Hey Phil, what are small chinas like?

Snarz 01-05-2007 11:41 AM

Nah just gave up on soulseek and downloaded Limewire Pro.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 11:43 AM

How much are you paying for that?^^^

maniac0796 01-05-2007 11:47 AM

you blatantly use limewire to download limewire pro...

Snarz 01-05-2007 11:48 AM

Snarz 01-05-2007 11:49 AM

Sharp, trashy, quick :)

maniac0796 01-05-2007 12:18 PM

I have this really big urge to give cocaberry + rep for some reason!

double stroke roller 01-05-2007 12:38 PM

Josiah, how far have you gotten in the rhythm and meter book?

trysthedrummer 01-05-2007 12:41 PM

these small chinas interest me..hmm

cool!
Josiah, how far have you gotten in the rhythm and meter book?
haha plain luck I just saw this...

up too section 2, page 55

while i prob could have started moving into that section, the way i am, and like to practice, i like to get everything clean and beautiful before moving on. so i've been really perfecting the material previous to that before delving into that area.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 12:45 PM

Im looking into a small china for my kit. I love the quick little sounds they produce. Can anybody reccomend me one for a budget of around £100?

Josiah 01-05-2007 12:46 PM

*some of the stuff in that book is off the wall. you can't practice with a metronome wich really forces a perfection in knowing the note values/changes.

trysthedrummer 01-05-2007 12:49 PM

Same here. Ive seen the AAX 12" mini for 80 quid.

Istanbul agop traditional.... Anything 16" and under will be around or less than the £100 mark.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 12:54 PM

Yeh im looking into a small 14" china with a short to medium decay and a nice quick trashy sound. I have a budget of about £100 and im going down to only1music before the end on january again to get a jam block (red) and mount so i can let it just sit on the rim of my snare. Im also purchasing a stick holder to hold some sticks and looking into either an 18" crash (unlikely) unless i get some more money from somewhere or a china like stated above.

Any help appreciated. Cheers

Btw: Either meinl or zildjian china's or crashes would be a big bonus because they have big discounts on those brands.

CasB 01-05-2007 12:55 PM

Hmmz, guess I'm going to the pub within an hour. Beer! And women! :D

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 12:58 PM

Nice way of practicing. I use the same approach. I'm just on p.19. alot of good stuff to look forwar to though.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 12:59 PM

Cheers phil. Ill se what they have down there. They mostly stock zildjian, sabian and meinl.

Josiah: Do you have advanced funk study's?

If so how do you find it?

Futuro 01-05-2007 01:03 PM

I was asked by some guys around here to drum in a death metuhl band.

I dont listen to much metal really, but I figure what the hell. As long as I dont have to be some kvlt metuhl fag and where face paint heehee

Josiah 01-05-2007 01:06 PM

Yes, long time ago. It's a great book. Tons of rad grooves, and like many books. It's very easy to just add your own things to the grooves.
Remember, books are tools. The concepts and ideas for you to start from... start, not finish.
Move accents around, add diddles, flams, etc the possibilities become enormous.

Awesome!! Don't rush it. This stuff is no joke difficult and really requires a ton of control over your note values.

Though I'm sure even at this early in the book you are prob thinkin like i was.. "wow, this is a whole different world of rhythm!"

Wich it is, it's really the expansion and advanced level of playing, very few people study this stuff or make it being able to use it in their playing.

So kudo's to you man! One of the few other people I know to work that book.

double stroke roller 01-05-2007 01:13 PM

^16 and 17 took awhile but was well worth the time.

Josiah 01-05-2007 01:16 PM

^those are far beyond where you said you were in the book...

double stroke roller 01-05-2007 01:19 PM

pages 16 and 17 come before 19 or are you refering to super cameron I see haha yeah study 16 and 17 are way beyong where I'm at. I havn't even looked at pages 34 and 35 yet.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 01:20 PM

Jo my book is on order so its on its way pretty soon. Along with syncopation, do you have that one?

Btw i ordered advanced funk studies WITH the 2 cd's.

Josiah 01-05-2007 01:22 PM

^both are excellent, I had syncopation but lost it some time ago. I never ordered a new one out of redudency from books i already have.

doublestrokeroller - the way you said it, was reffering to the rhythmic studies as cameron was.. #16 and 17

my bad

The only person I've ever heard or seen play the more advanced studies in that book, correctly, is chaffee himself and 1 other to-be-not-named drum monster.

I have seen several high end players attempt some of them though.

Janeway 01-05-2007 01:23 PM

I've spent a total of 30 hours in the library this week, and I've noticed that a lot of people go lurk in the back section and rip ass.

the_pure_drummer 01-05-2007 01:30 PM

Im off to bed now guys. Nighty night!

double stroke roller 01-05-2007 01:30 PM

A fellow at my practice space studied with chaffee when he lived out east. He showed me the linear notes from his lessons. He is in his late forties and said the notes where from before chaffee wrote his linear book.
