Envy - All the Footprints You've Ever Left Behind and the Fear Expecting Ahead
Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch
Calexico - Hot Rail
The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Strike

Make up for the fact that I bought a new game only to find out that the PS2 isn't working properly to play it this 3 day weekend.

Phish!

- I've been highly addicted to Phish ever since my friend got my in to them this year. But I just got into them after they broke up (which sucks). I did see Trey Anastasio (lead singer of Phish) in concert and that has gotten me hooked on more Phish and his solo stuff more!

I found the title tune in a fake book last night. I was so excited, until I realized that it's kind of tough to play.

Tomahawk 05-23-2005 10:33 AM

I've been digging Mark Lanegan. I got his album Whiskey and the Holy Ghost and it's crazy cool.

Also been digging Afghan Whigs. I got my hands on Congregation, and it's pretty good. Just when you're thinking that they would never cover a song from Jesus Christ Superstar, they go ahead and do just that.

Also been on the Cure and American Music Club and Fleetwood Mac and some other stuff.

Bukowski 05-23-2005 10:57 AM

I'm the only one who voted for Nomeansno's bassist in the competition. Do you think he should have made it?

pixiesfanyo 05-23-2005 02:57 PM

Brian Eno
Sonic Youth
Jaga Jazzist
Marijauna (the drug)

Oh, I got all the music channels back today after months without them, so I sat and watched them for a bit.

The new Foo Fighters single is seriously awesome. The new White Stripes is worryingly good, too.

New Coldplay blows worse than I expected. And Funeral For A Friend have sunk to a new low.

I new the White Stripes new stuff would be good, but the Foos are a surprise. I'd like to hear it.

Iai 05-23-2005 05:24 PM

I'm on Soulseek now if you wanna get it off me.

I'm Iai. With a capital I.

Is it an acousticy one, or a full band one?
The new White Stripes is worryingly good, too.
It better be, they've used a good potential name for their new album.
New Coldplay blows worse than I expected.
I saw them play the new single on TOTP (yeah, boo if you like), and..yeah.

YDload 05-23-2005 05:27 PM

There was a little SOAD live show on MTV late at night. It wasn't bad for a half-hour concert snippet, even though all the songs they showed were from Toxicity except "BYOB."

Fun fact for all other nu-metal bands: you are allowed to move around when onstage! It's nice to see a bit of charisma every once in a while.

Iai 05-23-2005 05:27 PM

Hey man, I watch TOTP every week. Popworld, too.

The Foos song I'm talking about is Best Of You, and it's a full band one. I heard an acoustic one on Jules Holland, though, and that sounded really good too.

pixiesfanyo 05-23-2005 05:30 PM

Foo Fighters last album was decent.

I think there acoustic disc will be great.

I saw the acoustic one on Jools too. I thought the guitar thing it had going throughout it was pretty good, but for the most part the song itself sounded a bit bland. I'm interested in hearing the acoustic disc, though.

Luxor 05-23-2005 07:50 PM

My dad bought Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue and John Coltrane - Blue Train today. So, I'm going to make an attempt to be digging those in the near future.

Zappa 05-23-2005 07:53 PM

They're remarkable and undeniable.

Luxor 05-23-2005 07:58 PM

I've actually been meaning to ask you about some jazz albums, Zappa.

The reason he bought those, was because I was searching through his CD collection looking for jazz. I've been trying to get into it recently, but my selection is lacking. If you had to pick one jazz album/artist, what would be the best for a beginner?

Zappa 05-23-2005 08:21 PM

That's really tough. I think it's unbelievably important for a listener to get to know the work of Ellington and George Gershwin, which is something I neglected for a very long time. It puts the rest of the jazz world into perspective and into a certain context, I feel.

However, the best way to enjoy any style of music is to find things you enjoy by chance and focus on that. What you like is what you like, regardless of how "important" the music is historically, or whatever.

I hope you enjoy Kind of Blue and Blue Train, but I find it hard to fathom not being enthusiastic towards such recordings.
