The difference between traditional and brilliant is pretty much inaudible. Chances are if they sound different it's just because any two cymbals will have at least subtle differences and doesn't necessarily reflect the finish.
only crash with a half inch dimension is the 18.5" chad smith sig crash. never heard of anything else that comes in a half inch size
Theres a 20.5" chad smith crash too.

Question for the aussie people that have bought cymbals overseas, what shop/internet site did you buy them off?

440561 01-08-2007 10:34 AM

Ok, I got a set of Paiste 101's (hats, ride and crash) for my birthday in March last year. Now I want something better lol. I also have another crash which is made by Paiste and its a Stambul (vintage)

So I have a few questions:

*How much could I sell the Stambul for?

*What should I upgrade next? (i.e. ride, crash or hats) I'm thinking crash is a good idea firstly.

*And what should I buy? I play Rock, to be honest lol that's about it. Although a cymbal that is good in various types of music (mainly Rock/Punk/Classic sorta rock, anything really)

I'm not wanting to spend a huge amount, I know, I should save and spend LOADS of money on one pro cymbal... No, I don't wanna blow £200 on a crash, I'll be honest!

Please help!

Im in the UK by the way.

440561 01-08-2007 10:47 AM

Also, I could sell my hats for £35, my crash for £35 and my ride for £40, easy if I can find someone who wants to buy them.

Edit: Im looking at some now and I wondered, what do you think of Stagg's Dual Hammered Range?

And what about Paiste PST 3 or PST 5?

Cheers

I'm looking for a dry ride, preferrably made by Sabian, 20". I like the sound of the 21" Raw Bell Dry Ride, but i don't like the size of it and i don't like the Raw bell. I'm also looking for a pair of Dark Hi-hats, preferrably 14", made by Sabian too. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

drummguy731 01-08-2007 06:25 PM

Poo on Sabian, K Dry Ride or Hybrid, and 14" K Hats!

Little Android Man 01-08-2007 06:57 PM

Although i disagree with drummguy on his Sabian comment, i do agree with him on his choices. The K dry ride and the K dark hats fit your discription (except the sabian part)

and maybe you should try out both the k dry ride and the (AA or HH?) dry bell ride, side by side, and compare them, and see how they really match up. It isnt the brand that matters remeber, its the sound..

Massmusic is your best bet mate.

Randy_Orton1 01-08-2007 07:50 PM

lol, i said i prefer Sabian because they are generally cheaper =P. I'm not the rich kind =(

Little Android Man 01-08-2007 07:58 PM

well the only one that would fit you description Sabian better than the K dry ride($290) would be the AA dry bell ($220). then there is the HH dry bell ($320), but thats definately out of your price range if you dont wanna spend alot. and for the hats.. i say K dark hats are just the way to go, no matter what. youre gunna have to dish out some dough every once in a while for drums, just remember that.

Well thanks for the help...

Stagg's DHs and SHs are hit and miss. I personally don't like their heavier weighted stuff [medium and up] but their thin stuff is nice if you hand-select it.

PST-3s aren't worth touching. PST-5s are a fine intermediate-level cymbal; they are the same alloy as 2002s. I'm tempted to buy a set of PST-5s and send them to Johan to modify into jazz stuff.

440561 01-09-2007 11:08 AM

Ive found a stagg DH 14" china (£30) and 16" crash (£40) so do you think these would be worth getting?

Or should I go with paiste? (Most likely PST3)

gimp fest 01-09-2007 11:33 AM

hi i'm looking for new hi hats, i play b*s at the minute but im looking for pro quality cymbals. I play in an indie band and a grindcore/thrash band too, i'm not fussed about brands or anything.

any ideas?

440561 01-09-2007 12:10 PM

How much do you have to spend?

gimp fest 01-09-2007 12:47 PM

PST-3s are horrible and clunky.

Try before you buy with DHs.

Little Android Man 01-09-2007 05:43 PM

paragons =)

actually, they arent glassy in the least bit, but you should try them out, who knows, you might like em.

AA or AAX china and AAX splash. great cymbals. definitely try before you buy though.

i'm pretty sure theres an AAX pack available with an 18" china and a 10" splash.

Snarz 01-13-2007 09:02 AM

Can you reccomend me a crash please?

I would like a crash in brilliant finish, dark and jazzy yet powerful and would stand up to some rock.Short sustain.Decay?

raz0r 01-13-2007 10:32 AM
Almost double his price range there aaron.
I'd hardly call £271.65 almost double £200.
Even the 15" ones are under £300.

Drum Phil 01-13-2007 10:42 AM

Really? :-/ Ah well. I coulda sworn they were bout £390 last time i looked.

ant_182 01-13-2007 11:12 AM

Hey, I'm after a new ride to replace a ZXT. I will be using it as a crash/ride, Zildjian Prefered (due to priceing bing cheaper) unless you can offer thesame thing for the same price. I lke the A Sweet Ride, but wondered if there is anything else I should check out. Thanks :)

Drum Phil 01-13-2007 11:23 AM

K Hybrid?

[/cliche]

Perhaps a 20" K Crash/ride?

Mirror.Circuit 01-13-2007 11:58 AM

Sweet Rides are very crashable,i don't know about the K Hybrids crashing ability though.
Depends on what kind of sound you want the ride to have.
Pingy,or washy?
