Sup slowlod.
So last night I went for a run at the school near my house. My psychotic ex actually sent her boyfriend over to get in my face all because I parked my car near where she lives. Twas ****in' hilarious. |
weird
|
It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The guy is quite a bit bigger than me but he stopped 10 feet away and wouldn't come any closer to me while he was running his mouth, he even brought one of his friends as backup. The only reason he had the guts to come over at all is 'cause I'd probably catch a charge if I whipped his ***.
|
I picture you as a moderately sized person, say 5'9 about 145 lbs.
|
6' 155lbs actually but good guess. Although I've weighed 140-145 since like 9th grade but I've gained 10ish pounds over the summer. The other guy is like 6'1 probably 185-200lbs but he's all tris and bis, douchebag has probably never done a proper squat in his life. He just looks like one of those lumbering jackasses who would be slow as hell in a fight lol.
|
Good god 6' 155 have a ****ing sandwich
|
'cause I'd probably catch a charge if I whipped his ***.
wtf? |

|
'cause I'd probably catch a charge if I whipped his ***.
wtf?
I have a black belt in Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo, a judge or jury would take that into consideration and it would probably hurt my case because I'm "fully aware of the damage I can inflict". The myth that black belts have to register their hands and feet as deadly weapons is bullshit, but it's completely relevant in court. |
that's true but if you've been smashing brickwalls for 10 years you could probably hit someone harder than if you've been playing chess
Yeah youre right i forgot how people hone their skills in martial arts by punching brick walls and headbutting blocks of iron
Hilarious.
My sarcasm detector is broken but im gonna assume youre beign serious cause it was an awesome post i have to admit. |

Martial Artists/pro fighters tend to have better reactions than your average yobo, so in reality they have a better survival rate in any situation. But anyways, sup lod? I handed in my notice today. |
Guthrie seriously needs to come out with a new album or something
this this this He's been playing the same damn songs for 4 years |
Martial Artists/pro fighters tend to have better reactions than your average yobo, so in reality they have a better survival rate in any situation.
Hmm, I dunno how true that is. I understand your logic though I don't think it's true. You can't improve your reflexes and reactions; you can become accustomed to particular moves and stances and learn to work with them, but someone throwing a chair at you isnt really the kind of material people cover at Karate lessons. |
I understand that you can't improve your reactions in as much as you can't improve your peripheral vision, hearing, sense of proximity etc, but you can train your reaction to the stimulus.
If someone threw a chair at me, and I saw it in the corner of my eye, I'd probably scream like a girl and get hit by it. |
Yeah thats what I just said, thing is though that people become so ingrained in combat with people trained in the exact same art as them that they'd probably come unstuck against even an untrained opponent (not completely, but a surprising amount).

You can absolutely improve your reflexes and reactions. Throw a punch to the average schmuck's face and he's gonna close his eyes and frantically throw his hands up. A trained fighter will block/parry it and immediately move in with a counter attack without flinching. Throw a low kick and watch the fool drop his head and his hands in the perfect setup for a knee to the face. A complete sucker punch is a different story but if a skilled fighter is aware that there's the possibility of violence he's at an advantage over an unskilled opponent. |
I think you just proved that you're defending yourself from attacks you're trained for
|
Not that I know much about fighting, but maybe the whole reactions thing is more improving anticipation...
Anywho, I'm massively stuck in a songwriting rut. Helpabrothaout? |
I train for every realistic situation a fighter can find himself in, striking, grappling, weapons whatever. There are techniques that have very specific uses and then there are ones that work regardless of the situation.
I understand what you're saying about people only fighting people trained in the same style though. I see it all the time in tournaments where people don't even use their hands. That's why traditional school>mcdojo. |
After 3 months of a constant routine of work-drinks-sleep and repeat, I've added two more activities; classes just started and now I have my own business... I'll have to give up sleeping altogether.
Oh, and an old band reunited =/ I'm going to age in an accelerated way this year |

You've just proved my point; thats not reaction time, thats conditioning. Reaction time and reflexes youre born with. |
im pretty good at the combat scenarios in assassins creed

You honestly believe what I'm conditioning ISN'T my reflexes and reaction time? Lol oh wow. |
