Hey guys, this site has a couple emo/screamo shirts if anyone's interested. Angel Hair, Swing Kids, The VSS, and some real sweet Yaphet Kotto. They have some white belt/31G stuff if you're into that, as well.

hey guys, I'm trying to educate some (well, one) friend on what real emo is, I'm going to link her to this thread. there was another site that I've seen on these forums before, it was basically a history of emo, starting with, well, when it started in the 80s. I forget what it was called but on the last page it had something about the whitestripes for some reason. can someone link me?

thank you a million times over. I know fourfa isn't entirely accurate but its good for when your starting out

withering_rose 11-15-2005 09:26 PM

what would you guys classify alexisonfire as? I've really been lovin their stuff for the past couple months. I think they're emo or post-hardcore but I'm not sure. anyone else like them?

Wow 11-15-2005 09:36 PM

I haven't heard alexis in forever but if memory serves me right, they're post-hardcore. Either way, they're not emo.

The last page of fourfa is pretty inaccurate. Stick to the first few, don't take it too much to heart and you'll be about right.

yeah, its for a friend and I told her that so she should be ok. I also told her to get an account here XD

SubtleDagger 11-15-2005 09:52 PM

Well, it's good that you're educating someone about it.

StandingStill 11-16-2005 03:03 AM

Yes. I'm a big Mars Volta fan and it bored me to tears. If you love listening to 45 minute improvisations give it a shot, otherwise steer well clear. Basically its 3 tracks stretched out to the point of ridiculous.
I'm going to this by the way: http://www.atpfestival.com/events/line_up.php?event=19

SubtleDagger 11-16-2005 03:24 AM

You seem like one of those people who just doesn't get TMV live.

They improvise to make the songs better, and quite often do.

StandingStill 11-16-2005 04:28 AM

I've seen them a couple of times. Once they were spectacular, once they were boring as hell. I like the way they jumble the songs up and go off on tangents, but I don't really think they've quite got the ability to pull a 30 minute blues/jazz improv. If they were forced to play 5 songs in an hour it'd be great, but the second time I saw them they managed 2 songs in an hour and a 12 minute drum solo.

Sep 11-16-2005 07:02 AM

What are some good 7"/split 7"s to get from 29northrecords?

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-16-2005 12:55 PM

Jimmy Eat World: Emo, right?
They've been growing on me lately, at first I didn't like them but their catchiness is changing my mind.

Sep 11-16-2005 01:00 PM

Nah they're pop-punk/indie.

I really need to pick up Clarity.

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-16-2005 01:11 PM

Oh, ok. I'd heard they were and they weren't, I think. What about Biffy Clyro? I wouldn't have thought they were emo, but I heard they were.
After much soul searching (read: actualy thinking about it) I've realised that I don't really object to emo. There's some crap music, as with any genre, and the fashion looks ridiculous to me, but those aren't reasons to discount it. So what are some good emo bands I should check out, now that I've decided to be open-minded about it? I've heard some Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold (who were emo but aren't anymore?), and I didn't think they were great. My favourite bands right now are Rammstein, QOTSA, Placebo and System, if that helps reccomendations. Sorry if there's already a thread for this and I'm just wasting space in your community thread. Feel free to come spam up the PNWI community thread, it's all we ever do in it:).

Will do:thumb: I think I've read the Wikipedia page before, or at least part of it.
Edit: Fugazi are emo? Or just their earlier stuff?

As far as I know, they are post-hardcore but the early stuff is considered some of the beginning stages of emo.

Right, I'm pretty sure I've only heard their later stuff, and it doesn't sound particularily emo to me. That being said, after reading three of those pages (wikipedia wouldn't load) I'm now three times more confused. What're some good songs or albums I should be able to get fairly easily?

Sep 11-16-2005 02:01 PM

As in to download or to buy?

'Cause in record shops you should easily be able to get the Rites Of Spring discography.
I'm not into the older emo bands too much, except for Indian Summer. Who you definitely need to check out.

Heh.

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-16-2005 02:18 PM

^I was wondering about that too... I'll keep an eye out for those, then. And I'll make my friend Grace, too, she's into a lot of that non-emo stuff.

Axe 11-16-2005 02:20 PM

Is Bullet for my valentine considered scremo?
because they seriously rock.
Hand of blood \m/

Special Brew 11-16-2005 02:21 PM

No. They are metalcore I believe, but I haven't really heard much by them. I haven't listened to them for a long time either.

Axe 11-16-2005 02:22 PM

I think they are good. nice avatar btw Damien.

Sep 11-16-2005 02:22 PM

Yeah metalcore, although I remember hearing one or two songs by them that were really poppy?
