It isn't actually that dangerous. I've been reading up about it a fair bit and it all seems pretty safe if you know what you're doing.
I did it when I was younger... and simply put. It was a mistake. All ive got to show for it are a few messy black dots on my arm. Anyway the whole point (Well sort of) with DIY is to avoid buying from massive companys such as Wal-Mart. Tattoo shops are genrally independent and small anyway.. meaning its a good thing to support them. Making your own gun will proably end up costing more, hurting more and giving you skin cancer more. I bet you would end up buying the ink and componants from somewhere like Wal-Mart anyhow. |
hah! my diy tat looks alright, it is only a small anarchy sign on my palm though

Pics? |
A couple of my friends tattooed themselves last summer. Seems perfectly fine, although I don't think they did a very good job. They only did simple stuff, though.
I do DIY stuff for the purpose of profit. Make tie-dye, buttons, patches etc. Now that's great. Things that people can obviously make themselves, I sell to them.
How much would you sell a shirt for. Do you determine it by the amount of work, how many layers, amount of letterings or what?? Im thinking most likely a flat rate of 5-10$(US). |
How do you make the holes?
For the bowl, insert a spoon and twist, then use the handle of the spoon to punch out a stem. It's an apple, so anything would work. You could take a bite out for the bowl and jam a pencil through to the other side.

And I can make a tattoo gun with parts from home for free. Chances are I wouldn't even have to leave the house to get stuff for it, so it would be much cheaper than going to a tattoo shop... I'll let you all know how it turns out. It's not going to be anything big, really small near my foot to try it out. |
my dads friend died of cancer from a diy tatoo. Its a dumb idea and isnt really saving all that much money.

I rarely sell any stenciled stuff just because of the sheer amount of work that can go into it. Coustom shirts/patches are pretty difficult, and I usually only do them as gifts for friends. |
Really? A friend of mine does shirts and patches in bulk and sells them for £5 and £1.50, respectively.

Silkscreened? Likely, I'm just lazy. |
Silkscreened.
|
Silkscreened.
Well that's different then stenciling. It's much easier to mass-produce. |

Yeah, but I hated learning how to do it. |

The apple trick haha. Never turns out good cause nobody I know ever takes the time to make one. I'm working on a shirt now, I'll post pics when it's finished. |
Pics?
mail me a camera and ill takes some |
Yeah, but I hated learning how to do it.
cleaning up is a bitch, especially if you use photo emulsion stuff. |
Cleaning the oil-based paint off the screen is hell. That's why I don't do it much.
|
mail me a camera and ill takes some
Alright, deal. What's your adress? |
i can't find a good photo of bob barker to make a stencil out of and it is pissing me off. i have been trying to do this for ****ing months the only image i like has a grain to it so it is driving me crazy i am going to try one more time

Watch out, that dude is a convicted paedophile. |
this is a skateboard i made with chuck berry on it
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/pointless5448/Picture013.jpg
Excellent stencil work mate! |
Wo BCT, I didn't see that. That's ****ing awesome. Chuck Berry is the man.
|
you should see what hes making now.
|
cleaning up is a bitch, especially if you use photo emulsion stuff.
No way man, If you use the Speedball photo emulsion remover, and do it like the instructions say, it comes off EXTREMELY easily :D |
Well...I lost that stuff so...
If I had a camera I'd take pictures of stuff I've been working on. I made a messenger bag the other day, and I fixed a bike I got for $15 and it's working order. I tried to make fortune cookies but the recipe didn't work at all so I got discouraged and gave up... |
BCTs latest project:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/pointless5448/IMG_0545.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/pointless5448/IMG_0546.jpg its a picture of our friend jeff. hes in some big local band and they have these really funny pictures of them on their website so brett made a stencil of jeff. he cut it and i sprayed it. we tried using that spray on fabric paint and it didnt turn out too well. there was so much underspray and it just wasnt good. spraypaint is where its at. |
That looks pretty damn cool.

What kind of paper did you use for the stencil? |
yeah its the cheap kind too. it works well but it fades after a while.
and brett used a folder. one of those manilla or whatever its called folders. folders, posterboard, whatever is slightly thicker than paper works. i just made a spiderman shirt for my friend. ill post pics tomorow. |
that chuck berry stencil was amazing. nice job. :thumb:
im cant really think of another stencil to make. i was going to do a ramones stencil but the only one i can find is the eagle, and personally i hate that thing. None of the songs are very good to make in to a stencil its self. i was thinkin bout a shirt with a pole and street sign that has 53rd & 3rd. thats sounds like a ****ty idea though. what do you guys think? o also on side note, not DIY, i went to a concert saturday(29) and the ringing hasnt faded like it normally does, do u think it permanent?? im startin to get kinda worried. |
i love it when my ears ring
A teenager getting a lobotomy or with a lobotomy scar would be cool.
Has anyone got a Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders or Plasmatics stencil that they could pretty please upload/link me to?

The show wasnt good if your ears don't ring. Seriously though, my ears don't stop ringing until about a week after the show usually. |
Someone, quick, suggest a natural diy herbal remedy for ringing ears!
I heartily endorse the freezer paper method of making stencils. I did quite a few patches a couple nights ago, and it works real well. The only downside I can see about it is that it's a one shot deal. Other than that, though, it's great - the stencils are transparent, easy to cut, and they don't leak. Does anyone here do bike work? I recently bought an old Peugeot (circa 1977) and have been fixing it up. I've gotten it to a point where I'm real happy with it, and I've only spent about 75 $ total. Everything runs smoothly, it looks pretty sharp, and I can keep up with those stupid spandex bike jocks no problem. |

that's usually a sign that your hearing won't last you past the age of 30. |
I am totally fine with that.
