i got powerslave the other day. excellent album :) Aces high just blew me away. After listening to the newer albums ( BNW and DoD ) it made me wanna go and listen to the older stuff a wee bit more like notb and pom.

YDload 01-12-2005 06:54 PM

New Question: What is Iron Maiden's cheesiest song? I say "Quest For Fire," but I haven't heard that much from their later years.

ForiegnPenguin 01-12-2005 07:10 PM

No such thing.

Riva 01-12-2005 11:29 PM

So, has anyone noticed that the riff just before and after the solo in "Infinite Dreams" is very similar to that of "Montsegur"?

And the cheesiest has to be "Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter"

I dont like the clansman or angel and the gambler album versions though the single of the latter was shortened and better...

Happy birthday Eddie!!!
The Clansman is performed really well by Bruce. Does anyone think that Man On the Edge sounds a bit similiar to Be Quick Or Be Dead?

Powerslave is Maiden's best album. It totally kicks *** in every way that an album can kick ***. Everything before Powerslave kicks *** as well although their first album is kind of punky but still good. Live after death and Somewhere in time are pretty good. After that, Maiden really went downhill. Most of their songs sound like they're just phoning it in and collecting a paycheck. Yeah, there are some good tunes here and there, but there's a *lot* of crap. Brave New World wasn't too bad and I've only heard one song off of DoD, but it was pretty lame.

As to the cheesiest Maiden songs, I'm gonna have to say either Holy Smoke or Can I Play with Madness.
the arch enemy version is good, apparently metallica did a cover of remember tommorow and run to the hills at a festival somewhere
Dudes i really cant stand people taking other people's songs and doining a cover verson from it. It just sucks that they cant think up of their own stuff to do. And well loads of maiden songs have cover versions of them. It just well sucks. :upset:

opeth_oasis 01-13-2005 02:45 AM

Cheesiest Song Is Virus For Sure!!

opeth_oasis 01-13-2005 02:49 AM

i can't stand covers much either, unless they do a really good job on it, like Opeths cover of Remember Tommorrow or Jeff Buckley's Cover on Hallelujah. But then you get bands who all they can do is cover other people's music, Jimmy Barnes=Big Example

Lord Abortion 01-13-2005 04:11 AM

there are several albums devoted to this slave to the power and tribute to the beast -there are several of these albums
try Iced earth's tribute to the gods with fantastic covers of hallowed be thy name and NOTB
and cradle's hallowed be thy name is very interesting with added synth effects
taking the song in a new direction

ashman 01-13-2005 05:08 AM

*wanders back into thread after 2 days absence*

Cheesiest maiden song: Can I play with Madness, Bruces little "Too blind to seeeeeee...MMMMM..." Kinda Tina Turner like lol.

Thunder Fingers 01-13-2005 05:12 AM
That song is a great song. One of my favorites.

I like the Paul Dianno Maiden better then the Dickenson Maiden.
I notice alot of older Maiden fans feel this way, I'm 30 and I still prefer Dickinson over Dianno, never really got into Killers as much as the other albums with Bruce at the helm. Although I also notice that people who prefer Dianno with Maiden also prefer Dio with Sabbath over Ozzy. Which I still dont, however I have come to appreciate Dio with Sabbath much more with time.

Josh 01-13-2005 06:52 AM

di'anno was good, but there was no way he could have kept going with the sh*t he was doing. 40 cigarettes a day or something he was on when he left i think.
also i'll listen to sabbath with dio or ozzy, same as i'll listen to maiden with bruce or paul. havnt heard much of blaze's stuff though.

eddie - how old now?

LiZZySkYnRd7^ 01-13-2005 06:59 AM

Hmm, that's all fine and dandy, but whats your bias...which do you prefer, if you had to choose...in both instances.

Thunder Fingers 01-13-2005 08:12 AM

Madcap. 01-13-2005 12:31 PM

Didn't Di'anno get the chop for acoholism ???

Thunder Fingers 01-13-2005 12:53 PM

That's pretty funny. I love all Sabbath, but Ozzy is always gonna be my fav. I really like the Dio Sabbath too, but I love the Dio Rainbow.

Weird how that works out eh?

Piece of Mind is my favorite Maiden album as a whole though. To Tame a Land still blows me away.

The Dianno stuff is more raw and diverse to me. They bounced around some different styles and did it well I thought. When Bruce came onboard he certainly had the vocal range, but they kinda stuck themselves in a rut of similar sounding songs in some regards.

ashman 01-13-2005 01:00 PM

Dianno looks completely different now...

DBoons Ghost 01-13-2005 01:00 PM

You know, Dianno did get back into music after some time with a band called Paul Dianno's Battlezone. They were not very good though.

lol............hes much bigger now, much bigger,

I saw a CD in Virgin the other day called Dianno, and it was just Maiden songs that he remade with his new band

supreme maidenite: He is indeed...LARGER.

Stevie 01-13-2005 01:26 PM

When I first saw the *new* Dianno I couldn't tell it was him. He looks like a beefy American Football player.

supreme maidenite 01-13-2005 01:30 PM

i saw him on the early days dvd and bloody hell, i thought it was someone else until the caption saying 'paul dianno' appeared on the screen. he looks like one of those hip hop/rap people/ people who go macdonalds alot lol
