I'm not a big fan of deatcore in general, so to me the music has little substance, i.e. enjoyment value.
Understand?
Got it! |
What substance does death metal have as opposed to deathcore? just curious.
Death metal started as alienated youth creating their own morbid reflection of the modern world. It was played with passion and conviction and was actually aiming to express something with its morbidity; in that sense it was artful. Deathcore is more of a social phenomena than an art form; every band writes the same songs over and over for kids to mosh to live. It has no substance because the songs express nothing. |

I see your point, but if you asked most deathcore bands I'm sure they'd feel that they were alienated youth creating a morbid reflection of the modern world and that they play with passion etc. |
I think they'd say something along the lines of "music is just for fun guys, stop taking it so seriously"
which is fine in its own context |
lol death metal songs express something
|
I think they'd say something along the lines of "music is just for fun guys, stop taking it so seriously"

lol shallow minded people.
|
lol death metal songs express something
typical moron response evil/depravity? psychosis/insanity? sorrow? the glory and chaos of war? among so many others... deathcore expresses one thing: TIME TO MOSH |
wow you take music too seriously
i probably love deathmetal more than anyone on this forum so don't bitch at me. |
deathcore expresses one thing: TIME TO MOSH
or not at all. deathcore in general does express this to an extent, but its just like any other genre. people find release in it and get something out of it. if they didn't the genre wouldn't exist. plenty of deathcore bands are passionate about what they write and play, just like any other bands from any other genre. you have people that play it for fun and stuff and then you have people that are truly passionate and get as much out of playing it as people get out of listening to it. so maybe calling someone a moron for having a differing opinion just makes you the narrow-minded one. |

okay, listen to graves of valor, through the eyes of the dead, whitechapel, clone the fragile, knights of the abyss (tons more) etc. its modern styled death metal, i.e. instead of a thrash base, theres a metalcore base. also, your definition of death metal fails. death metal was more what you got when a lot of thrash kids got really drunk and heard grind or wanted to play heavier music. a lot of those kids were into horror movies and horror punk as well. they played "death metal" a genre about rape, murder, zombies, and all kinds of cute things like that. these bands ive listed are influenced by all of the same things, as well as the earlier death metal acts, and genuinely understand death metal and appreciate it, but they also grew up with bands like prayer for cleansing, integrity, converge, etc. to draw influence from as well. and honestly, i've met a lot of these bands at their shows, and a lot of them are really into oldschool dm and zombie movies and like to toke bowls with fans lol and seriously, you've clearly never been to a good deathcore show if you think it's just about moshing |
yeah pretty much. i had a distinct hate for most deathcore bands cuz i thought they were all just a bunch of scenester wannabe death metal heads, but then i got into a lot of really solid and talented (musically and lyrically) deathcore bands recently.

The other ones you listed I don't really get anything out of. I still don't see the vast majority of deathcore as having much worth. Most of it isn't very expressive at all and is obviously written almost explicitly with its audience in mind (ie dance parts, breakdowns etc). |

It's exactly what mappy said (and me earlier with less detail but no one paid any attention haha). You can generalize any genre you want, but there are always exceptions. So until you have listened to every deathcore album out enough to really absorb it (and good luck with that), saying outlandish things like EVERY deathcore band is this or EVERY really whatever band is this just makes you look foolish. |
The End of All Reason anyone?
I've heard 15-30 seconds, pretty solid. got the ep downloaded and waiting to be listened too |
yeah the ep is solid
