i have just told of a guitarist who said he wouldnt play bass because he likes instruments with a bit of chalinge
Tell him to go learn some bill dickens. By ear. That might 'challenge' him.

peeted 09-12-2004 04:26 AM

i did i made him a list of great bassists allmost a page long

Jamie 09-12-2004 06:51 AM

^^^^ nice one, what an assole.

hehe :) im chuffed! in the last few weeks ive had loads of compliments about my bass playing.

Supposedly im the best in my school now :D

(then again, my schools only other bassists are punk bassists. Not a single one has heard of the likes of primus (unless ive mentioned them), wooten, hamm, (they know jaco because of the total guitar bass special) and many others. They view matt freeman and flea the best in the world. And they judge a bassist if hes good or not from a little fill they might do in a song. like it may just descend through a minor scale quite fast.) ahhhh well :) i like being different.

Im excited about going to college next year! i cant wait! gotta get my gcse's over with first, im planning doing a music course (in bass) and a sound engineering course. I would love a sound engineering modern aprenticeship!

ShelBel 09-12-2004 07:02 AM

I've just read through the last four pages of this thread, and I have to say- it made my head hurt.

So what's everyone up to today? I'm at work (again/still, take your freakin' pick). Need to go out to my car to get the bass... sometime soon... But I am currently feeling peckish, so off to the cafeteria I go.

MORE COFFEE!

Jamie 09-12-2004 07:16 AM

coffee.... tea is where its at! tea with 3 sugars... mmmm....

have fun eating food!

Last night i spend a few hours exploring the wonders of fruity loops. I love it!

Im in the middle of making two songs using it, they are like the prodigy style songs, they are both half done.

Ill post em on my soundclick once finished.

ShelBel 09-12-2004 07:19 AM

With all the talk of fruity loops (seems like I've heard the topic come up a lot in the last few days), I was wondering if anyone here has used GarageBand (part of the new iLife suite from Apple). I saw the keynote address that Steve Jobs gave on it, watched him demo it with John Mayer (yes, that John Mayer!), and was quite frankly blown away.

I want a Mac SO BAD right now- and this program is why. Anybody actually use it yet? Is it as good as it seems?

Wintermute 09-12-2004 08:04 AM

I'd wager that anyone who doesn't like tea has never had a proper cup. It's a very easy thing to get wrong, and most people do. Use of teabags, or boiling water in the same way you would for coffee would ruin it for a start. And

ShelBel 09-12-2004 08:09 AM

I never said I didn't LIKE tea. :D I do like it! I just can't drink the swill the hospital CLAIMS is tea. The coffee- while not exemplary- is at least palatable. :P

Wintermute 09-12-2004 08:10 AM

Ah, ok. Hospital tea is an abomination. It's basically hot grey water. You are excused.

ShelBel 09-12-2004 08:12 AM

Thank you.

Lay_Down_The_Groove 09-12-2004 08:23 AM

Jamie 09-12-2004 08:31 AM

I dont like macs, if i was to get a mac it would be the g5, and i would just stick linux on it :)

so could you explain this new apple thing then?

Im a member of garage bands! havent been on it in ages though...

Did you know theres now an ipod car?!?! its called the iMove and you can just stick your iPod into the panel and stream your music!

e p 09-12-2004 08:44 AM

Seriously, how do you work YIM? I'm so used to AIM, maybe thats's the problem, but I can't even add buddies to my list. Anyone care to help?

JoeDaddio 09-12-2004 08:55 AM
ShelBel where are all these crazy smilies coming from?
http://www.shelbels.com/misc/smilies/Hail.gif I can't find an actual link on her site to the smilies, I think she's just saved them on there so she can link to them herself

ShelBel 09-12-2004 09:17 AM

@ Lay Down the Groove... I have a secret stash. ;)

@ jamie... I know the iPods have cradles you can set them in in your car, which broadcasts to an FM frequency. One of my friends has one and its just sweet! I want an iPod. Re: GarageBand... if you buy a new Mac, it comes automatically with it. It has a HUGE library of instruments/sounds so you can use pre-programmed loops or create your own, you can record your own instrument via a USB interface, and you can even use your computer as an amp (it has vintage tube amp settings, among other things). It's really amazing.

When I was in hospital the doctor gave me some of his own tea :) I don't remember much of it, but the tea was nice

peeted 09-12-2004 09:19 AM

JoeDaddio 09-12-2004 09:22 AM

I think you guys take tea too seriously. But that might just be me.

joe

Left Shoe 09-12-2004 09:24 AM

joe is to beer as they are to tea.

ShelBel 09-12-2004 09:25 AM

@ Joe:

;)

More randomness!

BRB, some clueless old lady at the info desk can't remember how to sign in and forgot her instructions at home... I think its idiot day here at St. Joseph's Medical Center...

JoeDaddio 09-12-2004 09:30 AM

Well I can hardly see how one can compare beer to tea. I mean, c'mon....

And why does everyone on here think I'm a drunk? Has BFAG been telling you guys about my obscene bar tabs? He seems to think I could afford the Aguilar rig of my dreams if I just quit drinking. I say "booooo" to that. Joe is no quitter!

ShelBel 09-12-2004 09:38 AM

Aw crap... gotta run. Interface is down. Allow me to swear violently.

See ya'll on the other side.

Rollo47 09-12-2004 09:38 AM

Well, my brother's in hospital now, he's been diagnosed with diabetes. He's only twelve years old. That makes two from my family (my father has it, too.) Which makes it more and more likely that I'll get it, now. It's rather odd though, they're the two skinniest (and I mean really skinny) in my family.

Ah well.

Foxfire 09-12-2004 09:47 AM

That sucks. :(

I believe I'm going to have high cholesterol (my dad and mom have it, though not necessarily MAJOR) and possibly high blood pressure (my dad has it, as well as a few more on his side).

I'm going to Guitbox Center today.

Noone can take tea too seriously! This is Britain dammit!!!!!!!!!!!
It's rather odd though, they're the two skinniest (and I mean really skinny) in my family.
It stands to reason. Insulin is there to polymerise sugars into fats which are then stored. IF you suffer with diabetes (That is insulin dependant diabetes) then you don't lay down the fat, you pass the sugar out in urine so you would usually be skinny.

I've been told that I might expect it around the age of 30 as my Paternal grandparents both suffered with it although my dad didn't so that could be a good sign

Jamie 09-12-2004 10:10 AM

Diabetes sucks, I was wondering, were all these new things like asthma and diabetes et. around like 200 years ago?

I have a thing where my body isn't very defensive at all to colds... it sucks :(

Foxfire 09-12-2004 10:54 AM

^ I have a disgustingly good immune system.

When my entire family came down with the flu, I was the only one doing stuff around the house.

Espbassor 09-12-2004 10:55 AM

^^ Me too, it sucks. I just became a good actor and faked being sick a lot.

Hmm..I need a head for my 4x10 cab, it looks so bored :upset:

Foxfire 09-12-2004 10:57 AM

I hate this song, Stomping Grounds.

It makes me wish I could play banjo, bass, and saxophone at the same time. :upset:

Jamie 09-12-2004 11:12 AM

^^^ :D

what do people think of les claypool and the frog brigade? (i think up on the roof is a brilliant song)

and what are colonel claypool and a bucket of bernie brains like? (awesome name!)

esp, you could always give it to me, it'll have loadsa friends here! ;)

Espbassor 09-12-2004 11:13 AM

^^ Nah, I'll take care of her when I get a head. :thumb:

ShelBel 09-12-2004 11:15 AM

Foxfire 09-12-2004 11:16 AM

Let's listen to some FoxKwash, the Epifreaks, and the Tele-Funkist.

ShelBel 09-12-2004 11:17 AM

Man I feel old and out of touch... I have no idea who any of those are.

Foxfire 09-12-2004 11:18 AM

The creation of an extremely slow MX night.

:upset:

ShelBel 09-12-2004 11:19 AM

See? I was asleep. Old, and out of touch. ;)
