Vortigon 04-14-2006 02:14 PM

I'm loving Cryonic Temple at the moment.

Lord Abortion 04-14-2006 02:55 PM

I quite like Firewind I must say.

Stoic 04-14-2006 03:16 PM

Exit Wound, the guy thanks to whom I read the Silmarillion in order to appreciate NIME better :)

Cryonic Temple and StormWarrior might be what you're looking for...

Apocalyptic Raids 04-14-2006 07:47 PM

StormWarrior \m/

Deth 04-14-2006 07:53 PM

I'm finding it really hard to find lesser known power metal bands than other genres.

NP: Obituary - Dying

Apocalyptic Raids 04-14-2006 07:58 PM

Obituary \m/

Yeah, I had trouble finding bands like StormWarrior also. Well... not so much StormWarrior, but I had to get Riva to send me some Hibria. Okay well they're not exactly Power Metal but ehh.

10th man down 04-14-2006 08:01 PM

Has anyone here heard a band from France called Heavenly?

Shattered_Future 04-14-2006 08:05 PM

I have one of their albums...

Decent band, but didn't strike me as anything special, aside from the large Rhapsody influence...

Stormrider 04-14-2006 08:08 PM

NP Nightwish - I Wish I had Angel

I really like this song. Especially the part where the guy is singing...and its upbeat. Catchy.

ExitWound 04-14-2006 09:43 PM

Indeed. I have Heavy Metal Fire by StormWarrior. I don't have their debut disc. i SOOO wanted the special edition release with the extra track (Featuring Kai!!) Heavy Metal Is the Law. I downloaded it, but haven't bought it, and since lost the mp3. They're close, but the vocals are very.... rough and yelly, unlike Michael Kiske and Kai.

Heavenly, also featuring Kai in some tracks, is very close too. BUt much like Freedom Call, they're.... boring. heh. I don't know how to describe it.

I looove Cryonic Temple's Blood, Guts, and Glory. The vocal lines are very simple though, giving the band a rather immature sound. Still, good stuff.

Still looking though for something a little more particular. Mmm. it's hard!

Wuthering Heights. I have not yet heard of them. I shall go listen!!

MetalStorm says this about Helloween:
Similar bands:
Blind Guardian
Gamma Ray
Wizard

Helloween fans also like:
Iron Maiden (145)
Blind Guardian (93)
Stratovarius (73)
Edguy (67)
Nightwish (64)
Wizard is AMAZING. I'm a huge Gamma Ray fan, and some BG (the older stuff), but not so much Stratovarious, Edguy or Nightwish. Though, Iron Savior is really sweet stuff. I should really look into getting more of their music.

My point is that I'm trying to find a lot of guitar work, flying double bass kicks, but not enough that it ends up sounding like DragonForce. I want fun lyrics, or serious lyrics, but the voice has to be melodic and sing songy, not growly or yelly. I'm very picky :) Nostradameus' older stuff fits the bill almost perfectly. And so does Dream Evil.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-14-2006 10:26 PM

get some Dungeon ExitWounds. A Rise To Power is fantastic.

10th man down 04-14-2006 10:33 PM

I have Resurrection, so awesome. I've only started getting into Dungeon but they're already one of my favorite bands!!! \m/

Apocalyptic Raids 04-14-2006 10:34 PM

\m/

You should really get A Rise To Power. It's even better than Resurrection.

Shattered_Future 04-14-2006 10:37 PM

Dream Evil is an excellent band...even though their lyrics are almost completely pointless and funny, they know how to have fun and manage to crank out some kickass music in the process.

I still haven't been able to pick up that super special edition of Resurrection. I gotta get that soon.

Riva 04-15-2006 01:11 AM

Dream Evil are such a great band, I'm glad the Niklas and Peter returned.

dUSK 04-15-2006 02:10 AM

Dream Evil are cool, from the two songs I've heard. I might look further into them tonight.

/goes to read Jason's FA.

Riva 04-15-2006 02:24 AM

Yeah, bow down to the true metal FA writer, bitches. :p

I'd say start with Evilized, Greg. The Book Of Heavy Metal's title song is their most catchy track, however.

dUSK 04-15-2006 02:52 AM

The two songs I already have are both from Evilized, and I enjoy them, so I will be starting with that. :)

Woot another cryonic temple fan:thumb:
NP Nightwish - I Wish I had Angel

if you like that song you should look into Tarot, it has Marco (nightwish bassist/vocalist) singing, it is pure awesome

am i the only one that hass notcied there has been a huge amount of pwermetal bands mentioned rather than the ones we normaly talk about?

Stormrider 04-15-2006 07:06 AM

Will do shadow_stalker. Thanks.

And my drummer friend mentioned me about Dream Evil and that he really liked them. Maybe its time I check them out.

NP Arch Enemy - Burning Angel

Riva 04-15-2006 07:16 AM

It's strange. I hate the vocals in Nightwish, because I think they ruin the music, but I love the vocals in Therion, because I think they complement the music.

Stormrider 04-15-2006 07:26 AM

Thats the only full Nightwish song I heard, so I don't really have an opinion on them yet.

NP Bathory - Twilight of the Gods (someone sent me an album yesterday)

Apocalyptic Raids 04-15-2006 07:34 AM

I got Once from the library a while ago.

Funnily enough, I only listened to it once. I think I deleted it.

dUSK 04-15-2006 08:06 AM

^ Heh, I have that on my laptop. I'm not even sure if I gave it an entire listen. I don't know why I still have it, as I never found it very interesting.

I just downloaded and listened to the Therion that Riva uploaded a couple of pages back. It's good stuff, particularly Future Consciousness. I'm going to have to pick up one of their albums when I have some extra cash to throw around.

Stoic 04-15-2006 11:12 AM
Future Consciousness
This song indeed rules (some particular riffs especially) although I'm not too keen on the production.

Jono, if you see Dargon on Soulseek ask him to recommend you bands similar to Walls of Jericho era Helloween. He loves Stormwarrior as well so he may know bands we dont.

shadow_stalker 04-15-2006 11:17 AM
It's strange. I hate the vocals in Nightwish, because I think they ruin the music, but I love the vocals in Therion, because I think they complement the music.
bah nightwish are awesome, although some of the earlier stuff Tarja goes abit over the top on this singing

NP - moondance - by nightwish (this song owns so much)

Steerpike 04-15-2006 11:19 AM
Wuthering Heights. I have not yet heard of them. I shall go listen!!
Definately go for the latest album. Without a doubt, their best.

I ruuule!!!

Shattered_Future 04-15-2006 12:33 PM

IIIIIIII RUUUUULLE!

Greatest songtitle ever.

Therion's vocalists are good, but they go COMPLETELY over the top sometimes, ie the first verse from An Arrow From The Sun after the distortion kicks in. That dude has the funniest voice ever...

Moondance I never really thought that good...one of the weaker tracks off of Oceanborn.

Iron Bars 04-15-2006 12:46 PM
Definately go for the latest album. Without a doubt, their best.
I hadn't even noticed they had released a new album. How does it compare to Far from the Maddening Crowd?

Stoic 04-15-2006 12:50 PM

new album for Wuthering Heights? How come its only the first time you've mentioned it Alex?
