So you can hear those bastards creeping up behind you in stalker?

I love those speakers. They're awesome.

Anyone wanna see more stuff in my house? I'm bored. Here's a list:

TV
Fishtank
Toolbox
DVD shelf
Book shelf
Gun stuff
Card/Board games
Fireplace
Bathroom storage
Storage Cupboard
PC

I'll post whatever, then you post. I wanna see everyones stuff.
wires on the speakers aren't long enough to put them in the back of the room, so I would end up with a row of speakers next to my computer, eliminating any advantages of 5.1

AG 04-18-2010 01:36 PM

Ahh, k.

A have a set of 5.1 Logitechs that are similar to those. The RCA cables weren't very long at all so I just got 2 female/female RCA couplers and some longer cables for the back 2 speakers.

AG 04-18-2010 04:05 PM

The wires on mine are really long. Like 10m.
I also like how the iPhone can't play half the videos on youtube that I want to watch. It sounds dumb, but the GPS thing really gets me. That I can't use songs on the iphone as ringtones, that the camera takes two years to load, and another few things are minor complaints. The GPS not working 1/4th as well as the one on my Blackberry that I bought for $50 two years ago, an issue with hardware more than software probably, is a big thing to me.
Hack it and you can probably use anything as a ring tone

Left Face Down 04-18-2010 05:02 PM

If I keep it maybe I'll hack it. I mean, Apple has like a one year limited warranty or w/e that comes with it. Other than that, you can't buy a protection plan through AT&T or Apple for it. So I really have no warranty to void. One of the reasons I bought the Otter Box Defender as a case for the thing. Crazy videos of crazy people dropping their iPhone out their second story window on to concrete and that thing didn't miss a beat; just a few scratches on the Otter box defender case.

guys I'd like to learn guitar, are there any good online sites or youtube people that are good? Also what books would you guys recommend? I'm looking into getting a cheap college kid for lessons hopefully, but until then I'll try and teach myself.

Thanks

To be honest I just found tabs to songs that I liked and played them when I first started. It takes a lot of patience to be a theory buff, i.e. "the right way", but then again I also played trumpet for 7 years in school so I knew it to an extent already. I use www.911tabs.com to find tabs for the most part now a days. Miss the days of old before the darn Government shut down a lot of sites like MX.

If anything the Guitar Grimoire series of books are good for just an over-load of information. I have a Scales & Modes book [GT1] as well as Chords & Voicings [GT2] book from them. I believe there are three in total, but they are great reference books. There is no way you will/need to memories these books. They open with 20~ pages or so worth of explanation of how to read the book and the subject which they are on. Then there are around 170 pages worth of what the book is on. I'd reckon just the scales book has over 300 different scales in it shown in full and broken down into shapes.

Past that, and maybe I can find and link you what I'm talking about, I actually like to watch Paul Gilbert little instructional videos. He is actually a pretty good guitar teacher and while a lot of his stuff is too advanced for some one just starting. He does have some techniques that if you can cement them in your practice routine will probably help you over the long run.

Probably two you can implement rather quickly in to a practice:

Rhythm

Alternate picking/how PG holds his pick

You can probably find a scale reference web site. Just a google and a quick skim of a few sites and this one seems decent for just getting scales:

how to play guitar well enough to write stuff (and understand as opposed to just hitting notes randomly, hoping that the next note sounds good following the previous, etc.) rather than just doing covers.

I know basic theory from drums but can't read melodic sheet music or anything. I know hardly anything about guitar either.

dont rely on tabs though man, youll kick your own ass later on in your guitar life, well that is if you dont get too caught up in sherd/meturhl

Left Face Down 04-19-2010 04:51 PM

He'll probably quickly realize that 85% of tabs are crap now a days. I really do miss the days of MX and tab sites every where. I assume you're referring to being able to learn a song by ear when talking about kicking your own ass later. If he practices the scales, learns how to recognize them by sound for the most part; it makes learning a song by ear a lot easier.

It is a case of do what I say not what I do. Theory is great, I just never had the patience to become a BIG theory buff. I know like 3 or 4 scales by heart, can play along with a metronome, and past that I hardly try to learn songs by ear. As the songs are either mainly power chords, i.e. too easy, or me trying to tab out a Paul Gilbert song, i.e. too hard/long.

...sadly does impress the ladies when they are listening to crap music and you figure out the power chords on the spot. Though it really takes little skill.

Kuffuffled 04-19-2010 06:47 PM

Good tabs are in power tab / guitar pro.. any other random txt tab is most likely garb

SgtBaker 04-19-2010 07:24 PM

I'm not really looking to play covers and such, I'd rather be able to create original stuff

mnemonic 04-19-2010 07:24 PM

back when i used tabs i always used the text ones, i didn't discover powertab/guitarpro until after i stopped using tabs.

kinda sucks, i wish i knew about powertab/guitarpro back when i started playing, would have been much nicer.

not what i was thinkin but your right about that as well. im talking more about the fact that tabs have a 'gated' feel to them, when using standard notation your looking more at music and less at guitar.
