Thanks, that was a lot more insightful than I had expected.

No problem.

Today:

The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday
- Lyrically interesting, but the music falls short. Most of it's energetic but doesn't quite have enough hooks to maintain interest. Certain tracks show real promise, but too many don't feel as if they go anywhere. I'm slightly disappointed with this...

Luxor 05-17-2005 08:18 PM

Right now I'm listening to Neutral Milk Hotel.

Next, I'll most likely listen to some Velvet Underground. I was just playing Sweet Jane on the guitar for about 10 minutes straight for some reason, and it made me want to listen to them.

I like the new SOAD album. It's different than any of their old albums, but their older albums are different from each other too.

Zesty Mordant 05-18-2005 12:43 AM

I just picked up the new SOAD album today as well, and I have to say that its pretty quality material. I just wish that is wasn't so short. As well, it seems like a very Daron-dominated project, not that there's anythning particularly wrong with (though his vocals can be a little grating upon first listen).

Nonetheless great album, "Radio/Video" and "Old School Hollywood" are my favorites so far.

Bucho 05-18-2005 01:24 AM

dEUS' album Worst Case Scenario. It's aged really well for something concieved and executed in the mid 90s and even though it isn't balls out or anything it sounds awesome really fricken loud.

Also been looking at Songs For The Deaf in a new light recently and noticing Nick Oliveri's straighter (e.g. vox on Gonna Leave You and Another Love Song) contributions a lot more. It's easy for the maniac side of his performance to overshadow the fact that his singing voice is cool and holds a pop tune as well as a madman's howl.

And Tom Waits is never far away. Moving to Mule Variations sure makes the supermarket mission way better. Grabbing the trolley and picking off the fruit and veg aisles to Big In Japan, Get Behind The Mule makes you feel almost lucky to be cruising the muesli bars and canned fish instead of working on a chain gang, and What's He Building? gives you the heebie jeebies just as you pull up to the butchery.

There's only one Tom Waits

Keane, Bloc Party, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Mono, and Envy have all been getting pretty heavy rotation lately. Same with that new Gorillaz song.

Holyed 05-18-2005 09:04 AM

Maximo Park, Hot Hot Heat (with the new album,) The Arcade Fire, The Rakes, The Magic Numbers, Bonar Law, Nine Black Alps and Yeti.

I also pirated Wu-Tang Clan's Iron Flag yesterday, so I have a feeling that I'll be listening to that quite a bit.

talk show host 05-19-2005 04:03 PM

I heard the new Gorillaz album earlier and was pleasantly surprised.
Also listened to Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People and decided I liked it despite what I previously thought.
And finally, Underworld.

KappaKid17 05-19-2005 04:25 PM

I'm starting to revert back to listening to heavier stuff again, don't really know why. 'Cept I'm really starting to dig Death From Above 1979 and AFI, for the second or third time.

So, that.
