Why was that video upload thread a bad idea?
It wasn't great... But it wasn't horrible.

Why did my video upload thread get closed?

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8791304&postcount=6987
To go along with what SFK said (and Ali linked to), videos have been uploaded in the YSI thread. You can feel free to "randomly" upload videos/interviews/etc. there, provided you give a brief explanation and state that it's a random upload, so I don't get confused when I go through to update.

Follow The Reaper 07-20-2005 06:55 PM

I'm glad you reported that, I was about to.

EDIT:The reporting two posts above mine.

EDIT2: Can you ban this guy, he is making bad threads, and is spamming up threads. http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/member.php?u=184506

SonorKen 07-20-2005 07:45 PM
I'm with you on single smiley posts, 123s, "goodbye" posts in the community thread, etc, but I don't see what you mean by the thread types bit. It's only new users and actual trolls (of which there are few) who make threads of the Best, Top 10, Dream Band (and so on) kind - none of the regulars make threads like that because they know they'll be closed or deleted and maybe banned - and we can't really request that people read the rules before we're aware of them being here.
Thats why I asked the regulars, who help out here, to "pass the word around".

Bazarov 07-20-2005 07:47 PM

How would you suggest that we pass the word around? Like when a newbie posts in a thread tell him to read the rules?

SonorKen 07-20-2005 07:48 PM

Yup, exactly. The regulars here do it every day, and it is appreciatted and I personally thank them by repping them.

Spaceace is banned.

Bazarov 07-20-2005 07:49 PM

I see. Well, I guess I'll help spread the word around.

Iai 07-20-2005 08:47 PM

Ken - why not post an announcement about it?

Also, could you make it a rule that 'omg is metal evil liek satan?!1' threads are illegal? Can't speak for anyone else, but they annoy the piss out of me.

I'm sure there'll be a few good threads in Politics re: effects of music on the listener you could link people to in the rules, if they're genuinely interested.

CockeyedMaverik 07-20-2005 09:23 PM

also whats rep?

Mr Herb 07-20-2005 09:36 PM

Post as sticky with a tittle that will draw everyones attention even if its not related and tell off all the new rules there

Bazarov 07-20-2005 09:46 PM
also whats rep?
Rep is something the mods give people. There is negitive rep for if you say something stupid or SPAM or whatever, and there's positive reputation for when you do something constructive. For every thousand rep points you get (I think it's 1000) you get one star under your name. Max you can get is 4. Mods have 5 stars.

And Iai, I agree with you these threads on the evil in Rock and Metal are annoying now, they always post the same exact websites, and there are no new arguments.

dimenwylde22 07-20-2005 10:19 PM

I know all of you people think I am obbsessed with Pantera and I would like to feed my obbsesion by starting a OFFICIAL PANTERA THREAD!!!
Thankyou and please say yes!

Once they hit 1,000, they automatically get 4 stars.

Bazarov 07-20-2005 11:01 PM

Oh, well thanks for giving me the correct information.

There you go, just post all the information you know about Pantera, and make that thread really good. :)

Also, I was wondering if the following posts in illegal threads:
"in before close"
"This is against the rules, as thirty people have already said"
"this is against the rules, but I'm replying anyway"
could be bannable offences? It's just that they needlessly bump the threads. Once one or two people have corrected the threadstarter, there is no need for anyone else to post in the thread.

Close this thread, it should just be in the "Riffs that Smack You With Greatness" thread. I think.

Yeah, I'll start cracking down on that stuff. I won't ban for one usage, but if a user keeps doing it I certainly will.

Those posts are really starting to get on my nerves, and it seems every illegal thread nowadays has plenty of them.

If the thread is something like "Do you like Dredg?" and someone says "Heck yeah man, they rule." It is not spam.

If it's irrelevant and in an arguing manner, yes.

Thats what I meant, if it's irrelevant.

What's the verdict about the poll after Iai's? I had asked a while ago about doing a vocalists one...

SlashHalen 07-22-2005 12:43 AM

not sure if this is the place to ask exactly. but either way. What the funk does Wanker, Wank, Wankery ect. mean exactly? alos the whole pwn thing are these just people who mispell own or waht?

Kingofdudes 07-22-2005 12:51 AM

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pwn

Wank can be used in many ways. Around here, people use it to describe a guitarists that plays with a high amount of skill. They compare their playing to self pleasure aka masturbating aka wanking.

/me fails at explaining

Bartender 07-22-2005 08:58 AM

And yes, pwn is a misspelling of own.

Iai 07-22-2005 10:24 AM

I'm very fond of using the word 'wank' to describe just about anything I don't like. But as Kingofdudes was saying, the real meaning is 'to masturbate (male)'. It's British slang.

Anyone know whether or not Ian's planning to post the full list of the top 100 bassists? I'll hang back my poll until he does.

Bartender 07-22-2005 10:43 AM

Well we have this, which probably signals the end of his polls altogether. If he wants to make out the full list, he can just edit into the opening post of that thread, I suppose.

Kingofdudes 07-22-2005 10:44 AM

I think he said he isnt gonna make a list.

drum4weezer36 07-22-2005 11:48 AM

If nobody is going to do a top 100 r&m drummers poll
I would really like to do it. If that's okay with the mods?

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-22-2005 11:57 AM

You could do it, but first, Iai is doing a modern rock poll, so you have a good 3-4 months to get everything sorted out.

Mr Herb 07-22-2005 11:58 AM

About the best modern rock bands?

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-22-2005 11:59 AM

...Uhh, yes?
