. I will try to describe it the best I can, but I heard it late last night. It has a lot of piano in the beginning and then some piano throughout the rest of the song. The Main chorus goes "The grass was greener". Oh it also had a pretty nice solo. So can you guys help me figure out which song it is?
|
That would be High Hopes. Its off of The Division bell. Great song.

Thanks. Great song is true. |
Glad to help.

Blegh. The Final Cut sounds to me like the outtakes that weren't good enough to make it onto the wall.

Well when the Tigers broke Free was on the wall. |
Well, in the movie, yeah, but not the album. When The Tigers Broke Free literally is an outtake that didn't make it onto the wall. It became a single, went on the movie, and made it onto The Final Cut eventually, but it didn't cut it for The Wall.
