Yet it still managed to win a grammy
It is quite simply awful.

ghettoeddo 11-29-2005 06:03 PM

isnt' this a DT thread?

well, just to conform and jump on the bandwagon..

metallica was actually one of my favorite bands. and then i found dream theater. i don't think i've listened to a full metallica album or even song all the way through in months...

if anyone's got info on this new DVD for release, holler cuz im sure all of us would like to get our filthy hands on this sure-to-be gem :]

ghettoeddo 11-29-2005 06:06 PM

and a question...

8vm is the only album they used an actual orchestra correct?
i swear there are some parts in songs like 6DOIT (overture especially) and vacant (the cello) where the strings sound authentic. i mean, i know technology is awesome, but no technology can truly emulate the tone and variation in vibrato speed/color.

GenuineImitation 11-29-2005 06:11 PM

I love early Metallica stuff, including the black album. I think their newer stuff is ok, but not great. Escpecially St. Anger.

Anyone know where I can get a non-SFAM shirt?

I'll have to Ebay it...

bwnstl 11-29-2005 07:49 PM
the thing is, not even the biggest metallica fanboys thought that st. anger was good :p
Actually, the album was fantastic except for one GLARING thing that ruined the entire album and everything good about it: the production quality. Otherwise it was a solid release.

www.infinity1.com has another DT shirt. They have a small DT shirt collection though.
Come on...Puppets is nowhere near as good as Kill 'em All...
Ride The Lightning > No Life 'Til Leather > Kill 'em All > Master ...

But they're all equally amazing albums ...

I know a real cellist is used on Vacant. I'm not sure about when a full orchestra has been used, but I have a feeling there could also be one on Finally Free.

When I checked on Ebay, there were quite a few TOT tour shirts. And some I&W shirts...nice.

6doit uses an actual orchestra too, it was conducted by mr. Ruddes.
and the Cello on vacant is authentical too.

and of course can't forget the sax on Another Day (not an orchestra but still awesome)

I always pictured it as a woman playing the sax but it was a bloke.

clarinets have a lower sound.

Jev 11-30-2005 10:59 AM

It says in the booklet Saxaphone on Another Day played by some dude. Not exact wording.

Lord Abortion 11-30-2005 12:43 PM

Bugger, I just lent mine out to a Mate, in an attempt to get him to love DT, so I can't check.

scenesfromatheater 11-30-2005 04:08 PM

He better like 'em ...or else...

Lord Abortion 11-30-2005 04:11 PM

Tell him yourself, he's Shadow_Stalker on here...

Jev 11-30-2005 04:11 PM

ghettoeddo 12-01-2005 01:52 AM

Lord Abortion 12-01-2005 04:08 AM

I'm getting a 20GB creative Zen for Christmas, DT will be one of the first things on there :D

Jev 12-01-2005 09:21 AM

I need an MP3 player. The last one I got angry at and broke.

P.S. Thanks for the rep Ollie.
clarinets have a lower sound.
No they don't they are higher than saxaphones.

The guy who plays it is called Berlinger or something I think.

i swear they don't...

depends on what type of sax you're talking about though. alto saxs have a much higher sound than clarinets

scenesfromatheater 12-01-2005 04:32 PM

Suprano, alto, tenor, baritone...who gives a jefferys anyway?
