It basically looks at bands you've already listened to, and recommends similar ones. However, I'm pretty sure the algorithm doesn't check to see if you already listen to the recommendations.

So if you listen to a lot of music from the same genre, you'll get recommended bands that you might already know.

It depends how much you've listened to them. I get rec's for bands that only have about 10-30 plays sometimes.

The obscure recommendations aren't usually [I]that[/I] obscure.

summoning, drudkh, burzum, ulver's bm stuff, alcest is the only stuff I listen to regularly but I'll listen to vinterriket, paysage d'hiver, darkspace type stuff occasionally. I haven't listened to like true basilisk type stuff in forever

you could say that, I just got kind of bored with constantly looking for something that didn't exist. the BM scene couldn't provide me with what I wanted anymore so I look towards other genres and I got what I wanted. I still enjoy BM its just not my preferred genre anymore. I still have a BM band with a friend of mine and we still plan on releasing an album sometime. I still really enjoy the bands that were my favourites from when I got started getting interested to when I started losing interest like Burzum, Drudkh, Summoning etc. the same thing happened with me an viking/folk save a handful of bands I just really don't care about the bands I used to love.

Make sense. I guess the same happened to me with Folk/Viking, but to a lesser extent(if that made any sense). I stopped looking for new bands, as I'm just...100% satisfied with the stuff I do have from the genre, that and I don't feel a need or motivation to get more or to disect the genre. I go back to the stuff that I first got into.

Though, do you see yourself ever coming back to how you were with bm ?

tbh every "black metal" band you listed pretty much is crap, Basilisk is alright but pretty boring.
