Dr. Jake Destructo 02-04-2007 10:40 PM

Yeah okay, so you can be an inside man too.

So uhh..bleep bloop is the task force. ****

And for the record, there are about 3 people who like Dragonforce. Get the facts bro.

Sweet, I am like the white Denzel Washington.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-04-2007 10:55 PM

Actually that was intended for Elim, sorry d00d.

You can be an outside man if you so wish though.

So that would be like a white..Reggie Miller.

Hedgedive 02-04-2007 10:56 PM

I would say raid them but there's like 800 of them and yeah.

Dragonforce is coming here soon and some of my friends have tickets and they're all "OMG DRAGONFORCE HAVE YOU HEARD OF THEM?? THEY ARE SOOOO FAST" as if they're something obscure that only they listen to.

that tactic is reserved for indie fags, not metal fags.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-04-2007 11:01 PM

I would beat my friends with a large textbook if they started liking DragonForce.

all my textbooks are small :upset:

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-04-2007 11:05 PM

I have an unreturned Alg. II book that could knock out an NFL linebacker. It's epic. I'd definitely only use it if they really really liked DragonForce. :p

one of them likes Dragonforce AND Norma Jean. I'm sry but I don't think you have a big enough textbook for that kind of situation.

asdf 02-04-2007 11:11 PM

I have friends that listen to dragonforce. I have plenty of friends that listen to sub par music, but they generally make up for it by also liking decent stuff. I'm not really friends with anyone that I can't find common ground with musically.

perriwinkle 02-04-2007 11:24 PM

yeah i have friends who listen to dragonforce

it's alright, it's not their fault theyre stupid

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-04-2007 11:43 PM

All the good music my friends are into are bands that I've gotten them into. I recently got a pair of my best friends into Clann Zu.

bleep_bloop 02-04-2007 11:47 PM

i got my friends into GY!BE, The Mountain Goats, Cut Chemist, and some others

perriwinkle 02-04-2007 11:48 PM

we are mavens

Zappa 02-05-2007 12:50 AM

I tried to get my friends into "good" music in like 9th grade and then I stopped patronizing people and let them be.

pixiesfanyo 02-05-2007 12:52 AM

I usually just let my friends listen to whatever.

perriwinkle 02-05-2007 12:52 AM

there are always bands that people who listen to crappy music would like, and will help them on their journey to listening to not-crappy music

Zappa 02-05-2007 12:54 AM

Why is what they like "wrong?"

Why fuck with someone who is perfectly happy with what they're listening to?

perriwinkle 02-05-2007 12:59 AM

youre getting me wrong a little bit

its not getting them to stop listening to what they do

its introducing them to stuff that they will also like

the journey from crappy to non crappy metaphor was a joke, i think people tend to talk about music as if it's objective and that there are definitive good and bad artists and genres, and i was making fun of that

Zappa 02-05-2007 01:03 AM

It's one thing to share music with a friend that you're reasonably sure they'll like, based on what else they're into. It's another to try to convert people with whatever crap you like, regardless of it's relation to what the person is already listening to.

perriwinkle 02-05-2007 01:07 AM

yea that is true

rule of thumb:

be not the dick

bleep_bloop 02-05-2007 01:11 AM

usually it gets spread to my other friends through my friend jack: he wants me to give him new music, so i give him stuff like gy!be and mountain goats, etc.

pixiesfanyo 02-05-2007 01:15 AM

perriwinkle every time you post i hate you even more.

asdf 02-05-2007 01:16 AM

I only share music with friends that I think they would be generally interested in based on their usual listenings. All of my friends do this for one another. None of it is really "hey, I'm being a dick and forcing this music on you" it's more "hey, here's a cool band I think you'd like. tell me what you think of it."

PsychoTronn 02-05-2007 01:19 AM

what you think is the best music ever someone else could find irritating and vise versa

pulseczar 02-05-2007 01:20 AM

One time I tried to get my Top 40 loving friend to get into some of the music i like. After failing with Sonic Youth, Manic Street Preachers, and the Pumpkins, I gave up and put on the Pixies for background music and we moved on to something else. One minute into Debaser, he says "Hey who are these guys? They're good." I say, "Pixies, I didn't think you'd like them because of the vocals." He says, "Oh I don't care about vocals, it just has to be catchy as hell!" The moral is sometimes you just have to let it come naturally when it comes to introducing new music... and everyone loves the Pixies.

I know, which is why I don't arbitrarily recomend music. When one of my friends asked me to recomend her music like two years ago she listened to Primus, MSI, System of a down, so I gave her Mr. Bungle, thinking that would be suitable.

Now she loves Leo Kottke, the Mountain Goats, and Gershwin, none of which is by my recomendation.

br3ad_man 02-05-2007 01:48 AM

Hardly any of my friends listen to music I like. I don't really try to get them into anything, unless I want them to come to a show with me because it's almost always a waste of time.
