Dissection was mandatory listening back when you were getting into extreme metal, you're getting them a bit late haha.
I remember that the guitar solos kinda were lame and interfered with the atmosphere on the newer stuff. NP: Dub Buk |
I don't get black metal
|
Yea, I got The Somberlain and The Past is Alive (Early Mischief).
I've been busy getting other bands. My list is a mile long. Sue me. |

What's not to get?
|
I just got a bunch of new albums from Nachtfalke, Winds of Torment, Necromantia, Catamenia, Nightkarnation, older Old Man's Child, Vlad Tepes, Wintersun, Behexen, old Bethlehem, Dissection, and Inquisition.
Should keep me busy for a while. |
Wintersun is insanely good though not black metal at all.
NP: Vordven - Harness of Heaven (recommended for Summoning Fans!) |

I just don't get what people like about it. I'm into certain types of metal. I dig the insensity. I like the groove that some bands have.
|
I'm really enjoying Nachtfalke....what don't you like about them?
@Fatal |
Most people generally like the atmosphere, as ambiguous as that may sound.
|
I'm really enjoying Nachtfalke....what don't you like about them?
@Fatal
I don't know. They're generic I guess. I've heard it all before. |
Meh, their hobbitish tracks like feathers fell (I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT TITLE SO FORGIVE ANY LITTLE ERROR) and such from the somberlain are kind of awesome
|
I don't know. They're generic I guess.
I've heard it all before.
It's incredibly hard to do something in the genre that has never been done before, methinks. That's my biggest roadblock...and probably why my newer stuff is deemed as "too generic". That's why a lot of bands will never become popular. |

People who like metal just do, there's nothing to understand about it. I like it because it's aggressive. |

I thought if I put breakdowns in BM, that would be original, but that didn't fly  |

What about groove in black metal? |

Wells what are some good, more accessible black metal bands? |
Wells what are some good, more accessible black metal bands?
Try Satyricon, Rotting Christ, old Dimmu Borgir, and Old Man's Child for starters. Just don't expect to be welcomed into the BM community by listening to that stuff. |
I thought if I put breakdowns in BM, that would be original, but that didn't fly
Yeah, that's just gay
What about groove in black metal?
Go listen Born for Burning by Bathory, that's got some groove, while being vicious.
Try Satyricon, Rotting Christ, old Dimmu Borgir, and Old Man's Child for starters. Just don't expect to be welcomed into the BM community by listening to that stuff.
None of those are Black Metal. Well early Satyricon and Rotting Christ are, but the rest nooooooo.
Wells what are some good, more accessible black metal bands?
Black metal isn't supposed to be accessible |
It's starter BM material though.
And you don't like symphonic, so of course you don't like it. It's the only decent start for him though, really. Otherwise he'll never learn to appreciate real BM. Besides, stfu. I like those bands :p |
Mayhem - Deathcrush
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Akitsa - La Grandie Infamie I'd give all those a shot. |
Mayhem (Deathcrush)
Burzum (Hvis Lyset Tar Oss Darkthrone (A Blaze in the Northern Sky) Akitsa (La Grandie Infamie) I'd give all those a shot.
I really doubt throwing him into Burzum or Mayhem immediately will get him into BM. |
Bathory and Venom is where he should start.
Maybe In the Sign of Evil too or some Hellhammer. |
Wells what are some good, more accessible black metal bands?
Unfortunately the curve towards accessibility in black metal goes steeper as it approaches the better material, mostly because usually (although not a necessary requirement) it's awfully produced (when compared to other genres), but for the most part, I think good, accessible bands are Bathory (Bathory, Hammerheart, Under the Sign of the Black Mark is OK but nothing especial) Burzum (Filosofem, Det Som Engang Var) Drudkh (they're ok but some don't like the "suicidal" tendency of their lyrical department, check Blood on our Wells) Gorgoroth (Under the Sign of Hell is fucking brilliant) Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas I think that's good, basic, approachable. |
I love how we all rush to get our say in how to raise a new BM fan.
I stand by Rotting Christ and Satyricon for beginner's material, as well as the original Stormblast from Dimmu Borgir.. |
The point of recommending bands isn't to further their listening necessarily. Early Mayhem is top-of-the-line perfect black metal, and whether it's a solid introduction to the genre isn't relevant.
