No wonder I never liked black metal.
Do people actually consider that music?

The Brad 10-10-2006 08:05 PM

I do?

User Name 10-10-2006 08:05 PM

It's supposed to be funny.

I think.

So, potentially, I stand to gain a ton of money. Will I die with shrooms growing under me
Nah, you'd have to ingest them to affect you. Watch for mold on them btw. They grow very fast apparently so they'll be ready to sell fairly quickly, best you dry them out too.

The Brad 10-10-2006 08:13 PM

Nah, I am pretty sure they were serious if they were willing to burn churches.

katana_manatee 10-10-2006 08:15 PM

Immortal are not a serious band at all. I know some people in Norway who know a couple of people that met the frontman around his house. He is actually really into health and fitness and is not the least bit black metal or goth like off stage.

So they are actors as well as musicians in a way.

User Name 10-10-2006 08:15 PM

Mayhem is funnier than Immortal because they're serious.

katana_manatee 10-10-2006 08:15 PM
Nah, I am pretty sure they were serious if they were willing to burn churches.
Immortal never did church burnings as far as I know. Now Mayhem on the other hand...

The Brad 10-10-2006 08:18 PM

Yeah I know Immortal wasn't that into the scene, but I was talking about Black Metal as a whole since Akira was asking if people actually listen to that

User Name 10-10-2006 08:20 PM

I can stomach some Black Metal. I only like any kind of metal in 10 minute doses though.

katana_manatee 10-10-2006 08:22 PM
Yeah I know Immortal wasn't that into the scene, but I was talking about Black Metal as a whole since Akira was asking if people actually listen to that
Oh right. Unfortunately a lot of black metallers are into things like church burnings. It is a twisted sub culture of which the music is generated by, rather than a culture stemming from the music.

Basically, Venom came along and a lot of Scandinavians just didn't get the joke and emulated them and developed on it, becoming kvlt and true and all that crap.

Some people like the primal aspect to it. I like the more melodic and complex forms of black metal like Dimmu Borgir and a bit of Emperor.
Immortal never did church burnings as far as I know. Now Mayhem on the other hand...
Yeah, Immortal was actually made up of real men. Two of their newest albums are amazing, IMO.

Mayhem, you are right, was made up of a bunch of asshole who thought it was cool and kvlt to burn churches and such, thus putting a bad name on black metal. Same with Gorgoroth and a few of the other lesser known bands.

Now Emperor, who had a member who killed a man because he was gay, are awesome, it's just that that guy sucked (I think I remember he was drummer, and all he could do was midtempo blast beats). Good riddance to him. The frontman, Ihsahn, however, is a genius who wrote some amazing stuff with Emperor, and even more amazing stuff with Peccatum and several other bands.

Anyways, I don't know where that rant went, I just feel like educating a little.

God damn, music sounds killer through this system.
Especially when it's like a gun pointed at your ear.

Mr. Pickle 10-10-2006 08:24 PM

has anyone been following that mx flag thread?

User Name 10-10-2006 08:25 PM

1349 on the other hand. They work anytime.

Moon Flavor 10-10-2006 08:25 PM

^katana: Most of the black metal scene wasn't that bad at all. It's the same as saying the whole rap scene is made up of hateful people who shoot eachother all day, just because of a few early 90's gang wars. However, I know a lot of you ignorant types will reply with "but the rap scene is that bad lawlol".

meh

BenJammin 10-10-2006 08:26 PM

Sucks to be you.

I know, I know.

The Brad 10-10-2006 08:27 PM

Never heard 1349, but love the story behind the name. Would love to hear some if you are willing to share.

And no Pickle, I come for the casual and stay... because I'm addicted.

Efrim 10-10-2006 08:27 PM

Jesus Ben, you're really into them right now...

I never said most I said a lot of, I guess I just put it the wrong way. I have met a fair few black metallers who condone church burning. On the whole it is much like any music scene but it has its fair-share of nutters too.

Shutup.

They were an important band of my early adolesence. They probably were one of the bands/groups/whatever responsible for turning me on to music in general.

And I love being nostalgic.

The Brad 10-10-2006 08:31 PM

Damn, IR cannot penetrate MDF. :(

Efrim 10-10-2006 08:31 PM

JCS, can you go and request Jandek on etectera for me? I'd request, but since I don't upload....

katana_manatee 10-10-2006 08:31 PM

Nostalgia ftw!

I don't remember which band got me into music....I think it was Bowie. I do remember constantly muttering "I like to watch" in various classes though.

Their drummer rules.

thelowsoundofbass 10-10-2006 08:34 PM

The only black metal that I ever really like was dimmu borger, and they aren't really black anymore. I am more of a fan of melodic/progressive death.
