on dannycarey.org, it mentions that zaum is still around but the other members (any idea who they are??) are busy and so far their schedules haven't co-incided for a few years....
By the way, what do you all think of Pigmy Love Circus?? i downloaded one song (officially from their site) and.....dissapointment.... I know i shouldn't have expected a tool clone, by i was hoping for something experimental at least....the one i got sounded very straight with talk/singing that i just didn't understand. But maybe it was just not the right time for me to listen to that sorta music, it certainly didn't encourage me to download more... interested to hear the thoughts of tool fans |
PLC is only linked to Tool by Danny's presence, it was a band he jammed with during Tool's legal problems between Aenima and Lateralus. The style of music is a lot different, Danny himself has said its a more straightforward job for him to drum for them. they opened for APC on the last tour and recieved mixed reactions, most of the people were just respecting danny.
Zaum still remans a mystery to me, though I do know former Tool bassist Paul d'amour was a part for a while too, not sure if he still is. |

Third Eye solo is something I would lke to sit down and learn one day, but for now I only try and learn the songs I can play all the way through, third eye uses a lot of effect pedals that I could never afford at this curret time
that is true i have this multi effects **** and that works for me i dont know the whole song just the solo i love that one and there is a solo in the patient? |
Not really a solo, more of a well placed riff, near the end of the song. Its the riff he plays a few times while maynard is singing 'must keep reminding myself of this', then he takes it up an octave and adds wah. Solo is a loose term today in any case, I use it to describe a piece of guitar work that sticks out from the rest of the song

lol true man we sent this thread to the dumps cmon back to intelligent ****
|
Alot of the wierd sounds heard in Third Eye, aside from the opening guitar 'solo' are done on bass, not guitar...
Digitech Bass Whammy, Distortion + Delay for the slide part |
Yeah, it seems the style this thread goes, clever, amazing, complaint, random chatter. Like in Prison Sex 'I've come round full circle' on this thread, i hope. But its 1 am now, so i think ill leave clever comments till tommorrow

Digitech Bass Whammy, Distortion + Delay for the slide part
Justin sure can fool people sometimes into thinking that the guitar is playing, not the bass. I know danny uses an effects box too, especialy on merkaba, can anyone tell me what it is? Im not that hot on dannys equipment |
hey everybody, i just heard an amazing song by tool on the radio, ive never really paid attention to them and now i want to get an album. Any suggestions on what album to get
Get Aenima, take about ten deep slow breaths, and listen to Push it. after aenima i would get lateralus, then undertow, then opiate, then the salival. And just for the record, in response to a post i saw a few days ago that i never got around to replying to, I have no idea what lateralus means, not anymore than any of you. i've heard various theories, some relating to a muscle, some relating to sacred geometry, some relating to both of them. so , i dont know! |
Adam Jones is GOD,
Danny uses a combination of electronic triggers 'n' synths: - 6 or 7 Simmons triggers feeding to a Roland MC 505 drum machine...(i think that's how he sets it up) - these are the 'electro tom' sounds on merkaba and elsewhere. - a Korg wave drum: this sits on one of his toms and the sound can be manipulated to within an inch of its life, apparently - fiddly and expensive but exact. i'm not sure exactly where Danny uses this one...(maybe that industrial sound in the Grudge??) - a Handsonic: this synthesises percussion such as bongos, congas and Danny's specialty, tabla. you can hear this in Push!t salival version, the opening passage of eulogy, and reflection/disposition amongst others. I assume Danny records the tabla parts on real tabla in the studio, but live he definately uses the handsonic. The sound I'm most interested in is the pitch-shifting drum in reflection/disposition, i'd love someone to shed some light on that. it sounds like a wierd synth tabla, or perhaps a synth drum with some sort of whammy pedal or automation. whatever it is, i enjoy it! also, anyone have any ideas about maynard's guitar? he uses a headstock-less guitar on Schism when they play it live, and i've seen him play it at the APC gig i went to (can't remember the song)...is it just a cool guitar, or is a synth as well? i'd like to find out... |
Which song? So far ive got the patient, lateralus, flood, H, eulogy and schism. All very illegal, as tool ban filming like other bands. But if they had released the DVD by now, then I wouldnt have to...
I know he did a few shows with the band, performing tabla in their songs, and I was sure this was one. As for Maynards 'guitar' I know what you mean, he plays it on the Noose for APC. Unfortunately, like the man, most of the instruments he plays are shrouded in mystery, but I know he plays a few on different albums, 2 weird ones on thirteenth step, and there is some on lateralus too. If anyone else knows anything, let us know |

http://www.gibson.com/whatsnew/pressrelease/2001/jan31a.html Does it look something like the guitars on the bottom of the page? It might be a roland guitar synth. I've seen someone play one live and it was incredible, but I couldn't read the model and I can't find it on the internet. I thought it was G10. |
Doesnt seem like it, but since the only time i saw it was at a APC concert, I couldnt really make Maynard or the guitar out too well. But thanks for the link, those guitars are interesting to say the least
|
They're cool...they don't go out of tune. Very durable as well. I can't think of too many shredders that used them...Vito Brata from White Lion in the 80's. I think Steve Vai has played with them too.
If I was committed to googling it I'm sure I could find what Maynard used. |
I didn't know that Maynard played guitar on The Noose. Thats cool. I had always wondered if he played any instruments.
|
He plays quite a few, but most of them are quite exotic or unheard of. Im digging around now to find out what they are
|
Ya. It would be interesting to know what they are. I'll look around too.
|
thought i would post this here, havent gotten any replies in the thread i made. If this has been aksed before or is jsut a stupid question im sorry. Is salival a rare album? Cause I can't find it anywhere , and when I do the price is insanely high. I really want it because I love the No Quarter cover and would like to hear the rest of the album.
|
Its a DVD/CD combo, and its VERY rare now
*me has a copy :) The rest of the album is live tracks, unreleased songs and a few other extra 'filler' tracks to suit tool fas needs Tracklist Third Eye (live) part of Me (Live) Pu**** (live and reworked, probably the best tool song IMO) Message to Harry Manback part 2 (more hilarity from the dodgy answering machine message) You Lied (live, cover of Justins old band Peach) Merkaba (live, unreleased) LAMC (Legendary piss taking track) Maynard's Dick (Old song, unreleased) |
oh shit , yeah i was looking on ebay and it was 120 for a used copy and around 300 for a new ( at the cheapest). Is there anyhope of a rerelease?
|
Simply put, no. It was released to be a special edition thing, but plans for another DVD are on the horizon. If you're just after the music though, im afraid that downloading is the only option, if not buying
|
Ya I got Salival on Ebay for 70 bux. Its expensive. Really rare. If you realy want it, they have a lot on ebay. Don't go to amazon, those are way too f.ucking expensive.
|
