Did you guys know that at 5:51 of "In the Name of God" the keyboard part is playing a sentence in morse code. It means: eat my *** and balls. I'm serious! I says it here:

Yeah, I checked out DT Faq before. What surprised me was the I&W song meanings.
Like:
PMU is about Hamlet
Another Day is about John's dad's cancer
Take The Time is about getting signed on a new label
Learning to Live is about AIDS
also I was surprised that the Silent Man's about Arabian Nights :-/ I thought it was about God.

I love Octavarium so much.
The intro is amazing.
I just listened to ACOS and then this.
Oh my.

ACOS > 8V. The pre-Ruddess era was amazing. I prefer everything before Ruddess, even though SFAM is awsome.

You change your opinions of DT every week.

My thing is this: don't make me compare. Right now, I can't stop listening to 'Awake,' but since my first DT experience was 'Octavarium,' it's probably my favorite.

Inkstar 03-05-2006 04:34 AM

Hey all. Signed up to the forums today, and am a MASSIVE DT fan.

I play drums and have Pornoy idolised at the moment. I can play most of the songs from SfaM.

Favourite album would be SfAM, but in my opinion after that everything's just gone downhill. SdoIT wasn't too bad, ToT was a pretty good listen but didn't seem typical DT style, and Octavarium just sucked goat testicles. Honestly, what the hell happened?

Lord Abortion 03-05-2006 06:17 AM

Nothing happened, it's just the band went in a new direction for some things. The ballads from the new album are great, but the heavier songs (Sacrificed sons, Panic attack etc.) weren't excellent. The title track is superb too.
TOT is one of my favourite DT albums, so...

I have a feeling DT will make something closer to older albums for the next one. It's just a feeling I have.

Hahaha..."Pornoy"

Jev 03-05-2006 09:02 AM

I don't think they went downhill at all. I enjoy the later albums as much as I do for the earlier. Obviously, some are better than others.

I love everything in Sacrificed Sons until it gets to the instrumental section. I don't get it. They make a song with some of the nicest and saddest melodies of their careers and then completely take all emotion out of it with the instrumental section. I could criticize the lyrics too, but I'm sure it's been done before in this thread.

Jev 03-05-2006 09:13 AM

I thought Take Away My Pain was very good at conveying John's sadness. It's about his dad dying but sounds quite happy.

YouGottaBeCrazy 03-05-2006 09:14 AM

yeah

imho, I think they realized they are getting older and want to play all this crazy **** before they start getting all arthritic and ****.

Me neither, it would have been one thing to have an instrumental part that had a purpose, but instead they to the cliche dt circus music stuff. Something sounding a little more like LTE may have been better. I agree the lyrics are horrble, and they've been getting that way on a regular basis for a while now.

Nah, I think they're already arthritic. They just probably wanted to do it because they never had before.

The thing I always liked about Awake was that the songs never got out of control. The solos were limited but they had a purpose. I'd much rather hear that beautiful 2nd solo in "Lie" than a guitar/keyboard duel for 4 minutes.

Amen. Like that bit in This dying Soul. What purpose does that serve?

YouGottaBeCrazy 03-05-2006 09:50 AM
Amen. Like that bit in This dying Soul. What purpose does that serve?
Yeah. I'm not saying any of their jams aren't cool. There is that one really special guitar line in "Octavarium" that is so beautiful sounding. You know the one. It starts out as acoustic by itself and then the keyboards start doing it. It's great. But then the part right after that is absolute ****. So, I don't know, their soloing is a mixed bag for me. It's not the biggest complaint I have with them, but let's just leave it that, okay?

Maybe so but I think music like "Disappear" would've suited it much better.

Have fun man! DT is only 5 days away for me....

Shattered_Future 03-05-2006 06:48 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing them again, but I don't really feel like paying 50 bucks for crappy as hell seats...

ghettoeddo 03-05-2006 08:31 PM

aw nuts. im sick.
aw nuts. im sick.
So, still go see them. try and vomit on the band.

nowitzki 03-06-2006 03:21 AM

DT can cure any illness.

Lord Abortion 03-06-2006 10:04 AM

Don't miss them just because you're ill.

Jev 03-06-2006 10:20 AM

Yeah, if I missed them 'cos I was sick, I'd never forget myself.

guitarist.kid 03-06-2006 05:33 PM

I'm curious because several people around me talk about the formation of each member of dream theater??? what do they have exactly(music formation).

ghettoeddo 03-06-2006 07:10 PM

1 guitarrist, 1 keyboardist, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, 1 vocalist.

Awesome man. I'm missing out on the Arizona show but will be seeing them March 10th in Hollywood.

DT had such a great show, except they mixed it too loud, vocals didnt stand out enough etc etc, from my experience.

Shattered_Future 03-06-2006 07:58 PM

They were absolutely extremely loud, with a few mix problems in the beginning when I saw them. It cleared around the middle...

Petrucci 03-06-2006 10:43 PM

I'm going to see Dream Theater this Thursday and Friday!!!

and it's amazing how JP can create sounds that sound like more than one guitar at once.

Lord Abortion 03-07-2006 10:44 AM

Yeah, why the hell would they need 2 guitarists when they have him??

Jev 03-07-2006 10:55 AM

When I first heard DT I thought JP sang too. I was like " He's awesome*!"

*well, even if he doesn't sing, he still is.

GenuineImitation 03-07-2006 03:12 PM
Yeah, why the hell would they need 2 guitarists when they have him??
What is its something like a Petrucci/Loomis combo. Imagine how sick that would be.

I can't wait for April 1st. I haven't gotten a good nights sleep since I bought the tickets. I stay up thinking about it.

Shattered_Future 03-07-2006 03:21 PM

That would be weird as hell...Loomis seems a lot more virtuoistic in his riffage, while Petrucci just shreds the crap out of his *** on his solos.

Doesn't Petrucci do backing live? I thought I saw him do some...he was decent enough.
