I read on RYM he left because he got really sick or something.
he was on drugs. it had something to do with that. haha.

easiest poll so far!? more like the hardest.

mccartney, morrison, and bowie all need to go through and right now it looks like only mccartney and bowie will. lame. mccartney's falling behind too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-17-2005 03:26 PM

So I had to write an essay for English yesterday and the topic was about good choices that lead to a person's goal. I chose Dylan going electric as my topic of choice.

I'm going to go see Paul 51 hours from now! :D

Badmoon: Do you have any Tony Rice?

NP: Hummingbird - Wilco

Woodstock 11-17-2005 03:26 PM

It was between McCartney and Bowie for me. But McCartney wins for being more versatile and having a larger range.

Broken Arrow 11-17-2005 04:28 PM
Bloomfield used to be a pianist, but Dylan made him play guitar on the album, I think. That's what I read somewhere, at least.
Al Kooper is the person you might be thinking of.

robo2448 11-17-2005 04:37 PM
Al Kooper is the person you might be thinking of.
Yeah Kooper was a guitarist but played organ on Highway 61 Revisited. Bloomfield was always a guitarist, and played with Paul Butterfield as someone already mentioned. The best part in No Direction Home was Al Kooper talking about how he persuaded Dylan's producer to let him play organ. His imitation of the producer's voice was just hilarious.

I'm going to vote for McCartney or Van Morrison. Probably Van Morrison because he needs it. Bowie has a great voice too, but I prefer those two guys.

thickasabrick 11-17-2005 04:43 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure Dylan said that Bloomfield was the most amazing guitarist he had ever seen, that's why he asked him to be his guitarist (I believe they first played live together for the Newport Folk Festival in '64). I was very surprised when Illmatic mentioned him being a pianist...it totally went against everything I thought I knew about Bloomfield and Dylan.

He is a great guitarist.

Man Van Morrison only has 4 votes

Pathetic. I think I'm going to vote for him. It'll essentially be a wasted vote, but he deserves more respect.

Tony Rice is where it's at.

Hows' your banjo playing coming along Badmoon?

JonG 11-17-2005 05:56 PM

Diamond Dust off of Blow by Blow sounds like an introduction song for a Bond movie.
Roy Orbison has an awesome voice.

Have you seen his 'Black and White Night' concert?
Woah. I thought I was the only person who had that. It's such an awesome live album. I'm so lucky that my parents were huge fans of his and had a ton of his stuff because nowadays it's almost impossible to find.

I guess I can't be the only Roy Orbison fanboy around here anymore.

Mind uploading Beck-Ola?

:)

I've been listening to Mississippi John Hurt lately. :)

I have Wired, Truth, Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop, Blow By Blow and 2 badass bootlegs. Any suggestions on which album to get next? I'm thinking something along the lines of Jeff or Beck-Ola. Has anyone heard "Too Much Monkey Business" by the Yardbirds? Beck's a killer in this song!

With each listen I give Pet Sounds the more and more I'm digging it. Does anyone know what this line in "Sloop John B" means? (<---this song owns all)
This is the worst trip I've ever been on
Thanks Moon. :)

it depends on what kind of beck youo want. jeff is more techno-ey and beck-ola is blues/rock. i really like both and i got jeff for free from work.

i think grace is the most beautiful album ever. but im also a huge fanboy.

You should. It is quite good. He does it like an old performence from the 50's. It's all in Black and White. He's got Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and a few others for his backup band.

I think Rough and Ready is a very underrated Beck album. The lineup was great, and the songs were very soulful. I also have the Jeff Beck Group s/t album that you don't see too much. I haven't listened to it in awhile, but I remember it being pretty good.

JonG 11-18-2005 04:03 PM

I've been listening to Taj Mahal and it's great.

I really need to get Beck-Ola, I've heard so much good stuff about it.

So, I have to admit, I'm kind of enjoying The Madcap Laughs. Not on par with Piper, but its pretty nice.

Edit:
The fact that Kurt Cobain and Anthony Keides have more votes than Van Morrison is sad...

jpj 11-18-2005 04:20 PM

I didn't really like The Madcap Laughs. I still haven't listened to Barrett though.

And I completely agree with your edit.

It might mean a drug trip, because Brian Wilson was a big fan of teh drugz and teh booze back in the day.

Anyone like The Smiths? I love them.
