Deathcrush is a good entrance into it though (speaking from experience), and it is top-of-the-line for sure.
|
Heaven Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered would be a good entrance methinks, if we're gonna go that route come hell or high water.
|
I really doubt throwing him into Burzum or Mayhem immediately will get him into BM.
Well, if he doesn't like that it's obvious he won't like it. |
Ehhh, not really and if he were to go for Marduk, Opus Nocturne would be better anyway.
Well, if he doesn't like that it's obvious he won't like it.
Truth, that's basic fundamental BM. |
I got in through Marduk, so I think it's worth a try. I wouldn't recommend Akitsa, way too much niche appeal to be a good entrance band.
|
Well La Grande Infamie is probably the best release in five or so years, though I see where you're coming from.
|
As long as he doesn't start with Panzer Division or some crap like that.
|
Well I'll be giving some of this stuff a try. I've just been trying to get into some new stuff recently, and I see this is generally one of the more active threads on the forum, but it is a genre I've never really been able to get into in the past. Well that is true for a lot of sub genres of metal. Generally most of the metal stuff I'm into has hardcore roots, like Converge, Rifles At Recess, Darkest Hour etc...

Or Behemoth.
Or BRA's band lol
Well I'll be giving some of this stuff a try.
That was uncalled for.
I wasn't trying to be mean, I'm just saying you're not the fucking epytome of Black Metal, I'm sorry. I'm sorry because you're not a good Black Metal starting band. :( |

I'm sorry because you're not a good Black Metal starting band. :(
A comment you make quite often accompianied by a "lol" is not what I classify as not trying to take a jab. Sorry. ///end discussion. |
Well, thus far, I have previewed tracks from Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, and Marduk. I like the epic factor that Dimmu Borgir has. Marduk just feels like a punch in the face. Definitely have to be in the right mood to listen to that. I heard to tracks off of Deathcrush and I wasn't really diggin tbh. The quality just seemed really subpar. Don't mean to commit an BM faux paus there, since I don't really know that much about it, but I couldn't get into it.
|
But I lol a lot! =(
The quality just seemed really subpar.
Again, almost a clause to most "good" black metal: The quality isn't very good when compared to other crisp kind of productions. Like say, Timbaland. |

I told you all. Why don't you let me handle the newbies from now on? AM: Dimmu and Old Man's Child are probably your best bets at this point in time. Everything else will be a bit aggressive for some time; it will take some getting used to. |
NO BRA BECAUSE WHEN YOU START WITH DUMB BANDS LIKE DIMMU OR OLD MAN'S CHILD YOUR PERCEPTION IS DEEPLY CORRUPTED BY SISSY-PANTSERY AND ALL THAT GAY SHIT
*sigh* Anyway, FE Born for Burning is OK but not exactly the groove I was talking about. I was thinking funk grooves in black metal |
Yeah well some people don't get hardcore idk
Yeah, I don't get it's appeal whatsoever.
I told you all. Why don't you let me handle the newbies from now on? AM: Dimmu and Old Man's Child are probably your best bets at this point in time.
I was thinking funk grooves in black metal
Then it wouldn't be black metal anymore. It's be some avant-garde something or other. I don't know. |
No, Tojes, the rest of you are so far immersed in black metal that you've forgotten what the more accessible, melodic black/blackened death sounds like to new listeners. It's more enjoyable than true BM. You can't really expect a complete newbie to jump straight into Vlad Tepes or Burzum.
And this was a prime example, and I was correct. You just can't handle the fact that BRA might know how to handle a situation. |
To cite a pretty basic example, I was thinkin more like groove in the sense that Pantera has a "groove".
Anyways, it's 3 in morning, and all this stuff is pretty intense for this hour. I guess I have a pretty good starting point, and I will start disecting at a later date. Thanks all. edit: This track I found called Dawn of a New Age by Satyricon is pretty rockin. And lets not get into the whole arguement about what is really black metal. Maybe it takes an outside obvserver to say this, but I'm guessing bands like Dimmu Borgir are more black metal than a lot of stuff out there, so if its a stepping stone, then whats the problem? |
Yeah, I don't get it's appeal whatsoever.
