It's the first BG song I've ever liked (along with Mystical Bard). It's just so fascinating, emotional and mystica and epic...Plus it has huge live value.

Deth 08-13-2006 07:10 PM

It's really good. In the Forest anyway, The Hobbit I don't find that great.

Shattered_Future 08-13-2006 09:13 PM

True, the live value is immense...I just never really "got" it. Or really any of BG's acoustic work, for that matter. It just sounds so...bland, almost.

Listen crowd I'll tell you everything
though I have to say I dont know much
talking about a past and future secret
most called him once and future king.

I'm possessed by the old creature
who had planned all to take my soul
Too late for me in my hands it lies I thought
But now he's in me
like nightfall, curse of feanor are amazing songs...i love into the storm, mirror mirror, and other parts of other songs, but the second half of the album is kinda like...meh for the most :-/

You're all untr00, that's your problem
I think I have to agree with Jammie, actually. I think the first half is much better than the second.

pate 08-14-2006 10:41 AM

I too agree.

This would be the YSI link for The Veil of Shadow. I don't know, I like the riffs, but I'm never very satisfied with the solo.

Nepenthe 08-14-2006 03:21 PM

I like the second half of NIME more. Actually, right near the middle is my favorite part.

Who here is familiar with Vhaldemar? Some real good Spanish power metal.

Tyr 08-14-2006 03:26 PM

I've heard about them, but I've never heard them. What do they sound like?

Nepenthe 08-14-2006 03:42 PM

They're nothing hugely innovative or anything, just good ol fast paced power metal. They have really cool gang vocals, and the guitarist is quite good. He reminds me alot of Paul Gilbert. They use some Flamenco here and there too, which is cool.

Tyr 08-14-2006 03:44 PM

Sounds pretty cool, I'll have to check them out.

Riva 08-14-2006 06:34 PM

I like the second half better than the first.

Funnily enough I like the interludes as much as the songs.

And speaking of accents, you have to love Carsten Frank. "Seacret signs from ze aozer wurld!"

pate 08-14-2006 06:35 PM

I don't like the interludes, except War of Wrath.

I like it a lot. If you were to do a full-fledged version of the song no doubt it would be great.

Needs more bass.

Figures a bassist would say that. Silly rhythm players, spotlights are for guitarists. :p

I think the most creative bass line I've written yet was my one foray into death metal.

Deth 08-14-2006 08:54 PM

Although if your guitarists names are Glen Tipton and KK Downing, I suppose that is true. Most other times I need a little bass presence in my music.

Toaster 08-14-2006 10:41 PM

I'm currently really liking Rhapsody's Symphony of Enchanted Lands. I used to listen to it just for laughs basically, but I'm actually enjoying the music quite a bit. Not sure what clicked.

Lord Abortion 08-15-2006 04:38 AM

Man, the live version of Speed of light on Stratovarius' Visions of Europe is flat out awesome.

YOU WANNA HAVE SOME SPEED?
Some speed of?

Some Speed of?

SPEED OF LIGHT!

Shadows Within 08-15-2006 10:06 AM

Yeah I love Strato (if its not obvious already)

but im really getting into Sonata Arctica what do they have any other songs like Wolf & Raven or Don't say a Word?

Stormrider 08-15-2006 11:23 AM

Dragonforce last night were awsome ! Got to touch everyband members hand after the show when tey passed in the front of the railings. I was almost in the front. They had a sweet setlist. I didn't know soem of the songs and didnt catch the titles. Either that or they didn't say it and just started playing heh.

Anyways, was really cool :)

Tyr 08-15-2006 04:05 PM

Must have missed it. Will listen now.

EDIT: I don't have GP on this computer, so I couldn't listen to your song. Sorry.
No one else? :(
I think it could be better speed up a little, but not a ton.

In the solo, the muted strings parts really broke up the flow, although it did create an interesting effect of the fast pulloffs starting on the two of each bar.

Those riffs are killer, as is the overall structure and placing of the vocals. :thumb:

I'll play around with the tempo a bit. I still need to work out a decent percussion track, though. That'll definately make a difference. I'll see what I can do about fixing the flow of the solo as well.

The riffs are a little bit of Iron Maiden and Iced Earth combined with Nekromantix. Whatever's on my playlist that week tends to reflect in my writing.

And yes, I'm very pleased with the vocal melody. Especially in the bridge.

Lord Abortion 08-15-2006 06:15 PM

One you get it in a format I can listen to, I'll give it a whirl.

Do you not have GuitarPro or are you a Mac user?

pate 08-15-2006 06:25 PM

GP is the greatest program in the history of programs.

Lord Abortion 08-15-2006 06:30 PM

I don't have Guitar Pro, because I do not, in fact play the guitar.
I really thought that due to this small, but nevertheless, significant point that such a program was rather unnecessary for a chap without the old guitar playing activities such as myself, to indulge in getting.

Perhaps. But for tabbing out songs and plotting out vocal melodies, it really helps. It has the midis for a whole range of instruments. Guitars, basses, percussion, synths, ethnic instruments...

Anyway, just pirate it.

Stormrider 08-15-2006 07:07 PM

oo, IE type riffs. I would check it out, but this computer doesn;t have Guitarpro. I'll wait 'till I get home and try to use a computer that does have it, the computer I use can't handle the program :-/

Deth 08-15-2006 08:15 PM

Get Guitar Pro you n00b.

I wish Dragonforce would come around here :(.

pate 08-15-2006 09:54 PM

GuitarPro is the greatest thing ever for composing.

MetalOz 08-16-2006 09:37 AM

Anyone listen to Tad Morose? I have one album and it's pretty good. I hear that their older stuff is more progressive, Dream Theater-ish. The album I have is power metal all the way. I also read that Joe Comeau is their new vocalist (ex-Annihilator, Liege Lord)

I don't play guitar either. Hell, I don't even play a melodic instrument, but that doesn't mean I can't write music! Haha.
GuitarPro owns.

EDIT: This is the ending of one my more recent songs. The song itself isn't power metal, but the ending/solo kind of is. Crit. is welcomed.

The harmonized leads have kind of a Judas Priest/Iron Maiden vibe, which I like. Nicely done.

Steerpike 08-19-2006 03:43 PM

Sorry for the double post, but this needed a bump. Besides, I just finished the second song for my Urban Arcana EP.

hxxp://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=32D66949175CE463

This one's an instrumental, and I'm really pleased with the riffs and the bassline.

I'm already working on lyrics for the third song, Shadow Chasers.

Deth 08-19-2006 04:42 PM

I really like that instrumental. Everything melds really well. It's not your fault obviously, but the guitar tone in Guitar Pro was a bit biting.

Fantastic song though.

Shattered_Future 08-19-2006 05:16 PM

Can't access it. My computer can't run GP.
