Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands II (reposted for any interested parties)
http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2J57VLUKPXZXD1DROZI24WV381
I was listening to it this morning. It made me very happy. Thanks a ton for uplaoding it, Vince. :) |
Thanks a ton, Ramsey. I may run out and get this USB thing today, and if not I'll have to get it tomorrow. If I can't do it then I'll let you know, but I'll be too disappointed if that happens. I basically need to get it done in the next three days (crunch time!!!) or else nothing will come of it. :-/
No problem buddy. :) |
Were Opeth ever black metal? I don't have much experience with the really heavy groups, and I'm always getting black metal and death metal confused.
i might have to check into it...i dig tarintino films anyway.
Well he hasn't got that much to do with it really.. I shouldn't imagine it would be much like any of his own films. |

Not really black metal, no. Lost of people (non-extreme metal fans) seem to think so, usually seemingly because death metal is all just brutality and shouting, and could obviously never have any degree of refinement or sophistication. And then black metal is a bit more esoteric, and they know less about it, so maybe their beloved group can retain their credibility by being black metal. Not saying you've been like that :) Just my mini-rant based on my experiences with Opeth fans. |

What are some black metal bands with similar musical sophistication? |
From what my friends who listen to Opeth tell me, they're "Melodic Death Metal".
|
Yeah, I suppose. Boy I really have no experience with this genre then. Hmmm.
|
errr why is there a sudden influx of weird talking breadloaf icons and usertitles that say "So evil, so cold....>:["?

Their roots are in death metal, yeah, and they've just kinda branched into this sprawling behemoth type thing over the years.
Hmmm. What are some black metal bands with similar musical sophistication?
Well, there's a certain breed of black metal fan (probably most represented on MX by Stevie and Emperor) who believe that the idea of "progressive black metal" is a contradiction; that black metal is defined by the feel, the atmosphere, the (anti-Christian, misanthropic) idealogy and so on, and not at all by the sound of the music. I don't subscribe to that view, but I won't go into why here, since that's not what you asked. On MX at least, more people define black metal by the sound, but even then progressive black metal is rare, and often gets so "out there" that it ends up not being black metal at all, but just general avant-garde. That said, bands to check out could include; Arcturus Enslaved Vintersorg Ulver er..more :-/ Bobo and FFDM should be able to fill you with more, as no more are coming to mind for me :) Det_Nosnip should be able to tell you more too, but he doesn't come in here often. He made a thread about it recently, though, so look for that. |
