I think Hallowed Be Thy Name is amazing, I'm extremely impressed by all of this.

im alsways impressed with dream theater a guy from berklee is going to be preping my 14yo friend for berklee and hes supposedly jammed with wylde, laiho yngwie and petrucci. Its crazy that hes only 14 and being preped for college hes a great guitarist though he just needs to do more styles he likes zakk a little too much but i got him into COB and hes been doing needled 24/7 and sixpounder.

Hallowed Be Thy Name by Cradle of Filth is amazing.

Shattered_Future 09-22-2005 02:23 PM
This Number of the Beast cover is amazing! Every song is a great remake, Labrie does a decent job, and Petruccis tone blows Dave and Adrian's out of the water. Gangland is hilarious!!! It's jazz for gods sake!!
The band does quite good on Hallowed Be Thy Name, but are you tone deaf? LaBrie sounds AWFUL on that track. He CANNOT do Bruce at ALL. It's hilariously bad...

The CoF cover wasn't half bad. I liked how they made it more like the live version...they sped it up a bit.

repcak 09-22-2005 04:58 PM

The new CoB is out now and nobody is discussing it... as far as i see/read.
what are your opinions on "Are you dead, yet?".

cause i don't know what do think, when i wanna be serious.... should i say its horrible or masterpiece. on the one hand their songs are very complex but where the hell is the old good power metal? they got soo... progressive!?
and there isn't a song that kicka$$

IheartSP 09-22-2005 05:01 PM

I meant LaBrie was good for a cover. I think he sometimes hits some Bruce notes but sometimes sounds bad. It's hard to impersonate someone like that, he doesn't fail as miserably as you say.

Repcak I hate AYDY if you are curious.

Think outside the box. :) Don't think, "how good of a power metal album is this?", because that will make you hate it. Obviously this is not power metal, so comparing it to Hatebreeder or FtR doesn't really do it justice. Instead, just think, "how good of a heavy metal album is this?". I think if you do, you'll take notice of the creativity and great writing that went into the album. In Your Face scared the hell out of me when I first heard it, but I've come to accept and even love the new style.

repcak 09-22-2005 05:12 PM

yeah.
thats it. i wanted to have a next hatebreeder, but on HCDR their style was changing and so on their new record... its not the old CoB anymore, its something new.
it is an awesome recording, these guys have a lot of talent; i only haven't listened to the record too often, so i still have no opinion on it... but i am sure, i will love it in the end. how said: their songs are more complex now and you have to listen more carefull to get the whole effect... :thumb:

You're right, these guys do have a whole bunch of talent. They just aren't using it to their full potential like they used to.

Shattered_Future 09-22-2005 06:14 PM

One of the only gripes i have with Are You Dead Yet?, besides that Bodom's music is really boring for me now (ALL of it), is every song starts on a C chord...

alphamonkey 09-22-2005 07:12 PM

My friend sent him some comment thingy on his myspace (i'm almost sure it's really Alexi, but who knows) since I don't have one. He told him to make albums that sounded the way they used to and Alexi said he'd take it into consideration.

i like the new song i like hatecrew deathroll better though.

You're right. Bands that play in the same key for a whole album takes away from it's cool factor. Changing keys keeps the album going and doesn't make all the songs sound the same.

Shadows 09-22-2005 07:16 PM

I think the variation used with the drums/guitar/keyboards keeps it from sounding repetitive from song to song.

Thor 09-22-2005 07:24 PM
I think the variation used with the drums/guitar/keyboards keeps it from sounding repetitive from song to song.
Well sometimes Bodom uses these the same as well.

Drums - really fast double bass
Guitar - shred solos in every song that sound alike
Keyboards - incredibly fast solos that sound alike

These happen in pretty much every Bodom song.

PsychoticFlubber 09-22-2005 07:29 PM

Does anyone know when exactly "Are You Dead Yet?" will be released in the United States? I have been waiting so patiently like the rest of you, but my patience is so short. I am only half excited. Unlike the rest of you, my favorite album is completely "Hate Crew Deathroll". I am just scared to see how much CoB has changed from that. I think it really blows that Alexi has tuned EVERYTHING to dropped-C, but maybe I will accept it and just hope he goes back to 1 step down. I hope this album is still as complex as HCDR...

Thor 09-22-2005 07:30 PM

^^^
October 23rd. Mark your calendar.

Tons of people on here have leaked versions of it already, including me.

He tuned to drop C for most all of HCDR.

Dude, that statement was so broad it could apply to nearly every metal band.

PsychoticFlubber 09-22-2005 07:35 PM

$hiT... I don't know if I have that kind of patience. Nope. I don't. But I have to wait. I refuse to download that cd, I prefer owning it and supporting CoB.

PsychoticFlubber 09-22-2005 07:36 PM
He tuned to drop C for most all of HCDR.
Nope. The only songs he did dropped-C for I believe are just "Angels Don't Kill" and "Sixpounder".

Shadows 09-22-2005 07:38 PM

Hmmm...looking at tabs, you seem to be right. Regardless, the tuning shouldn't have any influence on what you think of the album. It's how he uses it that counts.

PsychoticFlubber 09-22-2005 07:42 PM

Sure, I know. I just keep thinking about all of the other bands that use dropped tunings. Most just are so careless of what they play. I just hope Alexi doesn't start playing strictly heavy open chords, or just stupid things like Daron of SOAD plays. But, I know Alexi wouldn't do that. I must only hope it sounds as awsome as HCDR.

IheartSP 09-22-2005 07:56 PM

I think all the riffs on the album are stupidly heavy and all sound extremely alike cause they are just basic drop C riffs.

Matas 09-22-2005 08:19 PM

whoever said Kalmah started in 1999, you're wrong... they were around way before that but they were called Ancestor, it had the two Kokko brothers in it just like Kalmah today. I believe they started in 1991 from what i remember

about AYDY, when is it released in Canada? same as the states? cause if thats the case it'll be a long month :s
Also, I find it funny how many people are shocked by this ''new style''. i mean its obvious you could see it coming in HatecrewDeathroll... that album alone is a completely different style than their earlier ones, and then they toured with ''metal'' bands like Lamb of God (lol) and Fear Factory... now with Trivium... i just find that pretty sad. at least they're touring with Amon Amarth, which is actually a metal band. anyway, the point is that its been obvious since hcdr that they were heading in a completely new direction.

as for the album itself... i heard Bastards of Bodom, and its pretty kick ***. so is Trashed Lost and Strungout, and If you want peace prepare for war

Shadows 09-22-2005 08:20 PM

Kalmah started in 1991, but they were death metal back then. They didn't go power metal until many years afterward.
But, I know Alexi wouldn't do that. I must only hope it sounds as awsome as HCDR.
Just think Sixpounder type stuff with less lead guitar (except the solos) and tons more keyboard use.
