I think some people might miss out on classics like those if they are overly particular. Because most bands that pioneer a genre of music aren't going to be all super progressive right off the bat.

it has nothing to do with progressive, it has everything to do with boring. slayer have a few good songs but they ruin it with shitty solos and shitty vocals, then they re-record it for a decade straight.

krisiun is just boring and plain. nothing stands out at all.

cannibal corpse have their moments, (ie im listening to Necrosadistic Warning) but overall they're lame and boring.

Vile and Kill (Bloodthirst isnt too bad) are the only Cannibal albums worth having in my opinion. I might be a little biased for the fact I cant stand Chris Barnes vocals at all.

I listened to Behemoths new album today...couldve done better on the mixing of the album, but its ok I guess
