wall-e should be required viewing for elementary school students tbh
I haven't actually thought about or debated these topics in a while wow, it's invigorating and depressing at the same time. |
the 3rd world isn't better off than those areas were before the west came along and ruined them
I have a feeling that those areas will catch up with the rest of the world at some point. |
Nah, they won't.
|
I dont think so, the world has had the time and money for a very very long time and nothing significant has changed or progressed. It is quite disgusting really
|
It's possible I guess. As long as the Earth's population doesn't get much bigger than it is now I don't see the world ending anytime soon, and it's been shown that as nations industrialize their populations level off and it seems like at least some steps are being taken towards making industry at large more sustainable so who knows.
(I definitely don't...) I like Linkola's solution: http://corrupt.org/data/files/pentti_linkola scroll down to "Solutions". It's a little whacky but it's like, just crazy enough. |
Progress takes centuries. But yeah, nobody knows, and just because the past few hundred years haven't shown global improvement, doesn't mean that there hasn't been vast improvement of the human condition, and that there won't be improvement for the impoverished.
|
Humans as a whole just use and use until nothing is left, such will be the demise of us in the end...nothing will be left anywhere
|
Yeah, that's why we came up with crop rotation... that's why we sanction off areas of wildlife for preservation... because we use and use until nothing is left.
I mean, ****, if that was true, there'd be no farmland in the world anymore. |
The third world isn't better off than people living in the dark ages?
Well, if you compare the Dark age to a lot of 3rd world countries, odds are the dark age people would have more structure and law in their societies. Probably less hunger too. |
We have gotten better, but it took a while for us to realize the err of our ways
|
if we just go green everything will be ok
|

I mean, ****, if that was true, there'd be no farmland in the world anymore.
Peopleare already fighting over usable water. There's going to be about another billion people on Earth in ~30 years, and where they're going to find drinkable/usable water for all of them is a mystery.
if we just go green everything will be ok
lol I love people with "green" mindsets. They think if you just buy a hybrid or recycle you're actually helping. Nothing will help. |
sup bros, talkin' bout Misanthropy?
Bottom line is I don't hate anyone, I'm selective with the people I talk to and trust. |
going green is a trend that is actually good though.

lol I love people with "green" mindsets. They think if you just buy a hybrid or recycle you're actually helping.
going green is a trend that is actually good though.
It only helps in the short term, really. |
It only helps in the short term, really.
it can't hurt |

I know, I don't think people realize that using energy efficient bulbs and green shopping bags doesn't do anything - the type of damage that needs to be repaired doesn't start with where you throw your trash. no but on a grand scale it won't do anything, it's just there to create the social illusion that you're helping. You know, give you a feeling of empowerment even though 99% of efforts normal citizens are capable of are completely useless. |

It all just leads back to too many people existing. I'm not a misanthropist, but that is the problem. Too many people that consume. |
agree with Ron once again
|
i don't really see how it's useless on a long term scale. if people consider the environment more often because of movements like that, the future could definitely benefit. the point isn't really making things better now, it's forming a better mindset overall.
|
Well yeah, definitely. Most greenists manipulate statistics by saying **** like "over 5 million trashbags are used every second" but it's not as if it's people are just overusing them, that's just the amount of waste that piles up when you're supporting in extraordinary amount of people.
If we want to talk about waste, how 'bout the island of trash that's the size of Texas floating in the ocean? Can't remember where it's at. |
I highly doubt pollution is going to be the downfall of Earth

Well, I think we are talking about two different tings. Being environmentally aware is good. However, a lot of this "go green" stuff is just a fad. People who think that hybrids, reusable shopping bags, and energy efficient light bulbs will stop our devastating consumption are not seeing the problem for the long term. These things just work for short term goals. As long as we are past Earth's carrying capacity (which we passed years ago), no amount of hybrids or light bulbs will really solve anything. |
I highly doubt pollution is going to be the downfall of Earth
no one said it would be. |
In the end, I think things will get to the point where we'll have to revert back to a much simpler lifestyle.
See: the Amish. |
i dig my simple life
|
Its also scary how there will probably be very little Europeans left in 100 years as well.
|
cum in the mouth of god
