Yeah his 8 inch tom is insanely thick.

ill see if I can find a pic.

Josiah 09-15-2006 04:29 PM

ya, dc's bubinga's are mighty thick.

maniac0796 09-15-2006 04:48 PM

They must be extremely loud, but have absolutly no resonance at all

We_Love_Lime 09-15-2006 04:59 PM

Hmm...

Can someone explain to me the difference betwean being extremely loud, and having little resonance?

I thought having a lot of resonance contributed ot the tom sound being loud...

?

maniac0796 09-15-2006 05:10 PM

Well, i see it as:

bubinga is a very dense wood which means that it will resonate, but it will be extremely loud, especially in this case of DC, with his thick shells. Now, the thicker the shell, the less it resonantes, and with the smaller size of 8", it is even less likely to resonate.

I see it as higher tunings mean less resonance. And with his already thick tom made out bubinga, it will be extremely loud, high pitched, but not much reso, which means it is a perfect kit for micing.

Also, the only fact i know about him is he uses evans EC2's, so even less reso from them.

Janeway 09-15-2006 05:29 PM

Well, shit.

My car is stuck in the yard. We tried salt under the tires, card board, plastic mats, towing it with a truck, kicking it, having three people pushing it while I floored it. Nothing.

Futuro 09-15-2006 05:38 PM

Modern drummer: You don't believe thinner shells resonate more?

Danny: In the low end it does. But that is why I designed my Sonor kit they way I did. My smaller toms have very thick shells. On my 8 inch tom, the shell is over an inch thick. Then as the drums get larger from 10,14,16, the shells get thinner. That way the bigger drums reverberate and resonate the low end better, but the small drums still cut through.

MD: How thick are your bass drum shells?

DC: 3/8 of an inch, not real thick, but enough to generate a heavy fundamental.

Saw the Red Hot CHili Peppers Last night!!! Great show. THe Mars Volta was backling them up and I must say they were horrible, noone I talked to liked them, was just annoying noises as far as I was concerned. I heard they were better on cd.

stevensonmat2 09-15-2006 06:12 PM

Has theodore left the mars volta yet? If so they could explain the crappiness.

I hear they are godawful live (MArs volta not RHCP) dont they do like 15 minutes of noises before playing a song?

Sucks, because Frances the Mute is one of my favorite albums. And I hear they demolish it live.

My friends told me TMV were great live, but then again, they were incredibly high when they saw them.

I played Resident Evil Zero today. I borrowed it from a friend, because he hated it, and it's a terrible game. I was all wrapped up in a blanket, and didn't feel like getting up, so I just kept playing.

Janeway 09-15-2006 07:06 PM

I'm sleeeeepy.

I have a feeling I'm going to sleep for 16 hours again.

mysticalyeti 09-15-2006 09:12 PM

I saw Mars Volta with RHCP a few years back and... it was my first time hearing them at all. Noise and ****. And really muddy sound. It was pretty meh.

I would say it was personally, if there has been more natives in the area when the majority of the colonists arrived in the Americas, then the outcome could have been very different.
